This thread is for games you saw but you never got to try. Ask other gamers what it was like and if it's worth it to find a copy and play.

My personal list:

Valis series (Genesis)
Sub Terrania (Genesis)
Red Zone (Genesis)
Bastard (Super Famicom)

I'm sure most people here would disapprove but I can play every old school game I've ever heard of. gens snes9x NESten etc. I think I played bastard just because I liked the name.

I never had a chance with Chrono Trigger either. I remember I always wanted to try Sub Terrania also.

I spent about 20 minutes with Sub Terrania the last time I had my Genesis hooked up. I liked the concept of the game, but the controls were frustrating. If you can find it at a Gamecrazy it should only be a buck, and it's worth that.

I have quite a bit of stuff I still want to get around to. Too many to list them all, but here's what really stands out. All of this stuff is in my collection so I know I will eventually.

Genesis:
Comix Zone
Dynamite Headdy
Golden Axe I & II
Gunstar Heroes
Mercs
Outrun
Thunder Force II

SNES:
Blackthorne
Contra III
Earthbound
Earthworm Jim
Kirby Super Star
The Legend Of The Mystical Ninja
Prehistorik Man
Robotrek
Soldiers Of Fortune
TMNT IV: Turtles In Time
Ys III: Wanderers From Ys

N64:
Banjo-Kazooie
Blast Corps
Donkey Kong 64
Doom 64
Harvest Moon 64
Paper Mario
Perfect Dark
Ridge Racer 64
Yoshi's Story

PlayStation:
Ape Escape
Spyro 1-3
Tomb Raider 1 and 2

Game Boy:
The Castlevania Adventure
Metroid II
TMNT: Fall Of The Foot Clan

Game Boy Color:

Klona, Sin and Punishment, Kirby's Superstar, Final Fantasy V, and Panzer Dragoon (any)

I have a PSX/PS2, SNES, and Saturn to play these games, i'm just too busy playing newer games to try them out. I might pick up Kirby the next time I pull out the SNES.

I agree.. i'd like to try the Japanese intensive titles.. but then again.. i've played some really terrible Jap games so it'd be a hit or miss either way..

I've always wanted to try Incredible Crisis for the PS1, I saw the case once and it looked pretty crazy. Anyone ever try that one out? I also wanted to play no one can stop Mr. Domino for the PS1 but never got to...

I've always wanted to get into Shadowgate and The Immortal for NES. I've played both a very little. Those games always looked very cool but had a crazy learning curve.

Both are awesome games. Especially if you like the whacky Japanese humor (incredible Crisis).

The Immortal was extremely original at the time IMO (and actually it's still pretty unique) but it is frickin HARD without any guide or faq.

You should be able to get through Shadowgate just by trying everything possible.

Played Red Zone and Sub Terrania on Sega Channel back in the day. Both are pretty good, and at least one of them (can't remember which) can be found in Evansville, IN (if there are any Evansville area CAGs interested in these titles).
Had Valis III, but I have no idea what happened to it. I probably traded it in a long time ago.

Axelay - SNES shooter
Crusaders of Centy - Genesis RPG
Gargoyle's Quest - Original Game Boy action game
Gunstar Heroes - yeah, I know this is a must-play
Kid Icarus - classic NES side-scroller
Shining Force CD - I own this, but haven't found my SCD AC adaptor since buying
Space Megaforce - SNES shooter, sequel to TG-16's Blazing Lazers
Y's Book 1 & 2 - TG-16 CD RPG

Hogs of War is very underrated. It's a cool turn-based tactical game, kind of like Worms in 3D. It's pretty tough to find in NTSC, though. If that interests you, Future Tactics for current-gen is relatively decent and similar too, and is going for < $10 on Ebay.

Of course, I love Parappa. I have all the Japanese soundtracks to Parappa 1, 2, and Lammy (and Gitaroo Man).

Just as reference, Future Tactics is going for about $10, if not less, at Best Buy as well

My problem is having tons of games I've gotten for wonderfully low prices but not getting around to playing the games as much as they deserve. If I wasn't so attracted to the game of bargain hunting I might have gotten more playing done for less money.

I had high hopes for Sub-Terrania to more resemble a Atari ST/Mac game I'd really liked called Oids but I found the gameplay frustrating.

I expected to like the Valis games but didn't enjoy them much in practice. The learning curve was a bit too steep before the slightest mistake got you killed.

For 'The Immortal' I'd recommend the Genesis version as having better features but it may only work on an early Genesis due to it being one of those early EA games from the time when EA felt they were above royalties.

SNES:

Contra III
Earthbound
Earthworm Jim
Kirby Super Star
The Legend Of The Mystical Ninja
Prehistorik Man
Robotrek
Soldiers Of Fortune
TMNT IV: Turtles In Time
Ys III: Wanderers From Ys

N64:
Banjo-Kazooie
Blast Corps
Donkey Kong 64
Doom 64
Harvest Moon 64
Paper Mario
Perfect Dark
Ridge Racer 64
Yoshi's Story

PlayStation:
Ape Escape
Spyro 1-3
Tomb Raider 1 and 2

Game Boy:
The Castlevania Adventure
Metroid II
TMNT: Fall Of The Foot Clan

Game Boy Color:
Zelda: Link's Awakening DX

I'll try to be brief with my comments.

Genesis:
Comix Zone - Well-done beat-em-up
Gunstar Heroes - Best side-scrolling shooter for the Genesis. Nice weapon upgrade system.
Mercs - Cool overhead vertical shooter, similar to Commando for NES, but much better. Really underrated IMHO.
Thunder Force II - Overhead free-roaming shooter. Not as good as TF III, but solid nonetheless.

SNES:
Contra III - great shooter with nicely done Mode7 effects.
Earthbound - quirky but surprisingly deep RPG. 2nd only to Chrono Trigger for SNES RPGs in my mind.
TMNT IV: Turtles In Time - fun beat-em-up

N64:
Blast Corps - challenging, even to the point of frustration at times, but satisfying when you complete the mission

Game Boy:
Metroid II - probably the worst out of the Metroid series. Not as much adventuring to do as in the other games. Still worth playing, especially if you want the complete Metroid experience. If not, the intro for Super Metroid will give you all the information you need from the story.

Game Boy Color:
Zelda: Link's Awakening DX - the DX version added 1 more dungeon and color effects to the already excellent Link's Awakening. Similar in style to a Link to the Past, which is my favorite Zelda game.

Being a Nintendo devotee, I've missed out on the majority of games in the libraries of Sega's Master System and Genesis and Sony's PlayStations 1 and 2. I didn't get a Genesis or PS1 until long after release, I've never owned a Master System or PS2, and the only system from those companies that I got during their normal life cycles (this one at launch on 9/9/99) was Sega's Dreamcast.

That was a really fun game.

I'm playing all my old N64 and PS1 games now just because I have had them for as much as 7 years and I'm tired of them sitting around and not getting played.

Yeah im pretty blown away by it, i got it for $25 and i feel i got a good value. You cant go wrong with a fantastic game for cheaper than a gba game. Illusion of gaia only cost me like 4 bucks which is awesome because the store i bought evermore in had it for 30!

Hellraiser for NES. ;)

Of course it was cancelled, but it's legend was huge. It was going to be the first 3-D (Wolfenstein-esque 3-D) NES game and it was going to have it's own hardware inside of the cartridge in order for the NES to run it.

It would have been epic... even though Clive Barker is a hack. :O
