I'm having some trouble. I've recently remembered two movies from my early childhood but I can't remember what they were. One was anime I'm pretty sure. I remember there were two kids and they lived on some kind of farm. Then some kind of monster thingy came and they became friends. That's pretty much all the info I can remember. I used to rent it from Blockbuster all the time. The second one is about penguins. I know it sounds wierd, but it was a cartoon movie about penguins. It was in a cartoony style neither, it was realistic looking. I'm pretty sure the penguins would talk so that you could understand their communication. I'm almost certain the main plot was about a child penguin that went on some crazy adventure. I only remember two scenes from that movie. 1) They were showing the penguin nesting ground 2) The child penguin was on a block of ice trying to escape from a killer whale. I know this isn't very much information, but any help provided would be greatly appreciated.

I was going to guess Totoro on the first one also.

It might help us to know when your early childhood was.

My Neighbor Totoro is a Miyazaki film that got put out by Disney stateside on DVD. That means you can find it most places selling anime...I'd give Best Buy a shot first.

Edit: D"OH forgot that it wasn't Disney but Fox

$6 shipped. I'm actually kind of surprised at how cheap it is. It's a Studio Ghibli film (same people who did Princess Mononoke, Spiritted Away).

The only slightly high profile thing I remember starring penguins from that time is The Penguin and the Pebble (or maybe it was Pebble and the Penguin).

I think that's it, but I'm not sure. Could you tell me the plot of it since I remember most of it and I can see if we're thinking of the same thing.

Later this year (august?) Disney is re-releasing My Neighbor Totoro as a 2-disc with new voice talent (Dakota Fanning, for one). It is funny, since Dakota was not born yet when the movie was first released.

The penguin movie is "Scamper the Penguin". Or at least, your description would fit that movie perfectly.

EDIT: I didn't even read anything past your first sentence about the penguin movie. After reading your scene descriptions, yes, that's 100% it.

I used to love the show. But that was.. like 14 years ago.

The upcoming 2-disk Disney-release should be widescreen w/ the Japanese audio tracks included. Also, Nausicca comes out this year!

There is also an animated movie that i've been wondering about lately too, maybe you can help me. I think it was anime but not really sure. I saw it about fifteen years ago and all i remember is one particular scene:
There is a child panda who is trying to climb some waterfall because (i think) he was trying to reach his mama panda. I just remember him struggling alot as he tried to climb and the entire scene was really dramatic. I know its not much but that is all my memory is giving me.

I'm 90% sure theres a re-release coming out soon. Should be following suit from the recent re-releases of Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Deleivery Service.

I also have a childhood cartoon that I want to see again. I remember it had aircraft of some variety, and I think they were air pirates. In the beginning (or somewhere around there) a guy is shot down and crashes near or in a pool of water. I also remember a scene where the guy falls into a canyon, and leeches attach to his body. That is all I can remember.

After how long it took Disney to release Castle In The Sky, I wouldn't hold my breath about anything actually making it out this year... but damn! I would love a better version of Totoro. I love it, and my children have grown up with it, and I've given it to every other child who enters our galaxy of children of family. It's a great film with no real peril - imagine! - though there is some imagined peril when the younger sister is missing.

I'll just remain patient and wait for Nausica. Mmm.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=4778 :

Disney has sent out a press release confirming the August 31st DVD release of My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Porco Rosso. As with last April's triple release of Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away, each movie will released as a $29.99 2-disc set with plenty of extras on the second DVD. VHS versions will also be released for $22.99.

I have one for you guys. I watched the latter half of this animated movie years ago, and I had no idea what I was watching, and I only saw it that one time.

It centers around a colony of ants. Scenes I remember are of a female ant saving the life of the male main character ant from drowning, ants receiving slips of their new jobs and the main character ant getting the worst that an ant could get, the main character ant sneaking into an adults club and playing in the band and subsequently getting caught and ejected; the ant finding a red egg that rolls around of its own will and willingly becoming the ant's 'kabump', which shows that you are an adult ant (basically a bump on their butt). He was discovered by an elder ant, who was given a speech about what happened to this egg, and why he shouldn't use it to impersonate his kabump.

Whew, for only watching it once i sure remember alot. Well? Can anyone tell me what this movie is?
