Actually, I've been subbed [for free] to Working Mother for about a year now. I'm male, but it does have some interesting/informative articles in it, and my wife occasionally reads it [also we both work and we have a 15 month old, so I guess we're the target demographic.]
Pretty much any magazine I can get for free, I will get [for some reason I just started getting Seventeen]. If I don't read it, or after I read it, I'll take it to my break room at work and share the wealth [we have 250+ people in my office, *someone's* gotta like every magazine I bring in.]
I have gotten many magazines from Freebizmags.

Here's a little help in searching for free magazines. First, you whip up Google. Then, you type in something like "free subscription" while making sure that the phrase you're searching for is enclosed in quotation marks. That groups the words so that when you search for them, they must be written together in the page for it to be displayed. If you don't mind some poor results, you could just type in the word free.

But wait! Don't hit enter or click search just yet. After the first part, you type in site:(the site that you want to search). Put in whatever source that gives out free magazines right next to the site: without parentheses. You'll probably get a fair amount of expired offers, but you at least won't have to wait for somebody else to list the links.

If you can't find what you're looking for, try this tip with the actual magazine's site as well.

And who said it had to be magazines that you search for? Try out other free stuff at places that don't dish out just magazines. Even at magazine sites, I've seen free VHS tapes and shirts being offered.

Hopefully this helps. If something like this post has been posted here already, my apologies. I just figure that this would be something worthwhile to waste my first post at this site on.

That 6-8 weeks thing isnt engraved in stone. Others including myself had to wait more than the 6-8 weeks timeline. I guess it's because more people want those subs so it takes a while.

On a seperate note, I have subscribed to things like this before where they send you a bill, and I just didn't answer for a while, so they decided to get a bill collection company to prosecute me. ](*,) It would be a good idea to cancel your subscription before it comes to that because it took a lot of talking to get out of that.

Well after all this bad news about these EGM bills you all are getting...just wanted to report I got my first issue of PSM today, after signing up for it around 4 weeks ago I believe. Coolness.

I am fairly sure that if you do not give your credit card to any company and they start sending you magazines and demand you pay them for a subscription you don’t have to do jack sh*t.

Let me further explain, according to every law I have ever heard and every thing I have ever heard from people if you get sent things in the mail they are yours, you do not have to pay for them. I believe it is so that companies don’t send you items in the mail demanding you either return the items or pay them money. We would be constantly harassed otherwise.

If a company sends you a few free magazines and demands money I say just throw out the notices. If they do not have your credit card number they can not do anything. If it is worth the effort you could bother trying to get them to honor the free subscription but that will take a lot of time and effort on your part I believe. I think you should just count yourself lucky that you got a magazine or two free and don’t give up on the free magazine subscriptions. Eventually you will find one that works. Don’t bother trying to cancel your order or anything that requires effort on your part. The ball is defiantly in their court.

i went to the EGM site. it told me i owe $19. I clicked to cancel my subscription, and it still says i owe $19.. hopefully this changes.. since i havent received any issues anyways.. also i sent them a message saying that i signed up for the free 12 issues offer, and was billed and that i would like to cancel the subscription if i will not be receiving the free offer. This has been too much hassle considering i dont even like EGM that much..

Well heres my "furter" information, ANYONE can sign you up for magazines online or with those little cards you get from magazines. According to supernothing I could find his/hers address and send them tons of subscriptions to magazines they did not ask for. The magazine companies know nothing about you except your name and address, now really is anyone ignorant or stupid enough to belive that that is enough to effect your credit report. Can you imagine what teh magazine companies are going to say "er yah this person signed up for a free issue of our magazine then didn't want to subscribe, now we want to damage their credit." The idea that anyone could belive that is mind boggling.

What he meant was, that he signed up for a "two free issues of Gamepro"
It's one of those things where after you get your two free issues, they will send you a bill and you just have to cancel it and mail it back. But he forgot to do so. So they just kept giving him more issues and soon, he was billed and owed money for the magazines. After a year, he signed up for a free subscription for Gamepro and now, they forgot about the money he owed and they treat him just like other customers.

Yeah, the problem is sometimes they don't even bother to listen those cancellation notices. I remember one time I got a free issue of PC Gamer, thinking I'd cancel after the free issue came. Well they sent the first notice before the magazine even arrived, so I ignored that one. Then they sent me another one, which I sent back. Next month they sent me another magazine and another notice. I sent the notice back, but the next month it was another magazine and another notice. Finally I just ignored the notices and let them send me as many free magazines as they wanted, which I think ended up being about 5 or 6. A few years later I decided to get a subscription to PC Gamer for real (and pay with real money! :shock: ) and they didn't appear to have any hard feelings about it.

