I have the 3-year Performance Service Plan on my laptop. If I want a new battery for it, are they gonna take in my current battery in exchange for a new one or just give me an extra new one?

Theoretically, they'll want the old one, so they can RMA-out the new one and write it off.
Sometimes, they may not care.

Hit the nail on the head.
In my experience from working there, as well as using service plans, they will ALWAYS want the old one so, as Shrike said, they can write it off.

Yep, they'll want the battery. However, on camcorders you DO get to keep the orginal battery which is cool since they'll switch the battery after only a 20% decrease in perfomance. You can get a pretty good stack of batteries after a few years.
