check out super monkey ball. unfortunatly its very hard. Get Shrek Super Party. Its awesome and fun.

Super Monkey Ball 1-2 have excellent multiplayer minigames, so they are great recommendations. I'd also highly recommend Wario Ware Mega Party Game$, Smuggler's Run: Warzones, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Alien Hominid, Donkey Konga, Sega Soccer Slam, Zelda: 4 Swords Adventures (if you've got the links & GBAs), Midway Arcade Treasures 1-2, Mario Power Tennis, Phantasy Star Online I&II, Pikmin 2, and Rogue Squadron III among others.

Why has nobody mentioned Timesplitters?? I would consider TS: Future Perfect the best of the best for multiplayer. Also consider:

007 Agent Under Fire
007 Nightfire (haven't tried Everything or Nothing yet)
Worms 3D (nothing beats 2D Worms but still incredible)
Zelda Four Swords Adventures

Donkey Konga... it'd be great if I could get 4 bongos together but as of now, 2 of them provides plenty of fun.:D

Otherwise, Mario Kart, Mario Party 4 (and soon 5 as well since I just got it) and TimeSplitters 2 (when I had it, never had TS3).

Actually, SSBM is the least played multiplayer game since I kick everyone's ass at it. That's why Donkey Konga is so popular since it's easy to pick up and endlessly fun to play.

Shrek Super Party is actually a pretty fun title, especially if you're playing with people who aren't gamers.
My favorites are Zelda: Four Swords (Sweetbaby--I think you can get used link cables at GS for $5), Mario Tennis, and Bomberman Generations.

It's an anime that's still airing in Japan (I think they're on season 5) and the dub is suppose to hit Toonami this fall. I suppose DVDs will be out then too. The manga is already out and done by Viz.

I vote for Tales of Destiny 2, it makes a great multiplayer game as long as your friends are patient for you to walk around and get in battles.
