Gamespot Top Ten...FF7 Tech Demo?

Today I was checking gamespot and saw that the FF7 Tech Demo is their number 1 game right now.

How does that work? It's not even going to be a game. It was just a vid like the Killzone trailer...and its not even running on a pure (100% complete) system yet.

I don't know...it just seems like its a little fanboyish coming from a respected gaming site. And yes, I realize that E3 brings out the fanboy in most gamers, but still. I'm all for the ridiculous claims that each company makes about the new systems, because I feel that gamers benefit the most from the competition. But do we need gaming sites adding fuel to the fanboy fire?

Here's what got me started. My cousin (12 years old) called me today because he wanted to know what new system would be the best. I told him I had no clue, that there are some early opinions, but that it'd be best to wait and see. He then says "but the graphics from the FF7 trailer were awesome! ps3 will be better than all of them!"

Problem is, I'm hearing mature adults make the same arguments on every gaming message board. I just don't see the logic. Can we at least see a vid of in game footage before we declare the winner of the next gen systems?

Wow, that was all over the place. Sorry for the rant, it just struck me as oddly unprofessional coming from gamespot. What do you think?

Gamespot has to organize its masses of media under titles for games (or in some cases - such as this one - under topics). The site couldn't store the media under FFVII for Playstation, since that's not what it really is. They created the page, or "gamespace" for the trailer for the sole purpose of placing it and only it there (unless somehow Square Enix is secretly working on it as a game, in which case it will be filled out with more media, news, reviews, etc.).
The "top games" listed on the bottom of the main page are determined by page hits; it's not Gamespot's fault that the demo generated so much interest to bring it to the top slot. This is why after rumors sprout or big news pieces sprout up (or new media appears for a big game - this happens periodically with FFXII) we see odd entries pop onto the list, then disappear. Really, it's not that Gamespot is unprofessional or anything - this one's on the hands of the site's visitors who downloaded it in droves (myself included).

That trailer was like 10 seconds. How can it be number one?

exactly... i say either the warhawk or the killzone trailer still the show... warhawk, mainly for the amazing comeback.

The reason it seems fanboyish is because it is. The list is generated by user traffic and the tech demo was given its own page because it was hidden inside the E3 stuff. GameSpot's just giving its readers what they what in an easier to find location...
