I just got Live via a 2 month trial card and now I'm looking to get a headset so that I can hear my opponent whenever I play online. Should I just get an official MS headset new or used or is there a third party headset that's pretty good for a cheap price? I can go up as high as $30, but I'd rather stay under $20 if I can.

If you don't plan on playing much, just try to get the MS one for cheap. It's OK, but tends to break easily and can get uncomfortable after a few hours. If you plan on playing alot and don't mind the price, the Plantronics X20 is wonderful, and retails for $30. You'll still need the puck though (it's the piece that fits into the XB controller), but you can probably find one of those for relatively cheap.

I paid $25 for the official one at Best Buy after the GGC. That was the cheapest that I could find it.. but it comes with the actual communicator, which you have to have in order to use any headset, and the Microsoft headset.

Isn't the MS one made by plantronics too?

I don't like the MS one that much, because it wraps behind the back of your head, and when you want to lean your head back on either the couch, or head rest, you can't because it pushes the set off your ears and makes it so you can't use it... Rather annoying if you as me...

I believe so. I described it that way since most people identify it as being the "official" headset.

And yes, very annoying. The X20 (and Halo model) simply clip to your ear, so they don't obstruct your head in any way. I've played marathon sessions with the X20 and have never felt the fatigue I felt when using the MS headset.

Okay. I'll probably head to EB or GS and see if they have used MS headsets for cheap. If not, I may spring for the X20 as it does seem much more comfortable. Thanks.

If your local EB still has them the R63 with headset should be 19.99. Its the only headset I use.
