and with gamecrazys great inflated used game prices on most games, we should be able to break even if we bought all three games for the price of 2 at gamestop, GREAT DEAL!

100% agree. My local Game Crazy is rediculously overpriced on nearly everything.

Some places are cheaper then others, Grandia 2 for dreamcast at gamestop is 24.99, right now in store they have 30% off DC games so that would put it at about 18 dollars and i bought my copy at gamecrazy for 12.99. Almost all of their dreamcast prices are half of what Gamestop has, most PS1 games are in the same boat.

PLEASE...let's not get into this again!

Suikoden I is $15 at Game Crazy, and $29.99 at Gamestop
Skies of Arcadia is $17.99 at Gamestop and $40 at Game Crazy
(These are both used prices)

Gamestop employees are more likely to be mean than Game Crazy.
Game Crazy employees are more likely to be annoying and pushy.

Don't be a fanboy. I think it's fair to be proud of your store or company, but take off the rose-colored glasses and stop putting everybody else down all the time.

my local gamecrazy is dirt cheap, they had p.n.03 for 4.99 used.. and animal crossing for 14.99 used.. i've never see a price that low, on a 49.99 game. ya heard?

05-03-2004, 09:10 PM
i also am wondering if the free game must be cheaper than the rest. because i was thinking about getting rogue sqaudron for 13 and another 1 for around the same pric but then getting mario sunshine which is 26.

GizmoGC
05-03-2004, 09:59 PM
Tyecko, like every place under the sub, the CHEAPEST is always free. Why would they allow you to buy two $14.99 games and get a $39.99 for free? Dosn't make sense. However, you can buy a $39.99 and a $14.99 and get a $14.99 or less for free. Best value is three games of the same price.

Being that ive shopped at both places, I tend to find Game Cray has lower prices 4/5 times. This is just looking for random games. Lets not get into the fact that EB is selling the Zelda Collectors disc for $54.99 used...

Dude,

I saw that today and I was dumbstruck. I wanted to ask the guy how much they gave for it but I was in such a stupor that I said nothing (he was helping a guy at the time and I didn't want to barge in anyway and make everybody mad).

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one. Secret of Mana - $40, Terminator 3 was what, $40 for how long? Indiana Jones was $40 for how long? Oh yeah, and Lufia 2 for snes is $45 cart-only. There are several ridiculous N64 prices as well. Perhaps Game Crazy is cheaper on games that you prefer than Gamestop/EB, but I think it's 50/50 Gamestop and Game Crazy (I don't even like GS that much). EB is a whole different story - there are a lot of things I don't like about them. Yes, GC, GS, and just about every other game store outclasses EB.

A few things I REALLY like about Game Crazy over other stores. I like the hours you're open. I REALLY like the giveaways with the pre-orders. Geez, at least you guys give some of that crap away as an incentive. I do greatly appreciate that. I also like the fact that they put a hold on certain games to keep people from just "requesting" all the "rare" games and hording them to themselves (I was told that Suikoden II is no longer available for the "request" to have a game shipped to your store).

Still, for the love, it would be nice if ONE game store would put a leash on their employees and not let them horde the good games to themselves. I have asked many GC employees if there are any items "set aside" that an employee decided not to get. The stockpile of glory that they go through when they look through the employee holds makes me sick.

GizmoGC
05-04-2004, 01:52 AM
Well, we do have a 'hold' box, but most of it is just cheap games. I try and only allow each employee to have 3 games on hold (which is usually just crap they like to play that they don't want to sell). But yeah, if Suikoden II comes in, and an employee knows its rare, there gonna buy it

I just got back from two different GameCrazy stores. They either did not have the games I wanted or they ones they did have in stock were scratched up pretty bad. Decent deal, but poor quality selection. I did break down and pick up a refurb XBox for $129 however. Had to put some of that store credit to use. :)

Went back to both GC to look a little deeper for used games in good condition in order to take advantage of their buy 2, 1 free promotion. Well, we all know the selection is bad, so I had a hard time even finding anything I needed. I eventually found 3 titles. One had a great cover and disk, but now book. Another had a great disk but no cover or book, and the third had a great cover and book, but a badly abused disk. I give up on finding qualtiy used games there.

