This boggles my mind. I just received my copy of Zelda: Four Swords today (courtesy of the great EBGames $14.99 sale), and it came with the GBA Link Cable, which as we all know by now, is purple. What I want to know is...
WHY? WTF NINTENDO? WHAT KIND OF CRACK WERE YOU ON WHEN YOU DECIDED THAT GAMECUBE STUFF SHOULD BE PURPLE???

Please keep all this gay talk to Gamefaqs and try to be civil people. The purple color did bother me when Nintendo came out with it, but since then its kind of grown on me. I know that whent eh GBC came out in purple I was like WTF, but the Atomic Purple grew to be the most popular color in my area, and it just grew on me till I bought. And the purple color traditionally does denote royalty and I think that only recently has it come to signify the gay community.

I believe Nintendo only ever released the one color of its GCN/Game Boy link cable. Unfortunately, it only comes in purple, but on the other hand, it came free with the game and didn't cost you anything extra.

Well, the Nintendo Gamecube color is purple with gray and black trimmings... the link cable is purple with gray and black trimmings... It's a well designed system, and the color manages to not look tacky. I say props to Nintendo for doing something less boring than Sony and less ugly than Microsoft.

Seriously though, I bet there is a crowd out there who saw the Gamecube in the early days and just dismissed it purely because of it appeared to be 'teh kiddie'. But they only play Madden and Halo though so its ok.

GBA came in 3 colors at launch.
Arctic (white), Indigo (indigo), and Glacier (clear blueish).

I don't really like purple either, I don't buy my electronics from Play-Skool. But they also have the system in black and platinum, so thats fine. Cables are trivial, though. If it upsets you that much, paint it. Its only a cable. Its not even a cable that you'd probably use every day, its a GBA link cable.
I also don't like the Xbox's sludge green, but thats another story.

wrong, but a nice try ^^ when the gba launched there was a choice of at least i believe 3 colors, one might have been purple
perhaps youre thinking of the gba, that launched only purple.

thats one thing i like about nintendo is that they always offer offbeat colors on their systems (after snes anyways) i hate how most electronics are either black or silver, its so boring.

Ex: I now have a clear green Xbox, a black ps2, and a purple GCN... next gen I'll have a White 360, a silver ps3, and a black (or perhaps lime GREEN!) Revo.

I really like the dark purple color scheme. It looks pretty damn cool if you ask me. Purple cube, puple cables, and purple GBA all looks fine by me.
I don't hear too many people complain about that damn bright green Xbox thing, for goodness' sake....

You know how indigo is in between purple and blue? I always say my Gamecube is purple when I don't use the word indigo, and I know at least two people who insist to me that it's more blue than purple whenever I call it purple. One of those cases of weird color perception differences.

That was Wendio. Also I like the purple color of the GBA and Cube. But I got a silver one in my MKDD bundle. Hell most of my game stuff could be rainbow color, I don't care as long as it's cheap.

Minus the flame, I think that's the reason why they went with indigo. I personally couldn't really care less, as long as it plays games it could be puke brown for all I care. That's just me though.

Brand new purple GameCubes are fairly hard to find. It's all Platinum and and Jet now. And I hate that Platinum still says "Limited Edition", because it is not at all.

It means royalty especially back in Roman times and medieval it was extremely popular. However I have a silver GC. I have never figured out why they brought it out in purple. I could see some other color just not purple. To me the GC purple is not a universal color. It's not a normal purple color. Is what I am saying.

Actually it wasnt factual. Statistically a homosexual persons favorite color has been found to be yellow, not purple. So infact you are wrong, and just a moron who is stereotypical.

Say what you will, but i think its a good idea. Since its between what could be called "manly" and "girly" colors, its gender neutral. Meaning a girl could love the color without a boy hating it.
So i think Nintendo was looking out for most its customers by doing that. As for the gba link cable, once again core customers are kids so the gender neutral color would go best
Think about this....
who would be linking up more? kids who want to play with their gba and gamecubes, or adults/teens who could just play a game online if they wanted to play against other people?
As a grown person, I would think you dont mind using an item because of the color but if you do the simple solution is dont buy it.
Not to mention the gamecube was realeased in black for people who had anything against indigo at launch.

The word purple gives me a headache. That and purple isnt a real color, or a real name for that matter. It's just made up for people who cant seem to say redish-blue or bluish-red. The correct term is Violet. Anyone who took high school art should know this. Bitches.
