You should be able to . . . I have EGM until 2011. Partly from buying 3 years for $4 on ebay but also a few signups (not knowing which would take)

My first post here and it's a great value!

Game Developer

www.gdmag.com/freeyear

Came with an insert in my new issue, it's a $71.40 value. You just have to answer some questions and answer them to the best of your knowledge. Great mag for the aspiring game designer/programmer.

Just bumping this up since it'll be active for a while.

Bumping it again since it's still free.

Here is a really good one:

http://www.americannewsstand.com/aavacure1.htm

They offer a bonus free subscription for ordering a magazine $50.00 or less but they don't actually seem to require you to order anything! Just choose the free magazine you want from the drop down menu which includes some good ones including Popular Science. Not only that but you can repeat the process to get a different magazine! :)

Hey Moxio, I signed up the EGM Digital and it gave me an email webmaster@freebizmag.com, do I contact them or do I contact EGM's email? Do you happen to know EGMs email address?

Moxio
09-23-2004, 07:50 PM
You'd have to contact EGM directly. However, there is no point in contacting them right after signing up for the deal, since your added sub usually doesn't get into their database until a couple weeks later. Once you see this sub added to your current (or you see your name in their DB if you're a new subscriber), THEN contact them.

careful- credit ratings still occupy a shady nether region of the financial world- well maybe the more accurate mixed metaphor is when in rome-
by that i mean, all kinds of crazy crap can be put onto your credit report without really knowing unless you check it out (some states allow you to get free ones ad-aware style) which is highly recommended

i suggest when signing up to be someone who does not exist

slidecage
09-24-2004, 06:30 PM
they could say you never cancelled. there used to be a place that you got music videos for 4.99 a month I cancelled but i was sued for 120 bucks cause they said i never cancelled even though i put return to sender on all of them,.

i had to take them to court and win to stop it

Moxio
09-24-2004, 07:01 PM
It's better not to post those one-issue trials at all, because it's just not worth sending it back with CANCEL written on it. If someone here forgets to, they'll start blaming you for not posting the fine print, as if it's your fault.

Just caution.

Not likely to be found . . . ebgames exclusive. I don't even see subscription discounts on it :(

Actually, the GMR subsciption is now $14.99 for a full year

EGGAMES also has a way of getting magazines for free in their stores.
All you do is pay with a credit card and they give you two months of any tow mags for free. You then call an 800# and tell them you only want the 2 issues of the 2 mags, and they cancel you right away. I did it and it took all of 3 minutes. And the best part is, is that every two months you can do this, over, and over, and over!

slidecage: in referance to the fort wayne newspapers its probably a bait and switch to where they will eventually raise the sunday only subscription to 2.25 or so and than make the weekly like 2.50 or 2.75. for only 25-50 cents more you can get the whole week and from an advertising standpoint that will be more subscriptions thus allowing and demanding higher advertising fees meaning more profits for the journal and sentinal.

Bleh. I just called them and told them i get the sunday for the coupons only and I would be willing to pay 1.00 a week for the sunday only and they said ok. I pay 52 a year and because of what they are doing i get fri and sat too.

they have said down there they dont plan on jacking up the price of the paper. It would be nice if they would jack it up so the people who deliver the paper (like me) can get a raise. I mean they are giving out all this free stuff and yet they refuse to give us a raise. It was an easy job when gas was 1.00 but when its this high, spending 200+ a month in gas is no fun.

Depending on the publishing cycle, it can take up to 8-12 weeks [or more] to be added to the sub list and start getting issues. Mine usually haven't taken that long, but it can happen.

Some of the ones I signed up for in the past were 'new release' magazines, building up sub lists before the mag even came out. It never came out.

still no word from Maxim, Stuff (3-4 months ago) or TV Guide. Guess I'm not getting them =P oh well, they were for free... not like I lost money

I got my first TV Guide two weeks ago (i got three so far). I'm guessing it was expired before you signed up.

