if videogames are ever to be considered a full-fledged potion of the general media (like papers, movies, TV, etc) then they will be unable to avoid a certain degree of politization.

i hope it does just for the pure fact that people would shut the fuck up about them, and stop blaming all of societys ills on entertainment.

that's stupid.
i don't need anyone to legitinize video gqames for me.
As long as they are legitimately fun.
getting them in the same categopry as that crap will make game crappier than they have already become.
so why do you want to ruin video games?
politics suck.

to elaborate, how many lives would u say video games destroy? sure there are a very small number of cases per year of like, everquest deaths or something, but those people should get help from their family or friends, because obviously if you forget your kid is in the car with the windows rolled up because u had to rush in and play everquest, you DO have a problem.
id say the demographic for that is prolly somewhere around 50-100 people in the world that are THAT obsessed and need help.
im just sick of hearing shit like "people kill people because of gta...which is a racist game!" total bullshit! if it was racist i would be the first person to get pissed off, but in the context of the storyline of the game, it was just another mission.
could u IMAGINE if a movie like american history x had to be edited so all racist or offensive material was taken out?
people just attack video games because they are an easy target. no one stands up for them. theres no ratings borad, with the power and influence, like there is with movies.
im all for blaming drugs for some of whats wrong. last year pittsburgh had the most homocides since 1993, i believe 80 or 85% of those were drug related. and i have a feeling the other 15-20% wernt video games

its not about ruining video games, its about wanting people to stop their witch hunt that games are bad when there are real evils in the world that we could be making a diffrence against. video games are just a scapegoat right now, and presonally id like politicians to stop using one of my hobbies as a scapegoat just because they dont know how to fix real life problems!

First of all I have yet to see full fledged, in your face political views in any game.
Also if you want to buy into the idea that creating a game world with no food and overpopulation (example), is getting political then I believe you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
I do not believe games are getting politcal, but I do believe that they can and probably will one day when a frustrated dev just says F it and pours all his frustration into the game.
Anyway, when you see a game about assasinating a president called dubya then you will know that games are getting political.
EDIT: The Secret Service is probably reading this post right now.
