I never got any DVD's from freebiz, but they do got a bunch of spam coming because of them.

Yeah, the only thing they ever give are the magazines. None of the DVD's ever. I signed up to DVD's like Mystic River, Kill Bill Vol. 2... but yeah, they do say that only the first 150 people DO get them.

I signed up to stuff/maxim 2 months ago... still didn't get it. Oh well guess I won't get it...

I signed two months ago too for the 4 years subs for both and I just starting getting stuff. Just check the magazine database to make sure you are in it. Then send customer service an email about missing issues. That usually fixes it.

Well in the Maxim database check, they ask for your email address and I believe that they didn't ask me to input an email address for the free 4yr subs to Maxim/Stuff. Well guess I'll just continue to wait and keep my hopes up.

I've heard that some people have. But it's only 150 people....imagine how quick they most go. Also, most people get the DVD months and months after it was offered. But they DO make good on them. I have received MANY free magazines over the years. I think I have Maxim and Stuff till like 2011 right now :)

Yeah, I've gotten the mags. I just wondered if the DVDs were actually legit or another way to entice you into their site. I will definitely keep taking the mags though :D ...

My slavish devotion to this thread has been paying off: I do add to the listings when I can but also big THANKS to CAG!

My EGM runs until 2011  (I bought 3 years on ebay for $4 . . . the rest from multiple offers????)
XBN runs into 2007 (I did pay $4 for 1 year early this year)
Comp Shopper started
Tips and Tricks started (freebizmag)
PSM
Gamepro says 2006 . . . only remember one offer???
Computer Gaming Monthly 1 year
Computer Games 1 year

I get 2 electronics mags
Electronic House
highdef (new)

I'm getting PC Magazine digital . . . I need to call and switch it but I've been lazy

Then there are numerous mags for my wife . . . or stuff like Forbes or Sporting News

BTW if you are looking to buy subs, try searching for deals on:
http://www.magazinepricesearch.com/index.html

beerguy961
08-29-2004, 06:11 PM
I'm getting a lot of mags now for free...

Game Informer - Runs to January or so (I did spend $10 at Gamestop to get a discount card, but I'll spend more than $100 on used games with it, so it'll pay for itself)
EGM - Must switch to print, but for some reason I did get two issues in the mail before
XBN - I don't even have an XBox
Computer Shopper
PC Magazine
Gamepro
Computer Gaming Monthly
Sporting News
FHM

Plus, Maxim and Stuff should be coming, and if I get Forbes, I'll have them send it to my brother or my dad (under my name, but I'm 18, so what am I gonna do with Forbes?) And possibly Popular Science. That's a baker's dozen!

dangit moxio.... got in trouble with wife again (of course I said "I got a FREE subscription to SHAPE for you) she didn't like the FOR YOU part.

Man, you gotta be careful with your words. That's like buying a treadmill and giving it to your wife as a Christmas gift. Except you aren't paying for it. So you're saving her money, in which case she should shower you with gifts... Ah, in a perfect world maybe...

Trillian
08-31-2004, 09:48 AM
:D A woman can believe she's fat and say she is if she wants to, but if a man even implies that she might be right (whether its by getting her a treadmill for Christmas or if it's getting her a subscription to a fitness magazine just 'cause its free), then it's seen as the man being an insensitive jerk. It's the same rule that makes any guy who acknowledges a woman's period a jerk. (We're talking in the 'Are you grumpy because it's time for your period?'-type way here.) Sometimes it's best just to give a woman a hug and tell her you'd never notice anything different because you're still so in love with her.

Now if only my husband did that...

Oh yeah, I like Game Informer too . . . you can get 12 issues for about $5 through www.magazinepricesearch.com

I cut it close, but my 1 year sub just started and my old 10 issue $10 one was ending . . . I NEVER used the 10% off at Gamestop anyway.

I like GI and especially compare and contrast it with EGM. Since I'm getting so many free . . . I don't mind paying for some.

It just seems some of these ebay are too good to be true

Year of mags for 2.99 i mean come on 2.99

they had nintendo for 8 bucks

they had i think gamepro or egm 4 years for 20 bucks i think these r too good to be true

i would buy them but i would hate to spend 50 bucks on 8 different mags to see 6 months from now that the person cancelled my sub and i got nothing

schultzed
09-07-2004, 12:25 PM
I've had good luck with ebay vendors and other online options for mags.

I got Game Informer (I've never seen it for free) for $6/year its $10 for 10 issues in store. It started right on time.

