well i got my DS cause they said ANimal crossing was to come out by March 2005 well it got delayed till June 2005. I went back into gamestop and they told me Dont hold your breathe for Animal crossing cause what they heard its been cancellled. the last date they had was Dec 2005 but its now TBA in thei data base. Ebgames has it listed for sometime in Nov 2005. A local mom and pop store has it listed APril 2006
they also said Mario kart Advance wars and a few other TOP A type games have all been pushed back to Xmas 2005 or First part 2006
if sony was smart they would drop the PSP Right now and put the final nail into the DS and end it right now. I mean come on people Name 5 Must own games for the DS and its been out what 6 months you would think there would at least be 3 Major own games by now..
and FF 3 what was another selling point for the DS is now nowhere to be seen

yeah, im calling BS until a major outlet reports this. this is a huge franchise for nintendo that is going to push many units. not only that the game was playable at e3, its not like this game was early in development. id say that little bastard probably is just assuming that because the computer doesnt have a release date, gamestop computers dont always have release dates for games and that has to do with nintendo not officially announcing one yet, not with a cancellation.
That aside, if this does turn out to be true, I will be very jaded as animal crossing as a big selling point in my purchase of DS

they didn't get pushed back. Both Animal Crossing and Mario Kart are coming out this year. They were pretty much a major highlight of the Nintendo conference at E3, so I would be shocked if they do
and they probably are going to show FFIII when they show FFXII in July

ok, you can't trust a mom and pop store, neither can you trust a gamestop employee. most of them don't really know what's going on in the videogame industry (at least the inside info).
I would say people just have no idea when it's going to be out and they're putting up guesses. why not? if they can get more preorders, the better.

Okay, those are all the DS games that were shown at E3. Nintendo is NOT pulling support for the DS; why would they? They've been selling like hotcakes.

Yeah, gamestop just doesn't know when its being released. I highly doubt that they'd cancel a game like this. Actually, I can't remember an announced nintendo(developed) game that was ever cancelled.

Yeah the DS had a great showing at E3 besting Sony.
Lunar
Nanostray
Super Mario Bros.
Castlevania
Nintendogs
Sonic Rush (looks incredible, and I typically don't like Sonic)
Final Fantasy: CC
Viewtiful Joe DS
Legend of Zelda DS (confirmed)
Can you name more than 5 must have titles for the XBOX after six months. Even the PS2 or Gamecube. Sure there were above average games but no system had more than a couple "must have" games until a little later in their lifespan.
What exactly does the PSP have? Their "killer app" right now is a puzzle game. Their sports games suck. They have a great line-up coming up but as we get further and further into videogames becoming moree and more of a multi-billion dollar industry we have to put up with consoles being rushed to market and half-assed games taking advantage of the fact of the limited diveristy of titles.
This isn't the SNES days where we got a new system when we absolutely needed a new system and all the potential of a console was explored.

good to hear though that it hasnt been cancelled. still though my DS hasnt been out of the box since March and that was only the 3rd time i even played it
1. Metriod demo
2. Mr driller Played 10 mins
3. World poker Played 20 mins
so you can see since Buying the DS back in jan 2005 the system has only been on for less then an hour. Sad there is nothing to play

I'm calling BS on this whole rumor. Makes no sense fromt he get go. Why the hell would Nintendo pull support for the DS now when it is still selling extremely well? Also, if your sources are a Gamestop computer/release date/employee and a mom and pop shop than I wouldn't really trust them at all. When some major source comes out and says that they have stopped production on it than I'll believe it. It's not like the game is in early production.
This rumor needs to be squashed. Just wait out a little longer and the games will start rolling. I can also name 5 must own games, or at least for me but the whole idea is very subjective to the individual.

