So I got God of War lately, and I'm having a blast.

The only problem is that lines will sync through the TV... almost like when you're playing a game on the PC, and the screen has to refresh itself so you see the slight stutter on the screen.

Did anyone else who played this have this problem? I'm thinking my copy might be messed up, but if it's a common thing I'll just have to learn to deal with it.

I mean, no review I read for the game ever mentioned this, and it happens frequently enough and it's a big pain in the eyes.

I have the game. Can't say I've ever experienced what you describe. I played it on the slim line pstwo; maybe its a problem with older ps2 models. I've heard about a lot of people having the game freeze up on them during the last boss fight who were playing on older ps2s.

Yea, it dosen't freeze, but it constantly refreshes itself and it causes the screen to stutter and split for a split second.

I have an older ps2 model, and it would be a real shame if that was the cause since this is the first game out of about 100 ps2 games to cause a genuine problem. The constant refreshing gives me a huge headache, and there's no V-Sync option on the ps2 to make it go away =/

Found this in the IGN mailbag that "God of War has some v-sync (vertical synchronization) issues..." Kind of weird none of the reviews have mentioned this. I guess I just have sensitive eyes that pick up on this shit.

Try it on a new PS2. I never had any of those problems.

Are you running it in Progressive Scan?
I played through it on a slim PS2 on a HDTV and I noticed a slight hiccup every so often, but only in 480p and 16x9

Tried on two different ps2's, with two different sets of cables and two different TV's... still notice it big time, even my friend noticed it.

I'm thinking I got a bum copy, and I'm going to take it back to the store to get a new one tommorrow.

Will do.

I also posted the message up on GameFAQ's, and it seems like I'm an isolated incidence, so I'll let everyone know how the new copy works tommorrow morning.

I've noticed the same problem with mine. It's not a constant thing, but I notice it often enough that it kind of bugs me. I've got an older-model PS2 running through a regular t.v. with S-Video cables.

Yup, that's what I got.

Older-model PS2 running through regular t.v with S-Video, then I went and tried it on my friend's PS2 running through regular composite cables... same thing.

It's really kind of aggravating... I'm hoping some crap copies went out and I just got a bad one.

I've only noticed that once on my PStwo during my play through. Also noticed a 5 second load when I was rounding the corner into a monster filled room. Outside of that, GoW is the only game that I've had 'issues' with on my PStwo...

I have an old PS2 but with a new drive. I run it through a standard TV using Component cables and haven't had the issue you described. Made it through 75% of the game so far an no freezes or refresh issues.

Yea I got the loading also.

Not sure why it happens to some people but not others.

I got the new copy from TRU, I've yet to try it... going to wipe my save, and start fresh, and report back here tommorrow sometime and see how it went.

wow I thought I was the only one I thought it was my game and TV. I have it hooked up with component running 480p and widescreen. It happened a couple of times but it didnt bother me as much .

I've just got sensitive eyes when it comes to these things... after awhile, it will give me a killer headache.

On the PC, I can just turn V-Sync on, which elimanates the problem... no such luck here.

I'm hoping it's copy specific, since everyone else I know who played this game never experienced this at all. It was noticable enough that a friend (who had never seen the game before) even said "wow, the screen tears really bad" without me pointing it out.

The game had a shitload of tearing if that is what you mean.

Yep, great game. Lots of tearing or refreshing. But didn't take alot from it for me.
