So what do you guys think? Keep in mind that this is my first time attempting to build a computer. At first I was going to go w/ PCI-E but it was too expensive so I just went AGP. Also I can't afford a 3D Card just yet so I will be using the FX5200 that is in this computer that I'm using now.

I'd have gone with an Athlon 64, better price/performance.

Also, I'd have ordered the NEC ND-3520A instead of that LG burner, its cheaper and one of the best on the market today.

You don't seem to have ordered a video card, unless you already have one, you might want to consider the 6600GT, you can get one for under $150 at Newegg.

Yeah I was going to but I was told my people that they were unreliable. So I went on the internet and did some research and I just went w/ a P4. I'm actually upgrading from a P4 1.7Ghz with 512 SDRAM which was the max ram that it allowed. Trust me I'll take anything that is faster then what I currently have.

Have them show me how Athlon is unreliable, and I'll show them a green dog.
Intel at least has the reputation of being around forever, which really doesn't mean much. Go with AMD. Also, that's quite a nifty case, but you'll want to use snips to remove most of the grating on the ducts. You made a fine choice with the screwless install, my Dell Optiplex has a similar setup making component swaps a snap.

Geez, you people make Intel look like nothing even though it's not true. Intel and Amd have their ups and downs but in essence, it's all about preference really.

nice not bad...right now im finishing ordering my parts to build a sexy pc..ill prob post pics too when im done..

i dont know whether to get an athlon 64 3700 with l2 cache which ggoes for about $330 or a 3500 venice core which only has 512kb l2. I also cant seem to find the 3500 venice in retail box, only oem

unreliable? wtf.. i have athlon 64 3200 right now and it has been superb since day one

lol i have the same case. You should return that LG burner- they have a problem with region code (yes, some places still do that crap) amongst other things-also, in the future, avoid anything OEM. May cost more, but get retail box for the warrenty(RMA can be a bitch for white box/oem). Try pricewatch.com for other items, or xpcgear.com You can grab an ati card for around 200ish for an 9800, or 292 for the 9800pro all in wonder. Sapphire makes a damn good card for slightly less, but can be oc'd no problem. You made a good choice in the P4 (i have my reason's for choosing pentuim over athlon) but that's my personal choice-to each there own.

Ya got pinched on your cpu- coulda got a 3.2 prescott for slightly cheaper. Other then that, looks like good shopping and a decent rig. You do need to look into a diffrent monitor though (i need to do the same ;P ) BB has 15" lcd samsung or toshibas for 200

So he should downgrade from his 19"-21" Sony trinitron to a measly 15" lcd with low resolution and horrible response time?

lol

For a 15" toshiba LCD? You are crazy. If I had to use a monitor less than 17" I would probably stab my eyes out.
