Not if the exclusive EA deal wouldn't go into effect for a year or two.

In the year 2010, news articles will read: "EA has exclusive rights to video game." In the year 2020, headlines will read: "EA has exclusive rights to your soul."

I thought they worked something out in the NHL, but haven't announced anything. They had a few small details that needed to be worked out. Such as some rule changes, and draft setup, before they made any announcement.

That's what I had heard too...but who knows.

The NHL is in sad state, they'd sell their soul for the right price I'm sure, hell they don't even have a TV contract for next year last I had heard.

Maybe the NHL could use the money to get back on their feet. I want to watch Kariya play again  Oh and about the games, NHL 2005 was way better than ESPN 2K5 so no dissapointment there.

Didnt EA criticize Take Two for buying out Major League Baseball, because it was a waste of money....and yet Hockey is a good deal?

I just wish EA would quit buying up all the licenses for the simple fact that then I wouldn't have to listen to everyone bitch about it every time one of these stories comes out.

I could care less anymore about EA EXCEPT for the fact they have horrible servers on XBox Live which pisses me off.......if I HAVE to play Madden fine but let the servers work or I will go apeshit

Does this surprise anyone?

I told everyone that EA was going to continue devouring the gaming industry months ago.

[UPDATE] Since this story went live, EA has changed the artwork on its NHL 06 home page. The graphic now reads "official license" rather than "exclusive license" (check the above screenshot index for a comparison). Subsequent to the story going live, an EA spokesperson told GameSpot that the company does not have an exclusive licensing deal with the NHL. The NHL confirmed that an existing license with EA was in effect, but the NHL did not offer additional comments on the earlier use of the word "exclusive" by EA.
