MILFORD, Conn. - The Subway restaurant chain said Thursday it is ending its decades-old free sandwich promotion, amid concerns that counterfeiters have been creating and selling copies of the restaurant's proof-of-purchase stamps and cards.

Umm, lemme guess, you had those stamps and went there for free huh?

that sucks.. i loved getting a free sandwich everymonth (i'd order about one 12 in a week so yeah.. ).. they say they'll start another similar promotion.. i liked the card where you got the stamps "loaded" onto your card.. possibly that is what is going to replace it.

Subway is good, but a tad expensive for the truly cheap.

While Subway is way overpriced ($5 for a Veggie Delite 12" here, which is absolutely INSANE for a stupid veg sandwich), I enjoy it. Damn cheaters ruining it for all of us.

Why not just use hole-punch cards with custom punches?

I only go on Tuesdays (at least if I'm paying). $2.99 for a footlong? I'm there. 8-)

That blows. I have a full card too. Is there a specific date they are ending this so I can hurry up and go use it? (didn't see it in the article) Great example of how people can spoil deals for other people.

That would probably be a good idea... I think Qdoba had those swipey cards.

Yeah I agree, Quizno's is ridiculous.
But it's actually edible when compared to Subway. There are some good coupons that come in the mailers for Quizno's...Makes it much more worth it instead of having to go to subway and pay $4 for a sub with one slice of turkey in it.

Yes I work at Quizno's, and it seriously is ridiculous how much some of the stuff costs. The only way I buy anything there is because I get everything half off, with free drinks, etc. I consider that to be a reasonable price, but there's no way I would pay like $6-7 for a 9" sub. I can get some decent 6" for under $2 with my discount, but I'm too cheap to spring for the more expensive ones.

I heard rumors that Subway is going to test out a electronic card program where you get a card that collects points that you can use towards free food. Again, just a rumor at this point but I do hope it comes true. I actually like that idea better than the stamps - no need to keep track of the stamps, the card goes right in your wallet with your other cards, etc etc etc.

I can understand why Subway is ending the stamps program. A punch hole program wouldn't work very well either as people can simply take a bunch of cards home, punch hole them and forge employee signatures on them then go to another location and use it there.

Anyone else see that episode of King of Queens where Arti was running the pretzel place in the mall? He started the free pretzel promotion, and just put a check on the cards. Kids were lining up to redeem their free pretzels. :-P

Funny you mention that - one of the major grocery stores in my area, Cub Foods, is actually doing a test program with using your fingerprint for accepting payments. I'll have to get a photo of what the machine looks like but its damn strange out of all places the grocery store I go to is getting to test this stuff out.

Hole punches are a danger to the workplace, hence all penises must be tucked away properly.

Eh, at least Quizno's tastes good as opposed to the slimy crap they pass off as meat at Subway, and their subs are a lot wider than Subway's.

i'm pretty sure all the subways around here stopped the "sub club" stamp promotion about 6 months ago.

it's ok, though. lately i've been a big fan of jimmy john's subs. they aren't largest, but they always manage to fill me up, and they are pretty darn good to boot.

The Subway near my office put up notices about this in late March. The end date varies from location to location, but for me it's early August.

I eat there just about every day. Six inch combo for less than $5 is right up my aley.

Quizno's Black Angus Steak on Rosemary Parmesan Bread kicks the shit out of anything on Subway's menu (or Quizno's own menu). It's sooo good.

Also, Quizno's always has on-line coupons available plus a hole-punch or stamp program (forget which one). My favorite online coupon was when they offered $2 off any reg or large sub...used that one a ton. Right now the online coupon is for a free drink (try their Raspberry Lemonade) and chips with a reg or large sub.

I used to work at Subway. I loved eating there for free everyday. I was a night manager and could give anyone anything I wanted ... it was great.

But yeah, it's overpriced. The Sub Club Cards weren't such a great deal anyway; if the employee did it right, it's NOT a free sandwich -- it's only a free sandwich if you buy a medium drink. So technically you're still paying $1.29 (the price at our store at the time). I guess that's okay.

But after working at Subway I'd definitely say Quiznos outdoes them. More expensive, but better quality. Everything at Subway is turkey based. I was working there whenever Jared was just discovered .. actually met him when he did his "Subway Tour" across the states. Lame.

Anyway I'm rambling.

I used to work for Shit-way for years and they've always talked about getting rid of the stamps. I understand why though, everyweek we'd get a new bulliten about stolen stamps. The last one I managed had some jackass take the machine and all right off the counter. I told my boss that just leaving it lay there was a bad idea.

As far as the swipe card, last I heard they couldn't get the right prices for the equipment that they wanted. The new pos machines are set up for it but need new software.

Lastly, you CAGs that say you wish this deal or that deal would come back, tell your local Shit-way manager. Every location can run specials independent of the corporate ones. Enough push and you might get your favorite deal and subs back. And no matter what they tell you, they can make a damn chicken pizziola for you....

P.S. Fuck Jared...

Throw in some pepperoni and tomatoes and you basically got it. Of course I like to add parmesan, black olives, and onions to complete the sandwich. Damn, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it...

Well, I have them leave the tomatoes off and add parmesan and oregano. So it ends up as chicken, marinara, provolone cheese, parmesan, and oregano on Italian herbs & cheese bread. I usually have them stick the whole thing in the microwave so that the cheese is good and melted too. It's a great sandwich, but none of the Subways in my area will make it anymore. For a while, they'd still make it even though it wasn't on the menu anymore, but a few months ago, they all just stopped making it period. I really miss that tasty sandwich.

I remember the Chicken Pizziola. And just like others, only one Subway in town still offers it. Unfortunately, that location is out of the way for me. That was a good sandwich.

Quizno's is awesome. Definitely on the expensive side, but awesome. The program that they run is the stamp card deal. They stamp your card for every $5 you spend in the store. When you fill the card, it acts as a $5 gift certificate. Not a bad deal. The coupons they have online are nice as well.