Ya lets all trust GameStop and beleave that Animal Crossing has been Canncelled.
Just like how they were all telling people back in 2003 that Nintendo was leaveing the Console market after the GameCube and that all the Nintendo Series were going to be on the Xbox 2. *rolls eyes*
Nintendo has it listed for Q4 2004.
GameInformer is saying that Animal Crossing is going to be coming out July 2006.
It's coming out this year end of story.
I'm sorry but I find it so stupid that someone would even beleave this for a moment. For crying out loud they were showing it off at E3 and making a big deal about it.
And name 5 Must own games for the DS.
Metroid Prime Hunters DEMO
WarioWare: Touched!
Yoshi Touch and Go
Star Wars Episode III
Meteos
Nintendogs
Polarium
Puyo Pop Fever
Electroplankton
*Ya I import*
And the Demo for Kenshui Tendo Dokuta was freaken amazing. I can't wait for the US release.
And then there are all the games that are in the pipe line to be relesed this year.
The DS is doing EXTREAMLY well and isn't going any where any time soon. and Its going to continue to kick ass and take names.
here is a question for you name 5 Must own games for the PSP?

hey man, wario ware and yoshis touch and go are great games to pick up and play in between classes and stuff or anytime you have a spare 20 minutes. and i have fallen in love with polarium, it is a fantastic puzzler that i actually enjoy playing more than i did lumines (beause it is very hard) so if you are into puzzle games, even a little bit, GET POLARIUM

Nintendo talked up Animal Crossing DS big at their E3 2005 press conference last month, so I highly doubt they'd pull the plug on it so quickly. I'd say the monkeys you talked with at Gamestop simply didn't know what they were talking about. (It wouldn't be the first time Gamestop employees had been wrong about something. . .)

Wipeout Pure
Metal Gear Acid
Twisted Metal
Ape Escape
Dynasty Warriors
Oh, and those were all LAUNCH TITLES. In my opinion, PSP had the best launch in recent memory.
But both handhelds kinda suck right now, and I haven't bought either of them yet.

this is a funny irony. you can name 5 MUST OWN titles (possibly more must own titles for you since you counted ape escape and dynasty warriors, as well as twisted metal). yet you said the handheld sucks. better yet, you KNOW they are must owns without even having the system.

Yeah they were personal must-owns. As in, I would buy them if I owned the system. They're must-owns, not must-buy-the-system-to-play-these-games-um-owns. Maybe my definition of a must-own is different from everyone else's. Anyway, I think I lost sight of my point, which was that both handhelds are about equal when it comes to games, and neither of them have really had anything overly exciting come out for them yet.

Um, can you name 5 must own PSP games? I can't but thats just me.*EDIT* I just noticed others have pointed this out already. Nintendo may have released the DS early but it wasnt a bad move since it CAN play all the GBA games. PSP has NO backwards combatability.

Are you suggesting that people only buy what they want around Christmas? Give me a break. There's two reasons for the low number in sales of the PSP: #1 - Too expensive and #2 - Most of their "launch titles" are games scraped from the bottom of the PS2 bargain bin.

They wouldn't be much closer though. If I was a parent christmas shopping, and didn't know a thing about video games, I'd be picking up the DS for my kid over the PSP. $100 will pay for a lot of other cool toys, or even a few games for the system.

agreed, i know that i would have one, and many others would too, if it werent for the 250 dollar price point... parents would have followed the same logic during christmas time. sure some kids would recieve a psp as a gift, but many parents just arent willing to spend that much on a handheld that will likely end up damaged (assuming the child is under say 14)

What planet are you living on? The average income for a family of 3 in the US is 43,527. fact (http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/income/income03/statemhi.html)
So you mean to tell me that a family spends a THIRD OF THEIR INCOME in a 4 Week period, spending roughly $4.5k a week or $643 a day starting on Black Friday?
I'm hoping that was a typo and you meant 1.8k. Either way because Sony couldn't get their act together before Christmas is not Nintendo's fault.

Feel the Magic - You can Beat it in one sitting easy
Yoshi Touch 'n' Go - Snore
Warioware - Beat it in one sitting
Polarium - Fucking horrible
Meteos (when it comes out next month) -meh
Shit, I'll keep going:
Mr driller - Neat....short as fook
Zoo Keeper - Yay! Another Bejeweled! And look! Nothings changed a bit!! Wooo!
Ridge Racer DS & Rayman DS - N64 shit pile...why did anyone even try??
Metroid - (Will it ever come out?) Not many Demos come out a year early.
Sonic - Looks cool...about as cool as Sonic Heroes did.
But its not all bad...I'm planning to buy a DS if these come out:
Advanced wars looks hot
Animal Crossing looks nice
Other colors of DS?? (Silver and barf blue sucks)
PSP on the other hand:
Ridge Racers - Badass
Twisted Metal - Pretty ok...but online - so pretty badass
Wipeout - Badass
Hot Shots Golf - Badass
Metal Gear Ac!d - Pretty awesome
Lumines - Better than any DS puzzle game.

