I recently water-damaged my vx6000 cell phone (serviced through Verizon) and when I took it to be serviced at Verizon I was told that I would have to purchase another phone outside of the standard promotions. Long story short I need a cheap CDMA network (Verizon compliant) cell phone. The only ones that I have seen that are quality on ebay are around 180 dollars and that may be what I have to do but any help would be appreciated.

And on a side note is it safe to purchase used phones off ebay? I was told through the Verizon desk that most used phones on ebay have locked "codes" because they were stolen.

Thanks

cdma phones could be stolen... get the ESN # from the seller so you can check to make sure its not a stolen one. ebay is probably the cheapest price-wise though. go for one that they have discontinued because they are cheaper

Just make sure the phone is GPS capable. Many carriers will not allow you to activate a phone if it does not have it.

Have you taken a look at the new LG VX8100. This phone just came out and is like the VX6000, which I have, but has video and is blue tooth. It may be worth just buying the latest model.

I worked at a Radioshack, and to this day and maybe for the rest of my life. I will never understand how people water damage there phones. To help you out OP the reason they will not help you with a phone its like getting drunk and wrapping you car around a tree and the insurance company was riding shotgun. No coverage. I had to deal with at least one customer a day saying they dropped there phone. As soon as we take of the battery pack we can tell if it's water damage. So ebay is your best bet. Also ask if they have refurbed's for sell. The problem with ebay is it might be a stolen or locked phone but if you buy from someone who is reputable you'll be okay. Check feedback.

How much longer to you have in your two year contract? It might be better to just get a cheapo phone and wait until your contract ends so you can get in on one of the promo deals. I just got the new Motorola e815, and I love it. Its a great phone, great price, great reception, voice dialing, and it has a great camera, and you can hack it to death.

The LG VX8100 - Just came out. I am looking for a Blue Tooth capable phone also because it is illegal to talk on the phone in your car while driving in my town. Here is a video I found about the phone.

The Motorola e815 also has bluetooth, and it works with OBEX. It takes a little hacking, but you can do file transfers (mp3, pictures, etc) over bluetooth. My brother got the VX8100 when it came out last friday, we compared it with my Motorola e815, and he ended up returning it for the Motorola. It has better reception, speakerphone, battery life, hacks, etc. The only downsides weak vibration, and its VCAST performance is a little slow compared with the LG (ie it takes longer to buffer clips).

Thank you for the information. I currently own the LG VX6000 and I have been very pleased with the phone for the past few years, which is why I am drawn to the VX8100. The durability of an LG is a little better, and the camera on the vx8100 is better quality than the e815. I am also a big fan of the big speakers on the side of the phone, makes me think the speakerphone is a little clearer.

I did alot of research on both and I've had hands on experience with both phones and both the camera and speakerphone are better on the Motorola. If you want a good LG phone I'd go with the LG vx8000, I had it a week before I got the e815, the only problem with the Lg vx8000 was its size, it was too bulky. I like to stick my phone my pocket and the e815 fits perfectly. Before deciding on the phone you're going to be stuck with for the next two years, you should visit Howard Forums the best site on the internet for cell phone info:

I went to the mall last night and stopped by the cell phone stand in the middle of the mall. I have to stand by the vx8100, that may be because I am already an LG owner and current phone has been put through the ringer and is still breathing, but I was impressed with the 8100 last night. I especially like the speakers. The salesman and I tried them out and they were loud and clear.

I think there are few light models out there, but they are all pretty similar now. I am a big fan of the 8100 for Verizon because it's and LG and they are very durable. I have had the 6000 for a few years now and have put it through the ringer and it has held up great. You should check out the VX8100

Hey newposey and thanks for responding. I checked those models out and they are decent. The Samsungs are all mostly under 3 oz. They seem to be where I'm leaning. No camera or anything... but super small and light. :)

Sounds good, I am just a little partial to the LGs because I have had one for so long, and had lots of luck with them. I have had my vx6000 for about three years, so I think I am going to look into the 8100 as an upgrade.
