The worst news that could possibly have been confirmed has been confirmed..... there is indeed a sequel in the works for Fiddy Tent ( ebonics translation 50 Cent): Bulletproof. I rarely hope for a game to crash and burn and be DOA but I'm praying for this game to sell worse than Mister Mosquito or Universal Theme Park.
Scarface and 50 Cent sequels planned, says VU Games boss
Rob Fahey 10:28 06/07/2005
"We see consecutive iterations as being a really important component of what we're trying to do..."
Vivendi Universal Games hopes to turn its forthcoming titles based on classic movie Scarface and US rapper 50 Cent into ongoing franchises, company president Phil O'Neil has revealed, with sequels to both games being a key part of the firm's plans.
Speaking exclusively with GamesIndustry.biz, O'Neil said that VU Games sees "a Scarface 2, a Scarface 3, a Scarface 4, and consecutive iterations of that product as being a really important component of what we're trying to do here."
Equally, with the forthcoming title based on 50 Cent, O'Neil claims that "arguably, 50 Cent - while a person - is not necessarily licensed IP in the traditional sense."
"It's actually an ability to create a franchise," he continued, "and that's probably the big determination which is the ability to take an IP and make it into a franchise as opposed to a one-off. So we're hopeful that candidly, both Scarface and 50, while not 'original' IP, become sustainable franchise brands for us."
In the interview - published in full on the site today - (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=9953) O'Neil speaks candidly about the difficulties VU Games has faced over the last few years and why he believes that the firm is now on the road to success.
He also discusses the success of the company's World of Warcraft massively multiplayer game, which, he says, has made VU Games into the world leader in this area - and talks about the shining example Blizzard's quality has set for the rest of the firm.

50 cent's music to games crossover will be like having a gaming version of the Spike TV awards show, all pop culture with little to no gaming content. I sure hope his game is a bomb, but I'm sure the same people that buy his albums will probably pick up his first game as well.

50 sucks so much, why on earth would i ever want to play as him in a game? They should make a game with me in it. I go by foughty nine cent.

There shouldn't even be a Scarface game, and now sequels?! Good lord. And 50 cent can go.. do something bad to himself, I could care less for Bulletproof.

Even if the game bombs, what makes you think that will stop them from making more?
Look at the truckloads of cash backing up into VU everyday from World of Warcraft. They can keep making these games forever.

It doesn't bother me that game companies continue to peddle Olsen twins games, or Digimon, or any other obnoxious licensed pap. It's not as if Acclaim was the only company that did it (although they, ahem, did it to death, as the saying goes).
The short version: Why does it matter if people buy this game? Won't you be just as happy not having purchased it for yourself?

Because the actions of those who buy the game affect the rest of us.
If enough people buy crappy games, guess what, more crappy games will be made. There is little variety and even less innovation so the last thing I want is for piece of shit games to sell well so that the developer will be encouraged to make more of the same garbage.
In this case VU is getting ahead of themselves and planning on peddling their garbage no matter what, but I suspect they are talking crap for one reason or another because they are not going to push something that doesn't sell well and lose money.

Sure, most games have sequels planned in advance; this way, if the game sells incredibly well, you're ahead of the game. If it bombs, you're out a few thousand in preplanning. It's worth the risk to follow up a hot title with a sequel. That's nothing new to games, movies, or music.
I'm curious why you're all convinced that this game is garbage. Have you played it, or are you just not a fan of the genre it purports itself to be?
In general, however, licensed games that are raging pieces of shit have been as ever present in gaming since the days of "Cabbage Patch Kids," or "Chase the Wagon" (that fucking Chuck Wagon dog-food promo title) on various Atari systems.
Unfortunately, as a society we are consistently proven to be buffoons due to our willingness to buy any branded piece of junk. It's not going away anytime soon.
I'm curious why these two titles have been singled out for branding hatred, given the dozens of them released every month. I have my theories why PAD dislikes them, but I'll make like Bob Novak and withold.

Why the fuck is everyone called 50 Cent bulletproof crappy? Have you played it? No. You just assume it will suck because it has 50 Cent and that it's gear towards an urban audiance that isn't what you'd refer to as "gamers". Personally I'm going to be buying the game and I know that it will do well.

This is a crappy game because this is nothing more than marketing for an idiot who thinks he is gangsta. To make matters worse he makes himself the main character and then calls himself "bullefproof". Give me a fucking break.
I'm going to make a game where I am the hero and call myself the shiznite. It gon be Da BoMb Yo!!!11 W0rD!!

The only game to get it right in the "urban" genre using real life people is the Def Jam series. Those games are incredibly fun. I'll have to wait and see about 50. If the game is good, it's good regardless of who is in it. Personally, I could care less about 50 but I could say the same for a lot of the Def Jam crew. The fact that the Def Jam games are really good negates anything else about them.

Thanks for proving why people like you single out games such as these. I don't recall a similar furor when Eminem tossed his hat in the gaming ring. And I doubt anyone here cares if Kiss: Psycho Circus Pinball sucked, much less started a thread about it before it was made.