Warioware - A great new gene.
Polarium - Fucking horrible is right.
Metroid - All three sound good
Sonic Rus - Looks amazing
Advanced Wars also amazing
Animal Crossing could be better but still.
PSP on the other hand:
Ridge Racers - SHit Racer
Twisted Metal - Who cares? Old shit.
Wipeout - SHit Racer (Just buy F-Zero GX)
Hot Shots Golf - It's a fucking golf game.
Metal Gear Ac!d - A Pokemon and Magic Card game!!! Wow!!!!
Wow!!! I like different games than you!!!! Wow!!!! I don't go into the PSP board and bash the shit out of the badly made system.

That 700-800 mb was a DVD quality copy. You could shring it to WMV and lower the resolution and get a movie down to 300-400 mb.
I'd just burn the movie to DVD and bring a portable DVD player. Why would I take a PSP to a lake to watch a movie? "Hey JimBob! Let's watch this here "Saw" movie! Get the magnifying glass!"

Oh, really? So you must've liked the extra levels and the mini-games in the 64 version. How'd you control the stylus controlled games?
Any game can be beaten in one sitting.
Good argument. The same could be said about your comments.
Again, anything can be beat in one sitting
Let's use your logic..
Ridge Racer - omg i played this game 6 years ago
Twisted Metal - omg i played this game 6 years ago
Wipeout - omg i played this game 6 years ago
Hot Shots Golf - omg i played this game a few years ago
Metal Gear Ac!d - WTF cards!?
Lumines - wow, a puzzle! that's a new concept
That sounds like someone whos never played a PSP or something...
I can understand Twisted Metal because its a refurbished TM2....but the others?
Wipeout is completely new tracks and vehicles...no different from any other sequel. Mario, Rayman and Ridge Racer DS are Complete ports with a minigame or two. And the stylus is nifty...but not as good as a analog stick.
Ridge Racer is a completely overhauled collection of the best tracks, refitted with new turns, vehicles, senory and just about everything else. It has nothing left of Ridge Racer of old except the feeling. Hows that any different from any of Nintendo's Metroid or Zelda? Same old shit, just updated graphics and control. Nintendo Innovative my ass. Get over yourself... I hear this Nintendo gimmick bullshit and just get nauseous.
Lumines - is a new game, but not a new concept. I'm talking the kind of puzzle...your stance is that its not a new fucking genre. Bold words since the NDS has like 25% puzzle games.
Metal Gear Ac!d - Is a card game, and it was a little wierd at first since I dont play anytype of role playing/CCG types of games at all. But its actually pretty novel and pretty innovative for the Metal Gear Series. It works pretty well.
And Hot Shots is a completely new fucking game. A sequal, but a new game. I have no idea how you played this years ago.
Dont get me wrong, I like the concept of the DS....but its just a fucking palm pilot without all the cool shit. Its graphics look fucking horrindous, I dont remember mario looking that shitty. And if you've had a palm pilot before you've played all those games a hundred times.
The PSP is a multitasker...it may not have a fuckload of mascots to whore out 8 times a year on shitty unfinshed games...but it is a Personal Audio, Video, gaming and image viewer... The Memory Sticks are pricey, but no one said you had to by a gig stick either. I have a $65 buck 512 and fit 10 albums (192 qual) on it with some images and one short video.
Wake me when Wario World 8 and Mario Party 11 come out, that should be this time next year right? Maybe the DS will have more than 1st party shit on it by then.
Also, you people talking total sales....lets not forget the Nintendo DS came out in Nov. Also, lets talk worldwide sales, not Japan only.

