I was excited to get this game but after hearing this news I'm not sure if I am going to pick it up.

Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that it will shut down the servers of its PlayStation 2 RPG Arc The Lad Generation (Arc The Lad: End of Darkness) in Japan on June 30th. Afterwards, the Cattle Call-developed game will only be playable offline.

Namco Hometek will release Arc The Lad: End of Darkness in the US on June 7th. The game has gone gold earlier this month.

Hmm...this game must not be very good. I hadn't even heard anything about it until just a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed the previous Arc the Lad titles, but this one looks a little lame.

It's supposedly a BIG step foward for the series.

I'll pick it up when it hits $20 or less.

i was actually pretty interested in this:

Action RPG with unlockable characters, and online

But then again, Syphon Filter Omega Strain was basically Action Game with unlockable weapons online, and that sounded really lame

why must almost every creative sony online game fail?

Won't it be Namco keeping the server online?

The online aspects probably suck. The single player could still be good... at least I hope so.

This is why PS2's model of free online sucks... Developers are responsible for the cost of running these servers, and since it doesn't make them any money, you never know when they'll be shut down. They can charge fees if they want to, on a per game basis, but that really sucks.

Actually according to review for the japanese version the online function is the best part of the game.

It's hard to say what the furture of this game online is, the inability of the PSTwo to use FFXI and the fact that the online console RPG market here is thin compared to overseas means they could keep the servers up a while. Then again, Arc the Lad isn't exactly an all out hit in the states so they could choose to cut very soon if it doesn't move much on the sales chart.

I can't pick this up for anything over 10 dollars =/