I think the majority of the problem is that 50 Cent continuously reminds everyone of his thug nature, the fact he got shot 9 times, and his gangsta mentality. The uproar is primarly because people genuinely don't like the man. Snoop hasn't gotten any response that negative with True Crime or Def Jam.
Journey and Aerosmith had games too. It's just that they weren't the central focus and they sucked out loud. That's why no one cared.

 You're not a fan of effort, are you?
Eminem signed a deal to produce a video game several years ago. It never saw the light of day due to Eminem filing a lawsuit (you don't say...).
Despite that, what do you think a game about Eminem would be about? Collecting coins and rescuing the princess from the trailer park?
I simply pointed out that, of ALL the incredibly NUMEROUS piece of shit licensed games that come out (on an aside, have you bought Fantastic Four or Batman Begins?), some of you are getting your panties in a wad ONLY about games that reinforce stereotypes of black urban culture.
But your argument is cloaked in an intense dislike for "licensed" games, which, if you consider the kinds of games that come out these days, your argument can't be considered anything but racist.
Do I like these games? I dunno, I haven't played them. Nor do I feel that I'm the kind of person that is in the target demographic of these titles. Frankly, I don't care how well they sell, because chances are I still won't buy it.
They'll continue to make games I like regardless.
myke.
...I agree about Def Jam, but FFNY got to be a bit too far from a wrestling game for my liking. I'd also even buy a new EA game if they used the AKI engine for a TNA title.

I echo the sentiment about the def jam games being well made. A game can extend beyond the limits of its license. Goldeneye for example- the movie was quite mediocre, fortunately the game escaped the license, becoming completely independent.
All signs point to the 50 cent game being pure dressing and no substance, but maybe it will surprise. The idea of italian brothers jumping into pipes, eating mushrooms and spitting fire sounds silly and yet it worked.
Neither are games I am looking forward to, but for the good of the industry and the good of all gamers, it would be much better if they turn out to be awesome games with great content.

I was thinking about that a few days ago. Who would have thought the most recognized game and game character would have those qualities?

50 cent brags too much about(or constantly alludes to) surviving 9 shots...every time I see someone have that much pride about something, something else really bad happens to them. Being a rap star doesn't help his luck....
I mean, c'mon, it's as natural as.....as.......mitosis! former thug becomes rap star, gets shot down at the height of his career by mysterious rivals.
I rarely hope for a game to crash and burn and be DOA
if it were anything like DOA, that'd be really cool ;-)

You have no idea how impressed I am with someone mentioning "Chase the Chuck Wagon" for the 2600. When Ralston-Purina had a game division.... yeah, gaming was bad then. Unfortunately there was also a Kool Aid game too for the same system.
The biggest problem with this game, without having played it, is the absolute trash it represents. The intro movie teaser for this game was so bad, I mean not like A-Team, Evil Dead or Toxic Avenger where it's actually good or at least funny but just bad. "What's mines is mines what yours is mines." mmmmm, nice catchphrase.
Last thing I want is some ebonics speaking Blackula sounding rapper who thinks he's bad ass mo fo in a blatant ripoff of GTA. No one thinks Fiddy Tent is tough except Fiddy Tent. Games like GTA work not just because they're wide open and can do anything but because the main character is an everyman.
Why should I suspend disbelief that a millionaire rapper who's been on Cribs is now a street thug? If he were doing the voice over for it fine, whatever. However he IS the game, it's his name on it. Other single celebrity games of note? FUCK, Michael Jordon's Chaos In the Windy City and God knows what else. Unless the person the game is named for is actually famous for what they're doing in the game; Mario Lemieux, Arnold Palmer, Larry Bird, Dr. J, Tony Hawk, Dave Mirra etc the games have historically sucked donkey balls.
Do you want 5 more games starring rappers because this thing sells? Or would you rather have 5 games like Fable, Jade Empire, Katamari Damacy, Jak & Daxter and Pikmin. This game does well, regardless of quality, we get 5 more themed pieces of shit.
EDIT: BTW, this thread had nothing to do with Scarface, just Fiddy Tent. At least the Godfather and Scarface make sense to go after GTA and True Crime's market share. While I don't think either is going to be worth a damn at least the license makes sense. Fiddy Tent makes no sense. I don't think of one guy and think GTA KILLAH!1!1!!!
I have zero problems with violent games. I love dismembering and mutilating bodies with chainsaws, swords, shotguns and mini-guns as much as the next gamer.
It's all about crap that sells and the crap that follows the crap that sold. This game with all we know about licensed and personality driven games, plus the gawd awful laughable trailer, will suck. Given that it's Vivendi? Yeah, it's definitely going to suck.
The only thing that could crater this game further is if Dave Perry was in charge of it...... PS2/GCN or Xbox Matrix anyone???

I hate how mainstream hip-hop / hip-pop bastardizes Scarface.
