Here's just an idea. Well, I know that a lot of really cheap titles out there that you can get through here don't always have 50 hours of replay or 100 side missions, so I thought it would be a good idea to have some sort of game trading forum. So you can trade you cheap ass game so it gets circulated a little. You know, to spread the love. Or even sell a game for a cheap ass price. I know some people might get ripped off, but if you know the person you're trading with is trustworthy, I don't see whats wrong with this. I just see it as another way to save a buck and trading is a good way to change your library up a little.

-Just a Thought. Gimme some feedback.

I don't think thats a very good idea, remember, this is cheapass.com and theres nothing cheaper than free so if we started trading games eventually someone would just keep the game that they traded.

We tried this briefly right when the site first started (in May) but nobody seemed to use it.

There are some websites that are specific to game trading...

I have no problem with putting up the forum again, but I think most people will simply not use it...

LiquidKil, I turned your original post into a poll, I hope you don't mind.

Bad idea...while there would be a few of us out there who would establish a good trading circle...I guaran-damn-tee you you'll get a couple of bad nuts in there that will keep whatever they got and not send anything in return, or say they sent it and it got "lost in the mail." Sure you can ban them or really drag them thru the mud...but doing it once is all they would need to steal a free game from someone.

Same goes for selling...

Just better not to open that can of worms in the first place.

I think we could use it again.. I know Ive got a few games I hate and people love.. But EBgames just doesnt offer nuff to toss the game away..

Id hope all of us can be trusted.. I know I can trust Brolli, CheepyD, and Gamerl337 and the other mods.... And most if not all of you all..

Maybe we can make this work..

Definitely a lot of people I can trust on this site. I mean, don't go trading with people who have like 1-2 posts and feel bad when you get ripped off. I think that if you make sure you can trust who you are trading with, then this can work out fine.

Yep, you just gotta be sure about the person. I've been trading on the internet for years and its as safe as your willing to make it. I have gotten ripped off (My Gold Zelda OoT from some little punk) before. I did call the cops on him and got 'em on probation. He alreadys sold my game to someone else, so I got a Dreamcast out of it instead.

But when I trade, I ask for a complete address (No PO Box), any refrences (Ebay mainly, other trade sites) and a phone number. Most of the time I actually call the person to make sure that they are for real. Any ripper would not want them knowing that, seeing how must are under 16 and still live with their parents. Double checking the name with an online phonebook is a good idea to make sure they didn't use any fake names. I would let anyone ship first if they wanted to trade and had no ref's. And always, you MUST ship Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. I pay the $4 to ship it that way, and you should too.

I dont think we need another mod for the forum either, we have pleanty as it is.

Thank you, thank you.

And flooding someones AIM and Email is most likely useless. The smarter scammers use these. AIM names can be made in under 30 seconds and the same applies to a Yahoo or Hotmail email account.

Somehow a while back I stumbled upon a list of a users IP address and how many times they have posted from which address. I dont remember how I got there or how to get back, but if you have someones IP address, you can find out a lot. It can do a lot in a case of internet fraud.

You can always file mail fraud if someone doesn't send.. There are tons of places that help you get what's legally yours.

If you're not sending cash, it shouldn't be that hard to prove you've been robbed...

Yes, just make sure you save all emails and recepts. Taking a picture of the item is good too.

Some information:
http://www.usps.com/websites/depart/inspect/statutes.htm

Places to file a claim:
http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/cf1.asp
http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/cf1.asp
And don't be afraid to call their local PD.

But if your both not sure of the other, check into an escrow service. Both people send to a trusted 3rd party, and he sends to each person after both sets of goods have arrived.

But the best thing I just found is Switchboard. You can search by Name (Minors dont appear):
http://www.switchboard.com/
Or Phone Number:
http://www.switchboard.com/bin/cgirlookup.dll?LNK=3:161&MEM=1

If the phone number they give you is legit, it should match the address they are at.

I think the trading and selling should be left to eBay.
They've handled the "thieves" pretty well for me.

You don't trade or buy on Ebay. You bid. Ebay used to be a friendly community when it was small. But now with buy it now and set auction prices its more of a store and impersonal. I like the idea of being able to contact the other personl. Trade tips for your traded games and just help each other out in a tight community. I think that we should try it out for like a week, then if we have some positive input we could keep it up.

Don't put anything TOO good up for sale though, I can't afford many more games! (Well, I can afford another grand worth, but I really need to get into my backlog that will take me a good year and a half.. =/ )

I know me, I'll be buying up everyone's shit and then I'll be buried in more games.

Don't bump old topics that have absolutely no relevance today.
