Buying a Used DS?

I usually have no problem buying used items whether it be consoles or games, but with the DS, I'm worried about purchasing a DS that has lost some sensitivity on the touch screen. Are there any opinions on the matter? Should I go used so I can afford an extra game or should I get a new one to be safe?

a used one shouldnt be too bad unless it was owned by a 5 year old... the only ones ive seen have trouble are the store displays. if you plan on getting one from ebay there is a little more risk than getting one at gamestop because you could always return the one to gamestop. but really the screens are quite durable, and are great especially if you calibrate them often

I've never heard about calibrating the screen. Is it easy to do? If you could, please explain...

There's a sort of system menu when you first start up the DS. One of the options on the menu allows you to calibrate the touch screen by touching little dots - just ensures that when you use the stylus on the screen, the graphics are matching up to the screen's touch sensor.
That said: caveat emptor. I got a DS on eBay - I was promised that the touch screen was scratch free, and it arrived with quite a few minor nicks on the touch screen. You can only see them under direct sunlight, but it's still a pain. Luckily, the system came with an EB Games warranty, but... if it's used, be extra careful.

are there any screen replacements (like with the orignal GBA) that you can perform on used DS's? (i say this because the pawn shop has one with a scratch on the screen but its a damn good price if all i have to do is do a little screen replacing)

I think you should ask them if you can test out the touch screen. If it has no problems, then just get a screen protector on it and all should be well.

I personally HATE used hardware, so I would never get a used system, especially DS since it has a good chance that it's not 100% mint when it arrives at my door.

The DS, perhaps more than any other recent piece of hardware, I would reccomend you get new if at all possible, unless you can test out the actual one you're getting first. You never know how someone treated the touch screen...and the touch screen is what the DS is all about.

No - there's not really an easy way to replace the touch screen other than sending it to Nintendo and paying $60. So says their technical support, at least.
