I'm in Bangkok and will be in Hong Kong and Tokyo in a month
how do i tell knock off games from real ones? Are there things I should be looking to get here that I can't in the states?

As long as you aren't buying GBA games on the street you should be ok for not finding bootlegs in Hong Kong. If you want a flash cart, thats one thing that is very tough to get in the states. The one everyone was selling three months ago was the supercard, which works fine for me, no problems. It should be about 300 HK, any more and they might be charging foreigner tax. If you like rhythm games and have room in your suitcase pick up a pair of drums and two guitars for 40 dollars.