Since I had store credit at two stores, I bought new games at one in order to return at the other to consolidate store credit. I bought Onimusha 3 with 20% discounted collectors guide. Returned Onimusha 3, but kept discounted guide. I will pick the game up later when it is on sale somewhere. I bought a new copy of Fatal Frame II, Sims Bustin Out and a new Microsoft brand S-Video cable for the refurb XBox I bought yesterday. Still have $40 to use up there.

They did not get in La Pucelle Tactics because, get this. Nobody preordered it. Apparently, if nobody preorders a particular title, they just don't carry it at all. Never heard of such a thing.

Oh well, I end up using the remaining store credit next weekend on a new title I suppose. They have outstanding trade-in values, but where do you spend your store credit? Overpriced, abused used games? Hardware is always a good avenue, which is where I primarily spent my credit. And on new games, which I hate paying full price for.

Anyone else have similar problems with this chain? After I spend my remaining store credit, I doubt I'll be going back. Painful experience overall.

<They did not get in La Pucelle Tactics because, get this. Nobody preordered it. Apparently, if nobody preorders a particular title, they just don't carry it at all. Never heard of such a thing. >

Actually, the way it works is that if there are no preorders, the title is not overnight shipped to the store. In this case, La Pucelle didn't get sent overnight, but will be sent to that particular store with normal restocks, usually 3-5 days after release.
To get into further boring detail, some titles are listed as Guaranteed regardless of preorders (usually the big stuff, Madden, FF, etc.) and will ship out overnight. Other titles (such as La Pucelle) are guaranteed overnight shipped to stores only if they have at least one preorder. And still others (C titles, if you will) are only shipped out with restocks.

Sorry for the ramble :P

GameCrazy's the best game store there is! I decided to go use some of my store credit for this deal and picked up 21 games! I can't remember them all, but I got:

for 50 + tax:
-Animal Crossing
-Viewtiful Joe
-Campcom vs. SnK 2 EO

for 50 + tax:
-Mario Golf
-Panzer Dragoon Orta
-Suikoden III

for 40 + tax
-F-Zero GX
-Harvest Moon
-Eternal Darkness GC

for 30 + tax
-Pikmin
-Splinter Cell XB
-Armored Core 2

for 30 + tax
-Ico
-Syberia
-MechAssault

for 30 + tax
-Starfox Adventures
-Return to Wolfenstein
-Ratchet and Clank

All the games were in mint condition, not even a scratch on them. You'll never get that at GameStop or EB!

I made a trek and it was okay.

I got SOCOM II (mint) and NBA Street vol.2 and Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 for $50.

Street and Hoffman didn't have manuals and were pretty banged up. Not the best deal ever, but three games (one pretty new) for $50 doesn't suck.

Some stores give MVP prices on top of the Buy 2 Get 1 Free, some don't. It is actually in print that it states you cannot receive MVP discount on top of getting 1 free, makes sense.

Well, the more I think about it, the more upset I get. It seems like false advertising. Had I bought 2, the price would have been $6 less than what I paid, so it is not buy 2 get one free, it is buy 2 for more than you would ordinarily have to pay, get one free. It would be slightly different (i.e. I would be griping less) if they didn't have stickers on every game that say "MVP Price: $xx.xx". Those stickers imply that that is the normal price for members, and any "event" discount should therefore be taken from that price. I will be writing an email, and possibly a letter, to GameCrazy (no, I won't be mentioning CAG), but I don't really expect anything to come of it.

Whew, spent over 2 hours in GC yesterday attempting to use my remaining store credit. Same problem as before. Either did not have the game I was looking for, or they were in such poor condition, I passed. Ended up picking up Top Spin, Pokemon Channel and Crimson Sea at 22.99 each for the buy 2, get one free sale. Picked up F-Zero GX for $13.49 used. Also grabbed new copies of TMNT for XBox, Broken Sword for Xbox and Outlaw Golf for GCN. All new games were priced $19.99, but rang up as much as $20 higher at the register. I will give GC this, they did honor the $19.99 marked price, so I saved an additional $40 on the new games.

I would not recomend GC for used games due to the poor selection and quality, at least for the two locations in my area. I would recommend them for the absolute best trade-in values and for new games a hardware. I'll stick to EB B&M for my used games where the quality is much higher.