The moral of the story? Just throw those cancelation notices away, because all those magazine companies can do to you if you don't pay is stop sending you the magazine.

I'm really confused as to why some people have to pay, and some don't , even though they signed up at the same offer. My only thoughts are that there were limited free copies, and they didn't mention it. I signed up the same day it was offered, so it may be possible. We might be getting the screwed up issues, because mine looks like a Rottweiller mauled it, but none of the pages are missing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to come up with ideas.

lol...first off this is a very minor problem and nothing to be worried about...you can not get in trouble for signing up for these free mags...when you sign up for these things it is important to read all of the rules and to print out the page where you signed up for just incase this happens as it is evidence that you signed up for a free SUBSCRIPTION...second of all if a company decides to send you mags before you pay for them then that is their fault...never give a service or good until you receive payment for it...a company cant just send you mags and force you to pay for them...lol...there are laws against that otherwise every mag company would send you mags just to force you to pay for them whether you like it or not

if you get a bill just throw it away...nothing will happen...unless they have actual evidence that you asked for the mag...like if you called them...they have no case whatsoever if you applied online...anyone can sign you up because they do not ask for any specific information like a credit card or ss# that only you should know...thus if they try to force you to pay just say that you didnt sign up for it and you have no evidence that i did...second of all they should not send you the mags until you paid for them...also when you sign up for these mags dont use your real name...make up one...then who are they going to bring to trial "Ivanna Twinkle" i think not....lol...dont worry about this whoever said that you will get in trouble is a naive person who has no clue what they are talking about

not trying to sound like a jerk but why are you complaining about how you didnt get any of your FREE mags yet?!?!?!...you should be happy that you are getting them for free...boo hoo that it is taking longer than 6-8 weeks but dont forget that they take care of their real customers first and not us free subscribers....usually it takes 6-8 weeks but with everyone ordering the mag they are probably limiting how many orders they will accept now...also with all of the orders they are going to take longer than usual...so i wouldnt hold my breath if i was you

as you saw befora with cracka...if they think you are going to pay for the mag it only takes a 3-4 weeks for it to come because you are a customer but when you are trying to get the mag for free it takes much much longer...hell it may never come but dont cry foul when you are trying to get it for free so just suck it up and wait for it and if it doesnt come, sign up again and maybe you will get lucky...just be glad that they arent trying to stiff you with a bill like some others on this board...they have a right to complain about how they signed up for something for free and the mag is trying to stiff them with a bill...but dont complain that it is taking longer than 6-8 weeks...it can take as long as 3-4 months for it to come but what else do you expect??who would you rather help someone who pays you or someone who wants it for free??? it will come grasshopper so just be patient

now i didnt say you were flooding the boards but this same message is flooding the topic like a broken record...i cant count how many come here and complain about how the mag is taking longer than 6-8 weeks...unfortunately you can not do anything but wait so you might as well not complain...if you want the mag so bad you should just pay for it..then you will get the mag sooner and on time...many free mags never arrive on the month they are suppose too...i sometimes got the magazine a week or two later than everyboyd else that paid for it...i cant stand people crying about how their FREE mag isnt here yet...i am sorry but if you read this topic as much as i do, you too would get annoyed about this same post...the only posts should be on deals about mags, questions, or problems...not complaints like about how long it is taking or anything like that...people should be glad that they got this deals

if you want to know when your mags will come then look at previous posts...some state how you can go to the mag website and look up your account which should tell you when it starts and ends...this will give you an idea when the first mag will arrive

I have already checked the website before I posted my original post so I could see if I maybe did something wrong or if it had happend to anyone and obviously it has as bmac1632 posted saying he hasn't received some magazines. I was also wondering if you get a confirmation e-mail saying you did feel out that information. I am asking this because on websites that send you those confirmation emails (like here to register) I won't get one sometimes. Even when I originally registered here back in around Sept. I didnt get one and about 2 months later I e-mailed CheapyD and he manually let me in (good guy some owners just don't really care so I'm SOL). I can't agree with you on the paid service though because I am a paid subscriber to 3 magazines (Gameinformer, GMR, and OXM) and only 1 comes in when it's suppose to. OXM I normally get 2-3 weeks later than people on message boards have posted saying they have theirs and I have been a paid subriber for months and months. Another thing is why hang around this message board if you aren't going to help and just complain yourself about how you hate people that ask questions. I hang quite a few message boards myself and I kind of find it annoying also myself when people post the same questions, but I find it easier to answer the questions and let them be on their way then whine around on a message board, if you don't like it go somewhere else.

