If anyone knows of a public domain / high-quality bootleg release of "The Stepfather", please let me know! It's only available in the UK due to some bizarre licensing issues.

I'm a big fan of acting god Terry O'Quinn and I needs me some twisted character study thriller fun.

I've only gotten a chance to see a nugget of this underrated and overlooked gem during the days of when Cinemax was the shit. Amazing acting from O'Quinn. I hope if somebody can aide my quest in finding this treasure, all will purchase it and be amazed.

The Stepfather II is available in the US on DVD at Amazon. Not as good as the first (screenplay-wise), but the acting is great and the movie is pretty good overall (thanks to O'Quinn).

And on a side note, look how mucht the shitty cash-in "The Stepfather 3" VHS, minus O'Quinn, is on Amazon.com. I almost fell out of my chair:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6302499615/102-2168140-6139344

$83.68? $92.98 list price? Incredible.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Do you have a DVD-ROM in your computer? You could buy the UK DVD, and run a program like DVD Region Free (unfortunately costs money to register, I don't know of a free alternative), that'll let you watch UK DVDs without a problem.

There's always the combination of DVD decrypter + DVD shrink; unfortunately the author of DVD decrypter was intimidated by the movie studios (UK has laws as terrible as the US) and is no longer offering the software, but I'm sure some places like mrbass.org still carry a recent version.

You can use that to create a copy of the DVD that is region free. Of course, something like this is illegal in the U.S.

You can send me an SASE if you want to borrow it from me for awhile. I have an old VHS copy (real, not taped off TV).

Thanks, guys. I didn't think of copying the DVD... I'd have to have my video editing instructor at the college do it for me (as I don't have a burner). Gotta wait 'til next semester, though.

I'll probably just buy the UK DVD, copy it and slap the copy in the case and I'll still be able to display it neatly on my entertainment center. ;)

What's a SASE? And I appreciate the offer... I just need to know what it was. :B

Regardless, getting the VHS is my last resort, sadly... I really wanted the DVD (as I have OCD, especially with collecting). I really appreciate the offer, though.

If anyone else was looking, I finally found somebody on eBay selling public domain DVD transfers of The Stepfather on DVD with a keep case, cover artwork and disc artwork for $9.99.

My life is complete... for the time being.

As amazon explains: "It was priced by the studio for the rental market. The price often drops to under $30 within 6 months of its video release date."

In other words, the studio is selling this video to rental joints like Blockbuster & since the studio knows BB is rich, they are grabbing as much money as possible = ~$90.00. I've seen this many, many times.