I still suggest calling TG's customer service and seeing if they have your account:

I've been getting TVGuide for almost a year for free; I really get nothing out of it. I briefly skim through the articles, and occasionally do the crossword, but as a tv, er, guide, it's pretty much worthless. The onscreen EPG is much much easier to use.
I got 3 issues of USAToday last week, and none today. Delivery seems to be intermittent, at least down here.
I won't complain too hard, since it's free.

Go back a few pages. Somewhere there are links to customer service pages. You can tell them about a missing issue, change your adress, etc.

For the USA Today, I'd advise contacting them, and telling them where you signed up for the free order. I did this with EGM and CGW, and they dropped the charges.

A bill?

Well, there's not much they can do if they don't have your credit card number. If they continue to send you bill notices, just call them up or write them on the bill that you got the free magazines through MagCentral or wherever.

When I was getting the free 13 week sub to USA Today they started sending me reminder notices to extend my subscription. After my 13 weeks was up they started slowing down and have since stopped. Look at the "bill" and see if it isn't a reminder notice to extend your subscription.

Yes, you shouldn't be receiving bills, as no one else is. Perhaps you signed up for an offer that was "risk-free", rather than completely free, because I've signed up for TONS of mags, and not a single bill.

Hey, my GamePro subscription somehow got extended to next year. I filled out the latest GameSpy offer about a month ago -- the one that says "sorry, this offer is over" after you submit your info -- I wonder if they honored it anyway, or if it just "automatically" renewed itself for another year. [My October ish had an Oct 04 date, the new one says Oct 05.]

Just an interesting observation.

Do these E-Bay deals really work?

They have EGM for as low as $3 (plus $4 shipping) for a year subscription, or you can get 3 years for around $12... They also have X-BOX Nation magazine and many others for DIRT cheap.

How can they do this when the official sites for these magazines are charging 10x that? ($20 per year or some are even $40 per year....)

[edit] Well, I've ordered two magazines from e-bay: PSM and EGM. PSM I paid $0.06 + $4 shipping (12 issues) and EGM I paid $6 + $5 shipping (24 issues).

$15 for BOTH magazines is an AWESOME deal (as long as I didn't just get ripped off). The only bummer is that it takes 8 - 12 weeks to receive the first issiue (3 months?! yikes.)

Anyways -- Is there any good way to get Nintendo Power magazine for cheap? I'm interested in the Official X-Box Magazine as well but it costs a bit more than the others ($9 + $5 shipping for only 12 issues).

Sometimes alot of free mags are found at around the same time by different people, and we really don't need that many threads just for free mags.

I mean, 70 pages in this thread really shouldn't be spread out into 100 different threads, right?

I've emailed/ PMed Cheapy a couple times to ask him if he would update the first post, but I guess he just doesn't feel like it. :?

and why not?
if people randomly found free video games or dvds would there be an "official" messy thread about them?

I mean, 70 pages in this thread really shouldn't be spread out into 100 different threads, right?
wrong. if there were 100 seperate posts it would be out with the old in with the new. the old deals would die off since they are no longer active and the new threads would appear on the front page so more cags can use them.

I've emailed/ PMed Cheapy a couple times to ask him if he would update the first post, but I guess he just doesn't feel like it. :?

i see legit new free magazine subs a few times a week...its common enough to me....and as far as updating the OP made by cheapy on this thread goes....any mod can feel free to take care of that, but they don't seem to care enough, even though its a sticky made by cheapy....and i too stopped looking in this thread a few months ago, because it seemed that nothing new was coming up...but if you check every few days, you'll soon see just how much attention this thread actually gets....i personally vote for a "magazine deals thread", where you ONLY post links to magazine deals....and than another thread titled "magazines deals discussion"...where you can discuss the magazine deal that was posted in the magazine deals thread....that way, you don't have to search through the thousands of "do these really work", "did anyone get this", and "can you find me a cosmo sub" posts in order to find an actual magazine deal....sorry for the rambling...hopefully this is readable...

true...which is why we should have one separate thread, strictly for posting the links to magazine deals...and another thread if needed...for discussing the deals.....the discussing the deals thread can have the links too, but the link only threads should have only the link and a description of the deal provided with the link....i think that would work, but I may be wrong...

