Well, scratches can't really affect it, but dust and water etc. I mean they say, it works etc but anything that should shy me from buying used? Thanks

I have never seen a water damaged GBA game so I do not think that will be a problem, and niether is dust.

the only problem you would have is checking if the game is a boot if it is a HTF title

As long as the case isn't cracked it's probably all good, I personally have never seen a non-working GBA cart. My cousin accidentally washed one a while back, and it still works perfect.

I've purchased over 30 GBA games. And so far, I've only encountered problem once. It was a strange problem. When I insert the cart into my GBA SP, and turn it on, it would only show the Nintendo logo but not start the game. I went to my local GameStop and the guy told me that some GBA carts are a bit tricky and that you need to push one side of cart into the GBA/SP more than the other side. So when it's inserted, the cart is not flushed against the GBA/SP. But one side is protruding more than other side. The same cart also has same issue with my GameBoy Player.

What's even more strange is after my original GBA/SP started to go bad on me, I contacted Nintendo and was able to swapped my flaky original GBA/SP for a refurbished one. After I got my new refurbished GBA/SP from Nintendo, and I inserted that cart with the 'problem', guess what? I no longer need to insert it slanted to get the cart to run. Even when I tried it on my GameBoy Player, it works fine when inserted straight.

Very strange problem.... I've never encountered after that time.