Mario 64 DS - Played it 7-8 Years ago
Feel the Magic - You can Beat it in one sitting easy
Yoshi Touch 'n' Go - Snore
Warioware - Beat it in one sitting
Polarium - Fucking horrible
Meteos (when it comes out next month) -meh
Shit, I'll keep going:
Mr driller - Neat....short as fook
Zoo Keeper - Yay! Another Bejeweled! And look! Nothings changed a bit!! Wooo!
Ridge Racer DS & Rayman DS - N64 shit pile...why did anyone even try??
Metroid - (Will it ever come out?) Not many Demos come out a year early.
Sonic - Looks cool...about as cool as Sonic Heroes did.
But its not all bad...I'm planning to buy a DS if these come out:
Advanced wars looks hot
Animal Crossing looks nice
Other colors of DS?? (Silver and barf blue sucks)
PSP on the other hand:
Ridge Racers - Badass
Twisted Metal - Pretty ok...but online - so pretty badass
Wipeout - Badass
Hot Shots Golf - Badass
Metal Gear Ac!d - Pretty awesome
Lumines - Better than any DS puzzle game.
The EA shit wasnt too hot, but I dont by thier garbage.

I've seen movies at 250-350 look pretty decent, remember the screen isnt massive.
But it is alot bigger than anything portable that you can fit in your pocket. And probably alot clearer.
Who the fuck would gather friends to watch a movie on a portable system anyways? I watched Spiderman 2 on the way to Florida and loved it. Then I caught up on the last 5 eps of X-play and 3eps of Robot Chicken.
I dont understand how Nintendo fanboys can take an added feature like full audio and video portability and turn it into such a problem....You guys act like no one has ever bought a portable DVD player or Mp3 player before.
I go jogging with my PSP straped to my lower back...but I dont freak about every scratch.
The DS, has nothing but pictochat as a useful item. Fucking yay. Personally, I've never seen anyone play a DS in public...so I wouldnt know how well that works.

The NDS has complete ports with tacked on shit....
The PSP has completely different games with a track or two in it.
Alot of those PSP games were like "Metal Gear Solid : Twin Snakes".... The boards were a little reworked, the controls were completely different, added content, complete cut scene and graphics engine overhaul, and sound was completely overhauled. But it still felt like snake and the story was pretty much the same.
Personally, I think that is a new game.....
--Ridge Racer had some classic tracks....the rest was new.
--Wipeout had some classic tracks...the rest was new.
--Twisted metal (the worst of the bunch) was a port..but at least the graphics, sound, gameplay, weapons, and connectivity play was completely overhauled. Also, the cut scenes were reworked, the music was mostly different, and the last boss was completely different. Also alot of the stories were a little tweeked. IE: it wasnt a complete port graphically and audio-wise....with a new board or two like a DS port.
Mario 64 is a complete fucking port. With a few minigames and crappy stylus control.
And yoshi?? Could Nintendo please stop using their old shit as art refrences? Four Swords was basically a fucking snes title, and so is yoshi....change the art direction for new games...it feels like capcom in here.

Define 'new' in a racing game for me.. because all the ridge racer games are the same. Mario 64 is not a complete port and that shows how much your dumbass has played it. It has new levels, characters, mini-games, stylus control, and more.. not to mention specific character puzzles.

Mario 64 adds a lot more then just simple (but very addictive) minigames. There are multiple playable characters, new "Star" missions in each world and new hidden "boss type" levels (where you rescue the other playable characters)