I see nothing wrong with the way it is now. I don't see it as a 70 page topic since i only have to go back a page or two to find out the newest deals. It really isn't THAT difficult to do and i don't understand what all of the complaints are about.

im really not complaining....im defending the way it is as well as offering a new (maybe more user-friendly) way.....id rather it be this way than all separate threads for each new deal

subs for less.com, how do you get the deal?

i just looked, and you have to click on "mens" on the lefthand menu, then click on which magazine you want, then there are two drop down menus on the right, one of which is the free subscription.

unfortunately, while i was looking at the site, i realized that it will still end up costing around $3.50 a subscription with the free one ($7 total or so), so it's not really the deal i had originally thought.

I would rather have everything in one thread so I can just look over the last few pages. If we have to start picking through different threads, people will lose interest. Just my 2 cents...

i see legit new free magazine subs a few times a week...its common enough to me....and as far as updating the OP made by cheapy on this thread goes....any mod can feel free to take care of that, but they don't seem to care enough, even though its a sticky made by cheapy....and i too stopped looking in this thread a few months ago, because it seemed that nothing new was coming up...but if you check every few days, you'll soon see just how much attention this thread actually gets....i personally vote for a "magazine deals thread", where you ONLY post links to magazine deals....and than another thread titled "magazines deals discussion"...where you can discuss the magazine deal that was posted in the magazine deals thread....that way, you don't have to search through the thousands of "do these really work", "did anyone get this", and "can you find me a cosmo sub" posts in order to find an actual magazine deal....sorry for the rambling...hopefully this is readable...

That's the best idea, in my opinion.

Agreed, sounds good, Not to far back that was pretty much what the thread was like, but over time got to be much more discussion/banter and very few deal posts.

Other than one person trying to keep track of current deals on a first page . . . if someone wants to do it?! I don't see a need for changes. We could use the launch of a fresh thread (with the same title).

That would be cool for the outsiders who continue to come in here and post nonsense gripes "are there any deals?" . . .

I think this format is fine, but we need less bull$#@& posts (like mine right here and all of this discussion) and just posts for mags!!!

If we have an updated first-page format, it's likely that many deals will be dead by the time they reach that page . . . but that's ok.

Whats all the arguing about? I'm getting free magazines and I'm sure a lot of you are as well so lets just keep it going the same way as it has. And when this thread gets to big let Moxio or someone who contributes a lot this thread start a new one. Not a big deal and for sure this thread isn't dead. Theres new magazines posted every week and this thread can also be used to help others out by giving them links to customer service and posting about past experiences to help out .

I would prefer to leave it as is, not that difficult to navigate, just takes looking through 3 pages or less usually.

I check the last page of the thread everyday. I see no problem with the way it is now. I get new mags almost weekly without having to dig through the entire thread. These deals only last a few hours anyways so you'd be updating the front page constantly trying to get rid of dead links.

I pretty much agree with zewone

it not broke at the moment so don't fix it.

If Maximo would feel up to this task or someone else a new thread with slighly more updated posts on a front page with newer added one's on the later pages and then updated to the front page when possible would be nice. The guide thread was cluttered all to heck and I knew it would be much more effective with a list so I decided to try to tackle that one. It has been much subdued lately sadly. Either way though I am quite happy that these are here. It has helped the midnight shift pass so much easier.

Thanks again all.

The problem with pornography is that it's difficult to say whether something is pornographic or not. It's like art. Some caricature drawn on a white board isn't art, but you can't say why not. Instead, it's something that you know it when you see it...
