I am surprised no one noticed this. This was in the interview on Gamespot with George Harrison of NOA
http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/26/news_6126595.html
No, I think GameCube will stay in its current form. We'll be looking at more value in bundling options late in the lifecycle. As we get to the holidays we're going to announce this afternoon to the retailers that we're going to launch the Super Smash Brothers GameCube bundle in August at $99. So that'll be a good piece to carry us into the fall, and then we'll look at a couple of other options for the holidays.

Sales are slow?
I think his point was that Smash Brothers is an old game thus maybe it would not have as much appeal as a free game. If they offered something more recent it would be a better bundle.

Nintendo is behind with the times, and still living in the past. Instead of a Zelda bundle that could also act like an ad for the new Zelda we get this.
No one should care about this. EB right now you can get a PC game and the FF:CC game with a GC.

Its for people who don't have a Gamecube, so they wouldn't have Smash Bros. Besides they are making another bundle for the holidays that will be even better, just like they had Metroid Prime bundle followed by a Mario Kart with bonus controller bundle last year.

I just wish they would lower the price on the game itself. I own 22 GameCube games, but I still don't have SSBM.

Same here. It's on sale for $27.99 at CC next week I believe and I think I'm finally gonna get it.

Stop fucking around with SSBM and take it down to $20! Nintendo's refusal to lower this game is the bane of my GC collection.

Come on guys, if there's one Cube game that's worth the $29.99, it's SSBM. I got it w/employee discount when it first came out for $37 and consider that one of the best bargains I've ever gotten on games, especially considering how much play it's seen!
SteveMcQ

If I were to get it, it'd solely be to have it. I'd doubt I'd put much time into it as the game never really hooked me.

A good way to sweeten the pot on this bundle would be to throw in a 251 memory card. Or make it a new color. Either one.

Melee is definately worth a purchase, I still play it to this day.

SSVM I refused to buy for $30 because Nintendo is just milking off it. Luckily I found it for $20 at Christmas.

It's crazy to own a GC and not SSBM!

$18.75 USED A/C at EBgames, if you have a GC, BUY IT!

Its for people who don't have a Gamecube. . .
I think we can safely assume that most people who don't have a Gamecube also don't have many games for it, so by your logic, any old Gamecube game would work just as well in the bundle. The point was that Nintendo should be offering a "new" highly-sought-after title like Twilight Princess to better pique consumer interest rather than an older game like SSBM.

Maybe, just maybe, if all the Nintendo fanboys stopped bitching about the $7 difference between $27 and $20 and actually went out and bought the damn game Nintendo wouldn't be in last place.

7 dollar difference = 35% more... woulld u like to pay 67 for a 49.99 game?
anyways cant u just buy the gamecube at EBgames, then return FFCC and the PC game to walmart and get 70 or so dollars in walmart credit and buy smash brothers with credit left over for another game that you want?... or will that be return fraud lol

I bpught tji9s full price 2 or 3 weeks after release, and I don't give a damn if you don't agree with me, this is still one of the best games of this generation. Fuck Zelda: TP, every NGC owner needs to own SSBM, Nintendo's simply making it easier for all the noobs :)

You're not going to make friends on CAG, I can tell.

isnt that why we're on this thread...because we have no friends? heehee
I know I'm not the only GCN owner who doesn't give a damn about SSBM.
David85
07-02-2005, 01:33 AM
Lets see, SSBM might have sold like 4 million copies. There are 15 to 20 million GCs. So no you aren't the only one.

IDK about you guys, but SSBM, Mario Kart and Zelda are the only reasons I want a GC. Come August, I may FINALLY drop the $100 to get one.

You might want to rethink that one.
I just don't think anyone cares. The GC is dead, barring Zelda(wouldn't be surprised if they pushed it to a revolution launch title :-\)

With the Revolution coming out so soon, wouldn't it be smarter to just wait it out and buy the Revolution? (since its backwards compatible anyways?)

Depending on the price of the Revolution, it could be. But some people may not want to wait either.

i saw it at Fry's today. it looks just the metroid/mart kart bundle; with the additional packaging cover slipped over.
SSBM was the second game i purchased, after Metroid Prime, it has its values primarily in multiplayer/party games. it's pretty good solo, but multiplayer is where this game shines. anyone can pick-up and play, very family/general audience oriented. it takes less than 30 seconds to learn the basic controls, and probably way too long to master.
i played in a SSBM local GameCrazy tournament once, shoot i thought i was good (Link) ......no way. another guy used Samus and slammed me around like a rag doll. he played very well, i think him or his buddy owned the tournament that day.

Am I the only one who found GCN's RPGs to be way, way better than PS2?
I played hours and hours and hours of stuff like Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia, and Baten Kaitos on Gamecube.. I played through Xenosaga and about two hours of FFX (Before I couldn't take anymore) on PS2.
Anyway.. Nintendo is about three and a half years late on this bundle. They might as well give up on GCN and get the Revolution out as soon as possible.

saw this at TRU today when i went to pick up Nintendogs. Ironically, besides the silver color, this is the exact same grouping of items (system, SSBM, extra controller) that I got for $280 when the system launched.
I guess I could've waited 3 years, but I'm glad I didnt.

if its one thing about GC is that at title that is so called exlusive goes onto other platforms later like PS2 : Viewtiful Joe, RE 4, Killer 7

In other words, 3 Capcom games, 2 of which were never said to be exclusive.

If you go to Ciruit City you get some stickers to put on your new Smash Bros. Gamecube Bundle with purchase of the bundle of course.
I heard in another thread that TRU has the upcoming Pokemon XD Gamecube bundle listed for $99.99 in their computer. If true, it might be worth looking into.

Who said anything about a second controller? It unfortunately doesn't come with any extras other than the game (and the stickers at circuit city).

Well I was at Circuity City today trying to get the Transporter DVD that has a free ticket to the sequel (couldn't find it btw), and not only do they have the Smash Bros. Bundle; they let you replace Smash bros with any game that is $29.99 or less. That means you could substitute smash bros. with any players choice games, or some of the 3rd party games like Mortal Kombat Deception.

makes sense considering SSMB has been the top selling GC game to date, Why not pimp it some more I know Double Dash sold a bunch of unit's...didn't they do a metroid bundle also ?

How do they do that when it's bundled with the system?

SSBM isn't a PC anymore, so I'm guessing it's just the 'Best Seller' logo version.

Its not bundled in with the system at every store.