Bought 4 years of EGM (sub was running out and the freebies weren't around in Feb.) for $4 . . . now my sub with free ones runs into 2010

Gotten a few for my wife like Shape, Parents . . . stuff like that for about $4-5 for 3 years . . . I don't see how they can cancel the order later . . . but every mag I've ordered has come.

The deals are so good (must be freebies that people know how to pass on) that even if they got cancelled after 6 months you'd still get decent value. My wife order "Garden Design" for $5 for 4 years . . . that has been coming for 2 years now and it is over $20/year from the publisher.

We used to buy mags at the grocery store . . . look at the price of one mag! $4-10 for 3 years is a good gamble for most mags.

dtcarson
09-07-2004, 12:51 PM
Check out the 'handling' costs on those Ebay auctions; I've seen some that have an awesome BIN price, but then add 4-10 bucks 'handling' in the shipping slot. It is still a lot better price than buying on the newsstand, but I avoid auctions with ridiculous s/h charges just on principle.
Just found one that offers 1 year of The Week plus a 'Free Bonus' of 1 year of another magazine for 7.99 incl s/h. that's pretty good.
But it boggles my mind how people can pay cover price for a magazine. If you buy two a year, in general, you'll do better off getting a subscription.

Generally if you sign up for a subscription, and you already have one, if you use the same name/address on both, they'll combine them. If they don't, you can call/write/logon, tell them you're getting dupes, and they'll combine them.

We used to buy mags at the grocery store . . . look at the price of one mag! $4-10 for 3 years is a good gamble for most mags.

i asked on one time and they said if they buy 1000 subs at one time they get a great deal and can sell them that cheap.

another person said these companies just give them away free so it looks like more people are buying the book then they are so they can get more ad money

I bought a few off of ebay a year or so ago. Every mag came with the amount of years it said it would. My advice is just like if you buy anything else off of Ebay is Feedback is an Ebayers friend.

Well gamepro is the worst of the worst, but often there are free egm subscriptions. EGM is definitely one of the better gaming mags.

Yeah Gamepro is not really that good. But they usually have a lot of coupons moreso than EGM.

I remember getting coupons for Hollywood Video, Best Buy, Target, etc.

Are you kidding me? Gamepro is a piece of crap compared to GameInformer. The writing is simply terrible. GI may be off on a few reviews, but Gamepro's crappy writing (in terms of everything) make it a joke...

If it's sent like a regular mag, with an address label, it should have your expiration date on it.

IMO Game Informer is the best magazine out there, especially for the price. Gamepro isn't nearly as good.

Damn it! I've just wasted 15 minutes writing this . . . back to work!

Gameinformer is definitely at the top right now . . . totally surprised me when I picked it up in 2001, because I remembered when it really was just a leaflet in the early 1990s. Lately they have had a great cover article each issue with amazing depth on some games. I think their reviews are among the best (consistently, GAMESPOT.COM is tops in my mind). Also with GI you get a few pages on classic games which is fun . . . maybe that sums GI up the best--the writers are goofy at times and you can see they just want to have fun but they take the games seriously.

Play is excellent in its art and some in-depth articles but their reviews have no teeth . . . like anything else you might read if you agree with them--you'll like it . . . I do. If you're into Anime . . . Play gives you a bonus.

EGM is useful but very superficial but they give a good overview of things . . . definitely worth reading.

the demos in OXB and OPM make them worthwhile . . . I think official Playstation benefits by having its great index of games in the back telling you which issue to find more info (I actually save all my mags . . . its sick) OPM is also a decent read just as a mag because of some of the extra content (music and movies coverage) prolongs it.

XBN covers Xbox very well . . . much better than OXB which comes off mostly as a mouthpiece for Microsoft . . . also true of OPM but less so.

GMR is so-so . . . mostly just another mag . . . could have potential in the future. Unlike GI which comes out of Gamestop, GMR reads just like a mouthpiece for EBGames.

Nowadays, I think that PSM really sucks . . . very light but I still read it. As the PS2 has run out of gas, the mag has almost nothing to report

Gamepro is the most juvenille of them all--the reviews are worthless and their isn't much art . . . I can't think of anything good to say about it . . . except its free

I really miss Next Generation (Next Gen later). From 1994-2001 they had the most intelligent writing and really nice art . . . but also very few fans. They were dead-on to my mind about the PS1, N64 and PC markets at the time

gamereviewgod
09-09-2004, 02:40 PM
I have to say Game Informer is better then it was. It used to even more juvenille than Game Pro. However, nothing beats Play in the US. I wish they would dump the DVD, Music, and Anime sections, but otherwise, they feature the best writers in the buisness.

