xenosaga 2 expert question

I didnt want to use to the strategy guide the first time i play, but i decided to look through it right after the first disk. and i realized i missed getting the stealing ability , and also missed stealing awakening 1 from albedo. i really want that . is there a way i can still get awakening 1 or do i have to start all over? :( also when i go back to fight in old areas can i still fight the bosses from those areas? thnx

i dont like how rpgs these days are designed to make you buy a strategy guide, or start over if you dont check constantly at message boards, if you want to get everything. i dont remember ps1 rpgs being like this
