As a former PC tech for a small, local business I saw this first hand. When the athalon was first on the market we had many customers ask for it, but we were told by intel not to use them if we wanted to keep getting shipments on time from them, particularly the high end server processors...

Took the words outta my mouth. I would rather spend my cash on better performance than fund crappy commercials with creepy blue guys.

Stupid. Why do companies do that stuff??? They know it's illegal to use that kind of anti-competitive practices.

And because they think that they aren't going to get caught. It's only illegal if you can prove it.

48 pages say that AMD can prove it.

Well, the music industry tried to form a cartel, to artificially boost CD prices from $9 to $15.....

..... and they got caught. They were forced to hand out millions of dollars in checks to customers. End Result: They're illegal activity ending up costing them tons of money.

And now, Intel's going to lose tons of money for committing illegal anti-competitive practices. (Same thing that happened to Nintendo circa 1990.)

After my mostrecent PC, i'm no longer getting Intel, and I'm convincing all of my friends to do the same. Why spend a lot more for lower quality and lower speed? I hope AMD wins.

I worked at a PC place, and let me tell you... it's true.

We dealt with the exact same issue, Intel threatened to delay shipments if we sold more AMD than INTEL.

Yup, the music industry got caught...and CD's still cost around $15... so for the billions they made, they had to give back mabye 10%... and they are still raking in the money now.

As for Intel, the same thing is going to happen. They will get hit with a few billion dollar fine, which after countless appeals will end up being a few measly hundred million.... and remember, this is the company that makes billions of dollars of profit a year... it's like pulling 2 hairs out of somone's arm. I love AMD, I just don't see where this will do much other than free publicity. It didn't do much to Microsoft, did it? And the current regime (I meant goverment) is even more pro-business now...