Now, I hghly recomened tracking down GameTM (which sadly, no one has mentioned, but it is a mag from Europe). Remember those old Chirtsmas issues of EGM? Every issue is like that. The covers are made from the style of paper as Next Gen as well. They have an extensive retro section in ever issue and their writing is also superb. Arguably the best gaming mag in the world.

Msia

The offer was sent to me through e-mail and I tried to get it before it was posted on this site and once I got past the first page there was no mention of the kit plane magazine again. It made me choose which trade magazine I wanted to order instead. I've tried it several times and the same thing always happens. It just doesn't work this way.

What you have to do is come to this thread twice a day (or more) and read the daily postings. If a CAGer knows of a freebie of any kind, they will post it here. Most all of them expire quickly (web amplification means they get many hits and run out of subs) so you have to be alert.

I don't think there are any available free gaming mag subs right now.

You only get freebies by staying on the ball.

There could be a free OXM sub tomorrow, next month, or never . . .

Thanks for the link.

Which of these usually has the hotter babes? Stuff, Maxim or FHM?

I just subscribed to Maxim, so I hope I picked the best one. :) I've seen Stuff before, pretty good. FHM I think had Catherine Bell in it a few years back, too bad I didn't know at the time or I might've bought that issue.

Who here hates EGM because the ink comes off on your hands? Me. Was going through the new one and I saw some pics of RE 4 that I didn't want to see. I've been trying not to see too much of the game before it comes out. But it happens all the time. Like IGNcube, that one time, posted the dude that comes running after you with a you know what. I hadn't planned on seeing that pic, but once the page was loaded, well, there it was. But I would've seen it in EGM anyway. A-wipes! Oh yeah, we should e-mail both their asses and tell them off. :)

Came with an insert in my new issue, it's a $71.40 value. You just have to answer some questions and answer them to the best of your knowledge. Great mag for the aspiring game designer/programmer.

Game Infromer is a stinking pile of monkey crap...its written by people who are EMPLOYED by GameStop so all of the reviews that get good scores are for games that the store is PUSHING that month...what a joke...for MONEY well spent...take $15.00 go down to your local EBGAMES and buy their magazine....its written by gus employed at ZIFF DAVIS AND it gives you over $150 in coupons every month....lets see Game Informer do that....what a joke that mag is...I'll read it just too feel good about myself...bunch of sell-outs

IMO Game Informer is the best magazine out there, especially for the price. Gamepro isn't nearly as good.[b]

http://www.pixelfixx.com/computergamessubscriptionsignup/signup.phpWhat do they mean by "do you agree to recieve exciting promotions from partners...". Will they be sending mail beside the magazine?

I've never even heard of Computer Games Magazine. Is it a big-time mag or a very small non-knowned one?

What exactly set this waste of DNA off? I didn't get to read his first poetic and eloquent post but I know he needed to be shot then. But why are we failures? I mean damn, shithead only has a total of 4 posts! What's he gonna go next, start up his own blog and whine how we're all so hypocritical and it's not fair?...

PS. Thanks Moxio, I seem to have an overflowing mailbox now! Keep up the good work!

You might want to use a spam email address. I doubt they'd send you spam by mail, as I've never received a single piece of spam snail mail.

Computer Games is an individual magazine publisher, so it's relatively small, but I like the magazine.

I got a postcard saying 'Thanks' from USAToday, so I guess I'll be getting my first issue in a couple days.
I hope that Magazinebin thing pans out, there are some great magazines on there that you cannot find for free anywhere; I'll gladly give them feedback for the mags I requested.
Yeah, I got four magazines yesterday. One was a free 'professional' mag which I don't really read; another was Forbes, which I don't read cover to cover, and one or two for my wife, so it wasn't too bad yesterday.
I don't mind giving my name and snailmail address to get free stuff, if people want to send me mail, they help keep my postage costs down. I use a disposable email address, but I don't like giving my phone number [or cell phone?!? um, no.]

5 months ago I didn't believe you could get decent free magazines (at least ones that you would actually see at a bookstore). As of today I get:

FHM (just got my first issue like everyone else recently)
Hollywood Entertainment (a bad version of People Magazine)
Golf Weekly
Sporting News Weekly
Computer Gamers
XBN
Ski Magazine
Bicylce Magazine
Black Enterprise (not very interesting for us Whities)
Digital Photography
Outdoor Photography
Electronic Games

I'm a believer now!!!
