Yeah I suck... and this is a pointless thread.
but it is raining out and I have nothing to do
so who has played warhammer 40000k dawn of war or whatever it is called (the rts one?)
I'm a huge fan of warcraft 3, and I'm wondering if that game can hold my attention like WC 3 could

I played the demo & thought it was GREAT! (& I'm not a big RTS fan either) Don't have a clue what the Warhammer universe is about (maybe evil contractors? The Warhammers against The Warnails? Against The Warpipes?) except that it involves lots of painting...
I'm still waiting for a good sale or price drop to pick it up...but if the expansion is coming out soon...I'm getting behind! sheesh

Dawn of War is EXCELLENT, the resource management system makes alot of sense, and the units you can use are excellent. I love having squads of men instead of just churning out one unit at a time.
Warcraft 3 feels a bit slow paced to me, while Dawn of War is a quick game. I mean, you can amass armies very quickly, and every unit has a purpose. Each of the four races is great, as well.
I know barely anything about the Warhammer universe... the universe is great though. All of these guys look like battle hardened ass kickers, and can use either melee or long rage weaons in combat.
I thought the expansion was coming out in the Winter... glad to see it's dropping in August, I can't wait. It adds another race and more stuff to the existing ones.
I just playing Warhammer:DoW last night, and Iam only at the third mission but I really like it,but I only have so much time and back to Guild Wars I go

Dawn of War, my favorite RTS game ever. I like it better'n WC3 and TA, but that's just me.
Looking forward to the expansion, too. Gonna have a bunch of goodies in it.

This is why we don't abbreviate "assault".

You should get it and this is why.
Okay Dawn of War W40k is a great all around game, a title like this goes hand and hand with Rome Total War.
Dawn of War offers a rich new style of gameplay which is squad based, units come in pairs of a veriety of numbers. The other major change is, theres no "Gold resource", "Wood Resource". The money in this game is Requisition and power, requisition is obtained by capturing stratigic points on the map, the more you have the more requisition you get. Power is obtained by building generators the more you have the more power you get.
Theres not too much base building going on in the game as there is fighting, with effects such as morale and skills for each unit, its wise to be intent in battles and use strategic forces to overcome the enemy. In this game the size of your army doesn't matter, its how you use it. But don't get me wrong theres still a good handfull of base building for all you people out there. Dawn of war is different then other Rts's also because it allows you to paint your army, based off of 5 choices Primary, Secondary, Trim, Weapon, Eye. You may also upload your own custom badges and banners into Dawn of War (Which can be used in multiplayer) Dawn of War's other excellence is how it excells in stunning graphics and animations to keep your battle full of blood n' guts. (It's beautiful)
Dawn of War comes originally with 4 very diverse races, Space marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar. (Here's a little history and stratique for you guys)
Space Marines: Genetic enginered soldiers created to serve the emperor of mankind and protect him from his foe's. They come in small numbers but pack a punch hosting the best and elite units in the game. Space Marines have a code of divisions which is represented in Chapters (Dark Angels, Ultra Marines, Imperial Fists..., Etc... Etc...) They have a simplistic techtree and well rounded tactical units which can be upgraded to counter almost anything. (Good for beginners)
Chaos Space Marines: Once valient defenders of the Emperor, they gave into the desires of Chaos paying the ultimate price. Chaos Marines serve 4 gods. Khorne (God of blood and war), Tzneetch (God of magic and deception), Slaneesh (God of pleasure and tortuer), Nurgle (God of Disease). They come in slightly larger numbers then the Space Marines but are also slightly weaker. They also have a veriety of demon units to use, and a slightly more advanced tech tree. (Good stepping stone from Space Marines)
Eldar: Once rulers of the galaxy controling it with vast and unparelled power, before the age of man. Their empire had fallen due to their greatest foe (Chaos) and now they use a system of webways which are connected to the "Craftworld" (A large vortex kinda place lots of teleporting yada yada), (They have different craftworld alliances examples being (Beil Tan, Iyaden.. etc etc). The eldar as a race work like rock paper scissors. They have specialist squads that work well only against what they're ment to, otherwise they're pretty uneffective against other forms of infantry. Their techtree is slightly more advanced then the chaos, and the eldar rely on much physic ability to overcome their enemy. (Adviced as a stepping stone from Chaos Space Marines)
Orks: Mutants of the galaxy, they are looked down upon as primative and inferior, their divisions are divided by clans (Goff's, Gold Toof's, Snakebitez.. etc etc) Their stratedgy is simple. Overwelm the enemy. They can have the largest amount of infantry fielded at a time, it may not be the best infantry, but they're orks, What do they care? Orks techtree is actually very advanced and complicated compared to the other races (Unexpected eh?) They work with a meter called "Waaagh" Which basically is the amount of orks you have, the more orks you have the more the "Waaagh" meter will fill up, and thus the more you can upgrade your orks. (A very complex race and suggested as final race you try to master)
Now thats just regular Dawn of War, Theres a healthy amount of Mod's going on, heres the Major ones thus so far. (The thumbnails are just samples, if you care to view more go to the websites)

Please keep all pointless posts to the OTT and don't clutter the board with useless new topics.
