Been curious about this title and noticed my CC had a demo playable in store so I tried it out. I really liked what I saw it reminded me of classic Ken Griffey Baseball with a touch of baseball simualator 1000 thrown in. Anybody else tried this?

Comes out on my B-Day, yay!
Played the demo and, although I don't usually like baseball, I thought it was great

Looks like this will be a sweet Spring/Summer 2006 purchase when it hits $20 - just in time for baseball season...

Mario Kart.
Sometimes I think it's a fluke when firsy party Nintendo games hit Player's Choice status.

I've played the full Japanese version and it rocks. The mini-games are excellent and the story/season mode is excellent. Just like Mario Golf and Mario Tennis, you can get pretty deep into the intricacies of the sport or you can go out and use special moves to throw egg pitches with Yoshi. I'm a baseball fanatic and I love this one.

I love when people assume pricedrops...especially for a game that isn't even out yet. Mario Kart still no price drop. Paper Mario still no price drop. Pikmin 2 still no price drop. Mario tennis still no price drop.
Please also understand, while those games can be purchased for less then their MSRP, they still have not been officially dropped by Nintendo or given Players Choice status.
I've got it preordered at Gamerush so I already took advantage of a $20 price drop to get it for $29.99... This is one of the few games I preordered there that I probably would have picked up at (near) full price - I'm sure Fry's will have it for $38 like they did with Paper Mario last year.

I really would like to play this one. Hopefully it drops fast... unlike Pikmin 2. Only thing I'm buying full price this year is Zelda: TP and Mario Kart DS.

I was really impressed with the demo. It was the most fun I have had with a baseball game for a long time.

I guarantee that at some point in the future I buy this game for $20 or less. I got Paper Mario for $20 and Pikmin 2 for ~$10 already and I can wait as long as it takes...

This is why Nintendo doesn't bother doing more than one innovating game a system.

Yeah, thats it. Sony and Microsoft are all into innovation though.

if I wasn't such a fanboy I might pass it up, as it seemed kinda slow in the outfield in the demo. But it's mint on launch anyway!

I did the same thing.
Played the demo for quite a while at E3. I really liked it. I find baseball games nowadays to be far too boring and sim-ish -- even though I did like ESPN MLB 2K5 a good deal. Mario Superstar Baseball reminds me of the fun 16- and 8-bit baseball titles like Dusty Diamond All-Star Softball (am I the only one who played that?).

It's one of the many NES games I have on my PSP homebrew, and that sucker's harder than I remember. And I even had the fat guy who floats on my team.

i have decided that basically every NES game i play on a homebrew is much harder than it used to be.
seriously, TMNT 2 was so easy back in the day... somewhere along the line, I lost my skills...:joystick:

The only baseball games I ever liked:
Ken Griffey
ESPN MLB 2k5 (awesome game, got it for 5 dollars.)

This game reminded me a lot of Baseball Stars, especially in the pitcher/batter interface. This is one of the few non-RPG's I'll be getting at launch.

Nope. I thought the exact same thing. I still own Dusty Diamond and I still play it to this day. In fact, I consider myself to be the greatest Dusty Diamond player ever. :D
I can't wait for this one. It's the rebirth of Dusty Diamond.

It plays good. The batting and pitching is the best part, but the feilding is okay. I wish it had soom kind of season mode, but it's just tournements with diffrent difficulties, like Mario Tennis. You go from Mushroom Cup to Star Cup and all that jazz, nothing to exciting.
IGN review, 7.9...

IGN hates Mario offshoot games, though.
They gave MK 64 and DD 7.9 too.
Wait for print reviews.

Well, despite the rating (though I don't think 7.9 is that bad), the text of the review is mostly positive. I was posting the IGN review as a GOOD thing :D. I'm getting it regardless (Gamerush preorder) but am just scanning reviews to see what it is like (I have not had time to play the demos).

It's a good game (judging by the E3 demo) but not as great as I had hoped for. Super Mario Strikers is much, much better. 4 player mode on that is fucking awesome.

Got it yesterday and I played it for a couple hours. I like it and can't wait to play it with some friends.
I see what reviewers were talking about with the feilding but it didn't bother me too much. What did bother me was the running from base to base, kinda difficult. After you hit a pop-up the runners automaticly start running to the next base. I wouldn't mind it that much but I'm not used to running system yet, so most of the time I get screwed if bases are drunk and I get a pop up.
The special powers are cool, what would a Mario Sports game be without them? The mini games are okay, but nothing special, kinda like Mario Tennis's mini games. But the batting and pitching is the best part. I like it so far, but once I get used to the running I'm sure I'll have more fun.

I bought this from someone on half.com about a week before it was released, for $34.99 + $2.50 shipping. My girlfriend and I have played it for several hours already and it's a really fun game. The challenge mode is enjoyable and can provide a considerable level of difficulty once you reach the star difficulty level and above. The mini-games are good, though there aren't enough of them IMO. I really love the fact that you can pick from so many characters with which to completely customize your team. The specials are well done and make the game more interesting.
The only problem I have with this game is an apparent glitch I found while running the bases. If you attempt to steal a base and the catcher throws to the base you trying to steal, you can just stop and go back to where you came from. The CPU will never throw back to that base(until you're already safe) and will only be able to catch you if the CPU-controlled character is much faster than your base-runner. This can give the player an unfair advantage, especially in the 2 highest difficulties, when it becomes harder to steal. Otherwise, I have no substantial complaints. Fielding is not difficult, you just have to put players where they will perform best. In the early stages of challenge mode you don't have much to choose from so you have to improvise. I've had few problems with the fact that runners go on a pop-fly. After a couple games I learned to quickly press X when a pop-up was hit and it hasn't bothered me since.
