I just got hired at best buy and am wondering what factory costs on these items are. I dont start for a while yet, and am just curious how much I can expect to pay. How much are games marked up? Computer Hardware/systems? Music Stuff (players)? Any help would be great, thanks. The Best Buy discount is 5% over cost, so thats why I am asking what cost is.

Most new games cost $35-40 to the company, depending on the company.

Let's combine powers and summon Defender to the thread to answer this burning question! GO!

5 percent over cost is just about, or sometimes actually more, than what the retail price of most videogames are.
DVDs and CDs won't get much cheaper.
You'll make your killing on wires, accessories, and stereo equiptment, if you want it.

Cost on wiring is often 10% (at most) of the retail price, so you an get your ethernet cables, etc. dirt, dirt cheap.

Yea, game discount at best buy is little to none, probably better off with the GGC.

Here's an interesting question ... the $4.99 games that Best Buy are taking a loss on to clear out ... what will employees have to pay on those or will there not be a discount? (I am going to assume that BB won't make employees pay original cost on them).

as a best buy employee i can tell you that the best you'll do on a new game is about 18% off (ie $50 game will be around $42). Its not that great and below $30 GGC is usually a better deal. On those $5-10 games there will be no discount.

Mostly unrelated.. but when I worked at a car peformance shop.. certain items were sold below cost to retail customers and if we used our cost discount it ended up costing us more to buy the parts.

but $42 is basically wholesale cost, which is pretty good since you're only an employee. Understandably, none of us here are happy with the wholesale cost, of course =)

Oh well, gguess Ill have towait for that plasma. Although an at cost plasma could be worth gong clean for a month, or just buying that stuff from the head shop.
