View Full Version : How to play a Gamcube on a Dell LCD monitor?
I have a dell LCD monitor 1703FP. I'm wondering what it would take to use a console with the screen? I notice a lot of people mention the vdigi switch box as a good solution. I don't have a need for HDTV or anything else just a simple solution to switch back and forth between my PC and the console.

I think you need a VGA adaptor something that will go from composite to Vga. Since you have an LCD the plug is a DVI cable did it come with an adaptor to connect to regular analog CRT monitors ?
then again you could get the Vdigi , the 480p looks awesome on most gamecube games .

The Video Quality on those vga boxes arent too great IMO. It might be a bit extreme, but I would suggest getting some sort of cheap PC TV card with the proper inputs or get an ATI All in wonder the next time you upgrade your video card.

HMm I cant seem to find anything with composite to VGA on google I dunno if that was ever made . What you might want to do it look into getting a Gamecube S-video wire that way you could get a VGA adaptor that supports S-video .
This wouldn't be good? www.vdigi.com

Buy one of these:
http://www.lan-kwei.com/customcableE/
http://www.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/gc/vgacable.htm
Or you can make it yourself with one of these (gamecube component cable or dvi cable):

I haven't ordered from goldenshop, but I have ordered from lan-kwei many times in the past with no problems. Any other solution is either overpriced (>$100 because you will need to buy BOTH the component cable and the converter) or crappy quality.
Well I would need these as well right?

What if I wanted to hook up my PS2? Can I take advantage of High Def? Does the PS2 do only 480p or something higher?

These look like a good solution but I need to be able to switch back and forth from my PC to my Gamcube without constantly changing cables....that is why I considered the vdigi.

If you have a pic that would rock. Do you use the component cables? What does it run in? 480p?

Ya know, for the same amount of money you spend on that VGA adpater, you could buy an HDTV (see wal-mart). So, just buy an HDTV and use the Cube's component cables.

There's a cable by a company called Aheadgames that is designed for this exact purpose:

Here's a link for a review by Planetgamecube: http://www.planetgamecube.com/reviews.cfm?action=hwprofile&id=403
It's $50 and it will get the job done. Of course it will be limited to working with the GC only, so if you want to use a VGA box for other systems...well, it's something to consider.

You need one of those if you use a converter like vdigi or viewsonic, but not if you get the vga cable (which is actually a modified one of those).
The PS2 will be a little more tricky because most games do not support 480p (only 480i). The PS2 will require a very expensive upscanner like the XRGB-2.

Oh yeah I forgot about that one. It's the same thing as those Hong Kong ones I posted (they are all modified gamecube component cables).
Also, everyone should keep in mind that these cables only work with gamecube games that support progressive scan. Most games do, but there are some that don't (ex: Super Moneky Ball 1 and Tales of Symphonia).

I'm interested in these DVI cables

Anyone ever use these? And do these output a better picture than component?

Here's the movie of VJ 2 on my monitor. It's 3g2 format so I'll work on a wma or avi format.

It is exactly the same thing as component, just a different shape plug.
