View Full Version : Will Riviera: The Promised Land become rare?

It seems to me that it has the whole "soon to be rare" vibe. The game itself looks pretty good, plus it's made by Atlus. Should I get it, just incase it gets hard to come by in the future?

not EVERYTHING they put out is rare though is it? Stella Deus and Samurai Western dont look like they're going to go anywhere anytime soon.

Very few GBA games are 'rare'. The only ones I can think of are the last two Castlevanias, and doom's, but even then, you can still buy them for very close to their original MSRP.

That's what I thought about Way of the Samurai 2.

Truth.

I've yet to see any GBA game ever eclipse it's MSRP.

It is not made by Atlus, they are only the publisher. Sting is the developer, and they are know for the Evolution series. If you look at past Atlus GBA RPGs, Tactics Orge became rare, and the Shining games are not that easy to find. On the other hand the Demi kids game are easier to find. Would you be able to get this online in the future? probably. Would you be able to find it in a B&M store? Not likely.

The Castlevanias are not even close to being rare.....maybe on Mars.

used they are not that hard to find. A bit harder if you need complete or new.

Last I checked (a day or two ago), the official site wasn't set up for the game on Atlus' site...So is this another strategy-RPG?

The last 2 Castlevania games are rare because they are out of print. You can most likely easily find a used copy but a NEW one is hard to come by. Circle of the Moon can be found everywhere. Harmony of Dissonance is RARE....if you can find a place that has them new and sealed let me know. I'm glad I got mine when I did. Aria of Sorrow is rare but I've seen it floating around here and there still. Ninja Five-O is on the rare side as well. All great games by the way.

At the moment. Samurai Western I'm sort of iffy on whether or not it will become rare, look at most Atlus Action games (i.e. Galleon, etc.) since they don't really become hard to come by. Stella Deus looks to be a classic RPG of theirs that falls directly into the mold they have cast for their games; first it will sell, then it won't sell too much/well, and then bam out of no where demand will be high for it and there won't be enough supply.

I personally am picking up Riviera the moment the game comes out and not because it is rare or anything like that. The game just looks awesome to me especially for a game boy game. I'm a pretty big Atlus fanboy, but their past GBA games were fun but never did the trick for me like their console games. I'm hoping this changes that because from all I've read of it, it sounds great. Also, I need something to occupy my time and a new GBA game for my DS:D

Investing in games is stupid. That said, if you are worried about not being able to find a copy of a game you really want to play then yes grab it now before it's gone.

I think Atlus has used this approach now to bolster sales. It seems most people will buy ANYTHING that has Atlus on it, simply because "it could get rare and expensive", without knowing anything about the game. This way, Atlus can put subpar games out at times, and know that the collectors will snatch it up based on investing, and not on actual gameplay.

I wonder how many blind purchases of Riviera there will be, or how many people will buy it and never get around to it?

It's too late in the GBA's life cycle for gamers to go out and do that. They are busy focusing on their other portables and consoles. It overpowers the "Atlus rarity" hype. I definitely know what you mean though. It seems like way too many people bought SMT for it's potential rarity as opposed to it's good gameplay/story.

The newest Nintendo Power gave this game a 6.5, under the headline "unfullfilled promise"

I might be one of those people...I did finish SMT Nocturne, but those strat RPGs are just sitting on my shelf. I really want to play them, but it's such a commitment. I'll probably play Disgaea and forget about the other 2.

I'll probably pick up this game since EBGames has it listed as shipping today. It looks nice and I always have room for another Atlus RPG.

I bought it just because it looked like a damn good game. I could see it going the way of Tactics Ogre, but it would be kind of silly just to buy it for its potential rarity.

I'm pulling for Fry's to have it for cheap since they've been good in the past on Atlus game deals.

I hate when people buy games because they think they are going to be "rare" in the future. Those people should save their money, and let people who actually want to play the game, buy it for themselves. I will probably be picking this game up because it looks really good. I just hope its as fun as it looks.
