Seeing as how it takes place in the same setting, and time as the craptacular Suikoden 4 I'll probably be passing. At the most I'll be waiting for the bargain bin.
I'm a huge Suikoden fan, but 4 almost completely destroyed that.

So far I'm liking IV, even though it is a bit generic. But when you think about it, Suikoden has always had a generic style, besides the 108 characters. But that's what made me love it, so I'm enjoying IV. I fucking hated III though.
That said, I'm looking forward to Suikoden Tactics. Seems like a cool idea.

Tactical RPG's are the only games I've paid full price for (I'm a CAG by birth :)). If this game gets good reviews I will definitely pick it up.
I wonder how they will fit 108 characters into a SPRG though?
Man too bad the last 2 suikoden were so bad

This has been done before.. Super Robot Wars has a good number of characters in it, I know it's at least over 50. Basacially there's lots of selection, and you have alot of choices on who to use.
It's definately a good thing, as scenarios can be finished different ways with different people, and you don't have to use the characters that you hate.
With three main characters, I got a feeling the story will be like Suikoden 3... three characters have their seperate stories, and all come together at the end.

I havent played Suiko 4 yet, but i'll get to it eventually (its $30 bucks now, I see it $20 in the near future..even maybe @ $10!) . I like Suikoden 1,2 and 3..yes 3 is very different from the first 2 but I still love it. Suikoden Tactics sounds great, if it gets great review I wont hesitate to get it at full price, and the screenshots looks better than the normal SRPG sprites that we are used to.

just cause it has the settings of 4 doesn't mean it's going to be similar to 4. It's probably going to be vastly different thatn any Suikoden before. I think it will be unique and I truly can't wait to hear more on it. (I was hoping for a PSP Suikoden game, personally)

Everything about S4 was bad. Location, characters, battle, story... the mini battles were ok...

I've played more of Suikoden IV, and I still don't see what all the fuss about it being horrible is about. Yeah, it's not great, but it's still pretty damn good. It might not live up to the Suikoden name after playing I and II, but I'm still enjoying it. The fact that the boats move slowly and get attacked a lot is a bit annoying, but nothing too serious. We'll see as it goes along what I think.

I'd say its mediocre for an RPG. Its absolutely abyssmal for a Suikoden game.

Eh, I still like it better than 3. I refuse to completely believe III is a Suikoden game. They took everything I liked about Suikoden (108 characters who are, for the most part, all interesting; six actual party members, none of that team shit; having a real main character; etc) and raped it up the ass. Granted, IV has it's share of these problems, but it fixes some of the things I hated most about III, mainly the Trinity Sight System and the Trinity Battle System. The only thing so far I'm really disliking besides the boat traveling is the fact that there's only four party members, and so far Team Attacks aren't that useful or prevelant so far. We'll see as I play more.

Team attacks are only unlocked after you win 10 fights with people that have a team attack to unlock. You don't get any acknowlegement before hand though.
Use gamefaqs or something to find combos.

I see. That's interesting. Thanks for telling me. I'm gonna have to look this up. My friend and I used to make our parties based upon team attacks...Though I'm still mad at Mukumuku and his friends for THE most useless team attack:
"All five of us are gonna take care of ONE bad guy!!!! YAY!!!!!!!"
"Guys...That's leaving me by myself to take on five of them....Guys?"
Damn squirrels!

Glad to see im not the only one that has (so far) enjoyed IV more then III. I just can't get into III at all, mainly because of the battle system, and I got III at first when 3d was such a huge transition from 2d, and I couldn't stand it. Now obviously I played and beat IV, and thought it was OK and got over the fact it was 3d.

I will buy this just because it has Suikoden in the title, well I'm assuming it will if it comes to the US. I've loved all the games regardless of others distates for the PS2 games(and I did start with the original a little before II came out) so hey why not? I have an extreme dislike of SRPGs but my love for Suikoden wins out.

I found another minor thing about IV that I dislike. What's with a lot of the towns having random battles in them? Who thought that was a good idea to greenlight? When I enter a town, I don't want to have to worry about getting into fights. That just detracts from it. Why aren't all the other people outside dealing with fucking rodents attacking them?
I also really can't wait for my ship to be my base, if only so I don't have to float ALL the way back to Obel to change my party. I really want to put Mitsuba in my party, but it's not worth shipping all the way back down to Obel and then have to go all the way back north to Nay.

Gameplay-wise, IV beats III hands down. But III creams IV in the setting and storytelling department. IV's background story really doesn't contribute to the overal Suikoden saga. War between island nations down south, big fucking deal.

You get to warp again, and party changing is managed from your ship... but its still tedius. So is equiping people. Suikoden 1... or 2... or both... let you manage people not in your party... in 4 you have to have someone in your party to give them items... its obnoxious. I only wound up using 10 or so people.

I'm not really big into Tactic games, but If the Suikoden title is in it I'll give it a shot. I find alot of joy seeing characters from previous games return, I just like the world Suikoden creates.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure both let you do that. I remember it cause I remember stripping people of runes so I could make Killey into the ultimate badass he was meant to be. I'd love for some game to touch more on the Sindar. I always thought Killey's story involving the Sindar seemed pretty cool, but they never went more into it.

Can you just imagine 108 characters fighting on screen?
That'd be awesome.
Of course all those random support characters would prolly get killed in a second.
But still.

I'm guessing that the story takes place after the events of Suikoden IV. The characters kinda look like the Suikoden III models.

It looks interesting. I'm glad to see a SRPG try the cel-animation approach.
Judging from the screenshots it looks like it will be a grid-less battle field similar to Arc the Lad. Those crates in the second picture look destroyable. I hope the final build will have more then 2 objects per battle though.
It would have been nice to see pictures of 108 characters in a battle at the same time but no such luck. Maybe that's just wishful thinking anyways.

Hopefully this game is decent and makes it to our shores. The look reminds me a little of Tales of Symphonia, which is OK in my book.
Now that I've finished IV, I take back most of the bad things I said about it. I really enjoyed the last 20 hours or so, after I found out holding R1 makes you sail about eight times as fast (and run in "fast forward")... I still think III was much better, but IV isn't nearly as bad as most people make it out to be. Even with its flaws, it's a step above most RPGs from this generation.

I saw that too but other gaming news sites haven't posted any US release date yet... seems like Konami should have let the bag out by now.
You can't even preorder it at EB or GS yet, kind of odd for a game coming out in 3-months... Hope IGN's info is accurate.

I can't imagine this will be out here by November, especially if it's going to have voice acting. Two-to-three months seems like a pretty tight window.
