...tend to screw them up quicker, faster, harder.

In this case, my girlfriend.

She has been addicted to Ratchet and Clank lately. She wrenches on the analog stick like it *needs* to be pressed hard into the sidewall, and it wears the plastic down on the stick a bit. It's a little rough going around the top edge now. The X button grinds against the top edge as well.

I'm so fucking pissed off.

Another case, a friend of mine who bought a PS2 and then sold it to someone three months later. Then he bought an Xbox and sold it two months later. I saw one of his controllers... greasy, greasy, mother fuck-ing greasy.

I'm going to go insane! AUuUGHHHhghhh!

I know what you mean. I payed good money for my stuff, and want it to stay in mint condition. It all goes back to nintendo when people would have to jump because they made mario jump. you know what Im talking about right?

My girlfriend's not very hard on the controllers, but that's probably because I *try* to get her to go easy. I try to teach her methods for keeping things minty mint. But if I have to sacrifice a controller or two for her to grasp the concept - fair enough, I have dozens anyway.

My college roommate last year was playing my cube with her bf (who is a regular gamer; she however isn't). I remember how angry I got when mid-game she threw my controller in aggravation against the bureau (where the TV was resting on). Left a small dent on the controller, and I of course said something to her and she was no longer allowed to play. I, too, want my stuff in as near mint condition as possible. I take care of my things, and it disgusts me when people totally disregard what isn't their's.

Then again, if Sony/Nintendo/MS would make controllers more solidly, it wouldn't be as much of an issue. I recall getting playing Robotron and Qix on the Atari 5200, and flinging those controllers across the room. They still worked....Same with the 2600 controllers.
Granted, the controllers are fancier and have more technology to them nowadays.

I let a a friend borrow my copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for the PSX a few years back, and when I got it back, it had smeared fingerprints all over the disc and the top looked like someone had spilled a soda on it. He claimed his girlfriend was responsible. I was pissed.

OMG that is the worst. Do people eat watermellon while playing their xbox or something ? Geez what is wrong with some people.

ITs called washing your hands. I guess people fail to do that every once and a while which is why they have greasy hands

I am the same way. No one ever gets to use my wavebird(platinum one since I got a second), DC arcade stick, Japanese controller S for Xbox and so on.

I was trying to remember when I posted. I'm pretty sure it was Super Smash Bros. Melee, since she really only played that and like her Mario Party game. Anything more complicated than mini-games, she usually wouldn't play. Apparently "too hard" for her.

I'm anal about almost everything I own, they have to be in mint condition.

The xbox controller S is getting to me though. After playing many hours of Top Spin, the 4 "dots" on the left analog stick are wearing and it's bothering the hell out of me. I have to switch between 2nd and 1st controller every now and then to keep things as mint as possible.

I take good care of my systems and games. Controllers are a different story. Me and my friends are very competitive and often play multiplayer games for cash. Frequently controllers are thrown to the floor in disgust and many times thrown with the intention to break it. So it's kind of like bring your own controller when we get together. If they don't and use one of mine and break it ...... full reimbursement is expected.

On the other hand - I buy so much shit I never get full use out of it.
Just recently i brought Reident evil - outbreak, It's still in the ebagames bag somewhere in my car. I got it the day it came out! what's it been 3 weeks? by the time I get around to playing it it'll be 2 months old... by the time i play it the second time... I'm mad I brought it. I played Socom 2 twice! I got that the week it came out. sometimes i say they will be nice to have in the future. AS IF games wont be holographic by then and would be interested in playing some old bBS flat image game in 2015!

but i dont get my stuff greasy... thats sounds like murder music.

I was playing PS2 over a friend's house... when I felt something nasty on the controller.. whatever it was I flicked it off... it looked like bacon, or an old used bandaid... that forever became the 'bacon controller' and I never played with it again... shortly after he got another controller.
Hmm bacon.

Me too.

I used to make people wear cotton gloves when they played my video games, but I got over my germaphobia a few months ago.

lol I think bacon wouldn't be too bad. It could have been much worse, hehe

one thing ive always thoughht about (because i have nothing better to contemplate) is how quickly people can adapt to the new controllers. I started on atari joysticks, got a nes pad, then geneses (more buttons), then saturn (3d!), then N64 (3d! more buttons! looks like a lovers lane toy!) and now xbox/ps2/gc...they evolved while i grew up.

Now kids and newbs are walking into 12 button, dual sticked, pressure sensitive, rumbling peices of work. Without starting to play nes/snes/gen first...how the hell do you just jump into that?

I just brought my cube down to Madison when I visited a couple of buddies of mine. They thought I was pretty anal when I made them wash their hands before they could play (we were eating at the time). Also, I made sure I did all of the disk switching...no fingerprints here!

I hear you on the whole starting out with 12 button controllers. I'm glad that my childhood occurred during the days of the NES.

Yes, I know what you mean... in college Super Mario Kart races on my SNES were all the rage on my Dorm floor. Unfortunately one of the punk asses lost his race and threw one of the controllers on the floor. The Select button is screwed up on the controller permantely now... :(

I would have bought a new one back then but he had promised to replace it!....

Yeah, me too! I played my DC a lot back in the day, and my controllers were a littlle worn out, so when I had guests over who were actually interested in playing, they got the special, practically-brand-new controller I never used myself.

I'm not saying that I treat my controller with ginger and loving condition, but certainly a hell of a lot better then my BF. When he gets upset at a game he just throws his damn controller across the room. He already has a nice lovely crack down it and I just don't say a word. I mean i get upset but god damn. If you can't control your anger like that well I just don't know. But yeah I like to keep my controllers in mint condition as much as possible and grinding down on the buttons will wear them out quicker which will need replacing soon which is costly $$$ which i can't really afford to blow when i could be spending on .. CHEAP ASS GAMES!

That's the exact same reason I don't let people borrow any of my games or systems they have no respect . I wouldn't even let my own brother borrow My GBA SP because I know he would have screwed it all up .

Also another thing I can't fucking stand is when someone is done playing with one of my video game systems and they wrap the cord all around the controller and leave it that way .Then the next time I go to play with a game the controller cord is a tangled up mess .

I hate playing SC2 with my cousins since they feel they must mash the buttons and sticks like crazy. As for them getting dirty, rubbing alcohol is your best friend. I am not completely innocent though, I got so pissed at Ninja Gaiden, I threw my controller down on the ground, it bounced up a good 3 feet, and completely stopped working.

I can understand the case for keeping your stuff in excellent condition, but I can't see flipping out on your girlfriend. seriously, which is worse:
A. Having to buy another copy of Super Mario Sunshine
B. Getting mad at her and not getting laid for a good 2 weeks?

Think about that one.

You're dead on about the 2600 controllers. I remember those suckers would continue working like a charm even after the rubber covering the stick (yeah that's right) had worn off. So you'd be playing with just the naked white plastic joystick. Ah man that brings me back.

Personally I usually let the guests use my two nice S controllers and I take one of my two crappier off-brand extra controllers (got them Free after rebate though ) I'm just a saint like that. Also, I don't want them to be able to use that as an excuse when I kick their ass. I actually had one (who bought an Xbox at launch and therefore is used to the duke) complain that the S controller was junk compared to the original and that's why they couldn't compete
