Just looking to finally get the fuck out of my mother's house. For those that have been here long enough to read a lot of my posts, you know some of the problems that I've been going through due to my stepfather. So anyways, any one know of any good house searching websites?

Seriously get a realtor. As the purchaser it doesn't cost you a cent. The only person who pays for their services is the Seller.

I used http://www.mibor.com/ But this is for Indy. I'm sure every major city has something like this.

The seller has to pay a lot of money to your realtor if you are the
buyer though. You might be able to negotiate a lower price without a realtor.
Otherwise there is no downside to having an agent.

Check out MSN.com, they have some good home listings there under the "House and Home" category. Also, sign up at justlisted.com, lots of good homes there sent via email daily.

Your local region should have a site. Our area does, and it isn't very big at all. Also, there's a couple of local real estate shows on TV here. You might want to check your local listings to see if you have something similar.

And finally, check newspaper stands for free real estate magazines or "for sale by owner" circulars.

Try the grocery stores in the area. They usually have free books with listing of home and cars for sale. The newspaper classified section can have a lot, though in my area, usually only one day has the full classifieds with the full car and home sections.

This site (http://$$$$$$$$$$$$/7z7m2) has a listing of seized real estate auctions from the US Dept. of Treasury. You might be able to find something depending on where you live. I just included that link for fun, but you might find something.

Also try http://www.craigslist.org/. It is a big classified section for cities across the country. The right side of the site has a list of all the cities it covers. It is mainly big cities, with a few in Canada.

I hope you have good luck in finding something.

As others suggested, Realtor.com is very helpful. Between that web site and the real estate agent that I got hooked up with, everything went fine.