only certain sites that offer free mags will send you an email like complimentary magazines.com...if you are having problems with receiving emails than maybe it is time to get a new email address...if you pay for a magazine and it arrives late regularly than you should call up the magazine and complain...i did and got a free 6 month extension

Yeah, you can check on the website. Just go to www.psmonline.com and look for the customer service button. It will link you to different actions. You can check your account status and what not but it might take a sec. to find you in the database. You can email them if you notice any discrepancies...

something that I signed up for that was free is sending me stuff in the mail saying that I need to pay them. I got so much free stuff latley that I dont even know what it was from. Its only 2.50 that they want but still, they might want more again. I dont know what to do.

Sometimes places will offer a free trial (or free magazine issue) and then charge you if you don't cancel. If that's the case, write CANCEL in big letters on the invoice and mail it back to them.

Read the fine print--
what you're looking for is something saying 'Your subscription is provided by a sponsor' or something like that.
If they're going to bill you, it should say something like '4 free issues, just write CANCEL on the bill if you're not satisfied.' And that works.
Obviously don't give them a credit card number. If there's a selection for 'bill me,' then it's not paid for by a sponsor.
You WILL, regardless, eventually get renewal notices. That's fine, you can either re-sub or let it lapse.

I used to get those all the time back in the day. They send you a SASE to send back the payment right? Well just cross off the form and write in big letters: "I ONLY GOT ONE ISSUE, I WANT TO CANCEL, STOP BILLING ME". That worked for me.

It might be even easier now as you can just e-mail or call them tellin them your situation.

Just one of the many differences in the genders...I've heard my (female) friends say things like, "Oh, she's hot" and actually mean it. We're wired differently - it's a fact of life.

You can get a year's subscription for 3 of the following mags: Budget Living, Time, PC Magazine, TV Guide, Prevention, Men's Journal, Food and Wine, Lifetime Magazine, The Sporting News, Organic Style, Computer Shopper, Business 2.0, Parents, Essence, Fast Company, YM, and Electronic Gaming Monthly.

They say that they will charge a $2 processing fee per magazine. Sounds a little wierd, i've never heard of a processing fee for magazines. You will be forced to submit credit card info i think.
Yep, I've done it. What happens is they put a 2$ processing fee through, and you have a subscription for a year for however many mags you selected. After that year runs up, if you do not cancel, they will bill your card. However, if, say, you ordered in March, you can cancel in February and will not be billed.

If you got a bill for a 'free' mag, just write 'Please cancel' on it and send it back. If they send you a bill, and you don't dispute it, I think it can become a legimitate bill, and they can hunt you down. I also think if you're under 18, in many states, you can't be a party to a contract, so they have nothing on you [note: I am not a lawyer.]
My wife occasionally reads the FHM, Maxim, Stuff mags; they're a little trashy for her to really enjoy them, but there are some funny bits and every now and then an actual article. Now, Playboy, if I don't get that one first, I can't have it until she's finished with it.
And for some reason, I'm also getting YM and Seventeen. The good news is, I gave my brother a free sub to them also :) He didn't appreciate it all that much. I'm not sure why i signed up for them, except that they were free. I do flip through it, then I bring a bunch of the free magazines that I don't want to keep to work and drop them in the breakroom [we have 300+ in the office, someone's got to be interested in any of them.]

I see some people listing what mags they get free.
Okay, I'll bite--here's what I'm getting, that I can think of offhand.
Maxim, Stuff, FHM [till 2008 and 2010 respectively.] TV Guide. PSM. EGM. PC Magazine. Maximum PC. Ladies Home Journal. Nascar Thunder. Barron's. Sporting News. Working Mother. YM. Seventeen. Child. American Baby. Life Extension. Charisma. Computer Gaming World. Gamepro. New York Observer. Potentials. PC Gamer. Forbes. Money. Electronic House. Better Homes and Gardens. The Week [this is actually one of my favorites]. Cruise Travel. Lego Magazine. Wine Enthusiast. Budget Living. Fast Company. Blender. Communications News. PC Photo Pro. Outdoor Photography. Cargo. Interview. I know there's a few more, but that's all I can think of right now.

If you can deal with 'cheap' instead of 'free', there's always magazine subscriptions going for real cheap on Ebay. Obviously check feedback and compare for prices, but for instance, someone is selling a 4 year sub to The Week for 9.99, when the best I've seen [other than free] is thru the mag itself, 20 bucks a year.
