As soon as it hits $99, I'm buying. :P

Yeah I would get one too. I don't think it will ever hit $99 though. That would mean Microsoft taking a 67% loss on all X-boxes sold.

yeah, I know. I might be better off waiting until xbox2 if it is going to be backwards compatible

No Harddrive means no backwards compatibility.

Probably fall to about that price 5 or 6 months before Xbox 2...then again it depends on what the competition does as well.

No Harddrive means no backwards compatibility. That wouldn't be much of an issue. Storage is storage - it doesn't matter if it's an 8gb HDD or 8gb of flash memory. There's nothing definite on the presence/absence of a HDD anyway.
A different cpu or graphics architecture is the real hurdle.

Actually I'm always under the impression that many games rly on the HDD to make them work properly and at the speed they do. For an example, play RE Outbreak with the HDD and then without....there's a big difference in speed.

Actually microsoft is working on something to be a hard drive but a memory card...they lose SO much money because they have a HDD and they cant afford to do it again. I know your thinking this multi trillion dollar industrie cant afford to lose money? well they XBOX part of microsoft is totally different from the others...Therefor doesnt have the same cashola...Microsoft bought a emulation software company (the one that made Virtual PC for Mac) so that they can infact immulate an xbox without being backwards compatible...Learn your facts bub

It depends if you like the green or not. The bundle, at $169.99, is actually $10 cheaper than buying the regular Xbox ($149.99) and Halo at MSRP ($29.99). If you get one from BB or CC, make sure to grab one of the Tetris Worlds/Clone Wars discs. I don't know for sure that you'll get it free without a hassle, but they keep telling us that it is meant to be given away with a new Xbox, so they should let you have it.
And yes, Xbox will be $99 someday, probably just to clear out stock after they stop making them.

ofcourse xbox will b $99 someday, maybe not soon but someday. most past consoles can b found for under $50 nowadays. ill definetly b getting one if it drops that low b4 xbox 2 comes out, not much point in getting it afterwards if xbox 2 is backwards compatible (my bet is that it will be).
Would be nice if it were, but since it's being based on a different chipset making it backwards compatible is going to take some doing.
I'm hoping Sony keeps with its precedent set with the PS2 and makes the PS3 backwards compatible. If they do that and put a HDD in the PS3, that will probably be my choice in the next gen. (I currently have an Xbox.)

I believe you will find them for $99 once the new system launches. I do not believe you will find them prior to Xbox2. Espeically since it appears that they will not be compatible with each other. You are not going to find the system for $49 like the PSOne. Microsoft cannot make the system that cheap. Sony will not be able to make the PS2 for $49 either. I do believe you will find the PSTwo for $99 as well but not $49.

C'mon they will drop to $49 as time goes on things drop in cost.
Crap it wasnt but 8-10 years ago and 1 meg of ram was $100 now you can get 512 for that.
Its not like its made of gold the value on electronics drop all the time. Crpa its only an aluminum based 700 MHZ processor.
The backwards compatible is going to be hard due to the chipset changes (as stated earlier) and also other factors.
I had heard that after E3 they were dropping the price to $99 to get momentum for teh Xbox 2 launch in 2005.

i've decided. i'm going to take out some money from my account, since i don't get paid for a couple of weeks. does Target have the free PH game with purchase of the Xbox or bundle? that's where i'll get mine if so.
i figure, $150 is half the original price, and they're losing even more money every console sold, i'm not gonna get a much better deal, especially if it's limited edition.

You tell em punqsux. I would say there is a 50/50 chance of the xbox dropping down to $99. If it did, it would be because they are trying to get rid of the remaining inventory after xbox 2 comes out.
