My hard drive died (I think) yesterday in the middle of playing star wars:jedi knight:jedi academy. Today I went out and bought a memory card from EB and when I put it in the controller it still tells me I can't save and that my hard drive is full (which it isn't). Why can't I save onto the memory card?
Does that game support memory cards for saves? (Some games don't.)

It doesn't say. But if some games don't then this is ridiculous. My saturn internal memory died a long time ago, but they made a very large (as opposed to the limited space xbox one) external memory and I can save and play every game like the day I bought the system. Microsoft makes it so you need an internal hard drive and you have no choice but to buy a new system if it dies. From what I've been reading this seems to happen to a lot of people. If xbox wasn't by far my least favorite current gen system I'd be even more pissed (luckily I didn't have any saves I really cared about, besides simpsons hit and run). Why the hell they'd make it so many games are virtually unplayable if the hard drives dead is beyond me. Looks like my xbox will just be collecting dust from now on. Though the fact that I just spent hours playing the game and now won't be able to finish pisses me off, and the 15 bucks I just wasted on a memory card makes it even worse. Does eb allow returns on used memory cards if the baggie has been opened?

use the memory card to hack it >_> bigger hard drive = funner xbox
I know Ninja Gaiden can not be saved to a mem card for example. I do think most games allow you to use a mem card, though.
Anyway my guess for the reason many games require the HDD to work would be that since developers can be sure it is always there they use it a lot for caching to speed up load times and other benefits. Now that you mentioned that I imagine there would be all kinds of problems trying to use an Xbox without a functioning HDD.

Some games are also too big to allow their saves on a memory card. KOTOR and Forza I know are both too big for it.
In answer to your question you can't use a memory card during a game. The default is to the HDD and you can't alter it to save to the card from games. The only thing you can do with the memory cards is transfer saves to it from the dashboard. If you HDD is kaput you need to get it fixed, a card won't do what it does.

So can you still trasnfer saves to your PC using Pro Action Replay?
I was thinking about picking up one in order to backup all my saves (lots of KOTR)... but if it doesn't work, I guess I shouldn't waste my $30.

I wouldn't know, I don't use PAR and I'm a Mac user anyways.
gamefaqs.com has KOTOR saves available for download, so you must be able to transfer them using that device.
