Tiph has yet another question for the CAG geniuses-

With our tech lab cleaning out all of its old hardware, I managed to snag a Western Digital 7.5G hard drive for personal use. Now, it has Win2000 and quite a lot of other school-related information on it. To actually log in, you need to be connected ot the network, which I cannot at my house. I can't format the thing at school either because all run/important commands are blocked from student use. When it starts up, I can access the setup/bios page, and I was wondering if I can reformat the HD through these commands.

if you have a boot diskette you can just use that and boot to DOS, then format :)

Just download a program called active@killdisk and wipe it clean, then start over from scratch and do what you want with it.

What's wrong with attaching it as a secondary hard drive, loading windows from his main hard drive, and formatting from there? He could still use killdisk or whatever formatting method he wants.

Because, to prevent theft, it can only be used when connected to the network.