Oh my God they look so much the same... Did you even touch the game or are you just getting your info from the 'I love PSP and DS Sucks' website?
Really How the hell can you say Super Mario 64 DS is just a port. They updated the graphics, added new chracters. more levels and a bunch of mini games.
Wow, you know what, I have BOTH, and I like BOTH! Nintendo is great, Sony is great - or maybe they both suck, I dunno...
I have been playing nothing but Hot Shots Golf at home on my PSP (my PS2 and Gamecube ignored in favor of it in fact). (By the way, I think real golf sucks, but I love both Mario Golf and Hot Shots). Now that I'm travelling I have the DS with me and am about to get off the computer and play Mario 64. Of course it helps that I haven't played ANY of the originals for the PSP/DS rehashes - I'd never heard of Mario 64 before about 2 years ago :D.
I love Ridge Racer, Wipeout, and Untold Legends on the PSP. HEY - I also like Yoshi Touch and Go on the DS! And I have the Urbz and SW Ep III that I haven't played yet but will on my next trip. The two systems are really complimentary - there are certain games, like racing, where I feel a true analog control is necessary (thus PSP). On the other hand, the DS has unique games that can't be duplicated on the PSP because of the stylus - and I feel as time goes by there will be even more innovative use of it. Doesn't the Kirby game come out next week? I have that preordered at GR - can't wait till I can get home and pick that up.
I have to admit - I feel the PSP is too expensive/delicate to take out of the house, so I probably won't travel with it for a while. The DS seems more sturdy. Plus it is pretty sweet that I can have both Mario 64 on and Minish Cap in the system at the same time - increases the portability factor by a bunch (besides the Logitech case I have nothing to put the PSP and games in).
However, I did buy a 512 MB stick for the PSP and plan to put a bunch of photos on it, and also squeeze on a movie or a few TV shows, and maybe a few MP3's.
Eventually I'll probably end up alternating the 2 on trips...
BACK TO THE TOPIC - Obviously Animal Crossing will come out - isn't their whole DS online rollout planned around it? If it lives up to its billing, it may be enough to prompt me to buy a SECOND DS, in fact. That way me and one of the kids (or 2 of the kids) can play together. It would be great if they came out with an Animal Crossing/Electric Blue DS bundle - that would cinch it for me! Many people on here seem to think they will not lower the price any time soon, but bundle it with a game - hopefully that game won't be Mario 64, but something new (AC or Mario Kart, please!).

The first console I bought of this gen is my Gamecube...which I still have. I play Donkey konga 1,2 or JB with my girlfriend every other night.
I bought Warioware Twisted the day it came out. And I'll admit that it was innovative...
The first portable I bought was a Gameboy Advance, then I bought a Gameboy SP. But I've yet to buy a DS, because the games dont really entice me yet.
I own a PSP and PS2.
I got rid of my xbox.
I own maybe 15 games at most with all systems and I work 60+ hours a week and when I have time I play World Of Warcraft.
But yeah....Im a "fanboy"
--------------------------------------
Its funny to see you guys freak out and nit pick on the smallest , trival shit to win an arguement for your beloved Nintendo. Meanwhile they gank you with reinventing the wheel everytime a hot game comes out, and if its a side game its based of a set of 15 hot characters.
I just find Nintendos motives rediculous.
You know what is the number one selling game on the gamecube in america? "super smash brothers"
But do you get more SSBM?? No....because nintendo could give two fucks about america. But they'll release 80 Mario Parties and because MP6 has a gimmick packaged with it, its innovative. Well, Seaman had a mic....THAT was innovative.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has been doing just about everything american gamers want...but the Nintendo Fanboys say Bill is evil. Cool....cause the sequel to Halo or Mechassault came 2-3 years later. But its ok for Nintendo churn out 5 sequels in a generation of gaming. They're innovative!!
Get off your high horse and look around, nintendo doesnt give a fuck about you....we get Japanese shit scrapings from them. Ported games that came out 7-8 months earlier in Japan. Yeah, MS is evil....Sony is Evil....
Nintendo is fisting you just like Sega used to....any you guys eat that shit up.

PS: That mario DS image still looks like 64 with maybe an effect or two difference. New player models....I was thinking more of an overhaul...not an added effect or two.

I think Metroid Prime 3 is also slated for a GC release and DK has three games. But other than those 4, most Nintendo franchises make only one or two appearances every generation. On the other hand most franchises this generation have been getting sequels every year. Tony Hawk is about to have his 5th game this generation. There will also be 5 Onimusha games before the end of this console cycle as well as 5 007 games. There will be 4 Jak games, 4 Rachet and Clank games, 4 Burnout games, and 4 NFS games. So I hardly think Nintendo is the most serious offender in this respect.
Also in regards to MS and Sony being evil, I think most people criticize MS for their OS and business pratices, and Sony for releasing faulty/unreliable hardware. It really doesn't have much to do with games.
Everyone needs to relax with the system to system comparisons and complaining. The truth is people like what they like. I end up usually sticking up for Nintendo because I feel like they get a bum rap most of the time. The Gamecube is such a great system but a lot of people can't see past the initial impression it made. I was really hesitant about the DS but after playing the games Nintendo has taken something old (touch screen) and along with the software made it something new. Even if you fucking hate the system I'm sure you haven't seen anything like Pac-Pix anywhere else. I was also hesitant about the PSP but the screen is amazing for a handheld. While I don't use the multimedia extras it is a nice bonus for those that take advantage of it. If you like the PS2 you will like the PSP and that is what Sony is shooting for.
Believe me I don't agree with everything that Nintendo does....especially the whoring out of Mario. I mean do we really need Mario Baseball, Mario DDR, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario Soccer? They could make the same games with different or new characters. Why not just make Nintendo Golf and add a bunch of characters like SSBM?
The truth is all of our systems have taken what works for them and used it over and over again. Microsoft has Halo, Nintendo has Mario + Zelda, and the PS2 has Jak + Ratchet. The PSP and the DS both have old games made into a new package. It just really comes down to what you want to play. I have a PS2 and a Cube....along with a DS and a PSP. What I can't get with one I get with the other.
I think I'm going to do less sticking up\ complaining and more gaming. :)

Yea, personally I feel that I'm a "fanboy" for gaming in general...I want to see them all succeed and change the face of gaming...the gamepad can really only last so long...
I think my biggest argument is against everyone blindly sticking up for nintendo, just because they're the underdog in America.
I love nintendo, they game me my first console and portable, and they'll probably make my last...but I just hate the hype.
I really dont see what so revelutionary about the revelution...everyone talks like its gonna be a vr headset and vr gloves....but, if its going to have old games on it....it probably is gonna have an old gamepad style with maybe one thing like a gyroscope.
I'm ready for the change!! And I kinda feel let down by Nintendo again....MS and Sony dont make BS promises as much as Nintendo...so I dont feel too let down. Personally, I'd like to see the Big "N" on top again...but that is coming to be something that will never be. Sales are doing good now, but the lack of real innovation for gimmicks is going to make them another Sega.
I'll be really sad to see them go.

I would recommend playing the Harvest Moon series if you are more into having goals. If you want more freeform play, I would suggest Animal Crossing. There are some "goals" you can achieve in AC, but you are just "living" in the town for the most part.
BTW, I am basing these comments on Harvest Moon: It's a Wonderful Life for GC which is the only HM game I have played. That game has definite goals that you need to reach, I'm not sure about the other HM games.

Do people really enjoy those life simulator games like the Sims, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing?
The Sims is the number one selling game of all time for the PC....surpisingly.
I'm sure Animal Crossing has to be in the top 10 for the gamecube.
People like these games, but I play them like a set of dominoes...I set them up nicely just to watch them fall when I take away or add key components.

i stick up for nintendo because they get discriminatly attacked for "milking" franchises while other gaming companies (that do it WAY more) do not.
i love sony, my sony to nintendo ratio (for games owned) it prolly 7:1! but im a huge believer in judging a game for what it is and not what came before or after it.
ms i dont like, but thats just how i feel about them in general, i dont go around bashing them every chance i get, im perfectly fine with them existing and me ignoring them, which it seems you should do with the ds, as it seems to piss you off way more than a game system should.

It's probably just been pushed back. I wouldn't trust anything a game store says as cut and dry. Final Fantasy III though... hey, if they cancel it for the DS, and release it for the GBA like I think they oughta', that'd be just fine too... ehehehe. Everyone's happy then =)

Harvest Moon for the GBA is a must have. I bought it for $30 when it came out. Then i was pissed when EB had the game and the cow for $20.
I want that Cow!!!

I think they are just delaying the big titles till the holiday season arives, DS's will sell a bit when the holiday spirit is high again. As will some PSPs, if Sony puts out bigger titles around Xmas.

Especially when you consider the primary oft cited failing in their Gamecube launch was not taking a major pull on the franchise teat.

Its funny, we get a great post, only a few replies. When a moron hears a 'rumor', everyone reads and posts.

Japan, the company has two Online compatible titles planned for the end of 2005, Mario Kart DS and Animal Forest.
if Animal Forest is Animal crossing in USA i dont expect to see animal crossing out before the end of 2005 if they are planned to hit by the end of 2005. I still say we wont get animal crossing till Spring/summer 2006
