I apologize because this is prolly the wrong area to even ask, but I have a question concering 2 (and possibly more) games.

Doom & WWF: Wrestlemania The Arcade Game.

I can find longbox copies of this, and jewel case GH copies, but not non-GH jewel case copies. I know Resident Evil had a longbox, and a non-GH copy, because RE: DC became GH instead, but is there such thing as a non-GH jewel case copy for these 2 games? If not, I'll buy the GH versions. Is there anymore games that has had this treatment too? And, is there a MK3 jewel case version?

RE: DC was released as a non-GH title, too. The RE: DC with DualShock became the GH version.

But I don't think that's what you wanted to know.

Yea I knew that. I'm trying to get that one for the RE2 demo. :)

Looks like Doom & WWF are both longbox non-GH and jewel GH only, which is a small exception to my non-GH collection I guess. MK3 I was more or less curious of, because if a game is re-released in some form, I don't need the original (Example: I have Midway Arcade Treasures 2 now)

Why is there such an aversion to copies that say "Greatest Hits" and such a value on black-label copies? Is it merely a collector's issue?

Exactly. all that matters to me is if the disc works :)

A little bit of the collector inside, and the other part being how GOD AWFUL the garish green label looks.

I'm pretty sure Tekken and Street Fighter Alpha are the same way. And least, I can only find longbox and GH.

And that eats me up on the inside.

It depends on why you collect. In PS1 games, a GH title dropped artwork from behind the disk in the jewel case and replaced it with an ad for other games. The same thing was done with the back page of the manual, and the disk was swapped from a color illustration to a plain black and white logo.

For a game like Soul Edge, you lost 3 full-size illustrations of characters to ads for Namco games -- not cool.

So if u are a really big, HUGE fan of a game, and u collect toys, guide books, posters, art books, and Japanese window clings, figures, and puzzles, the opportunity to own some more illustrations of your favorite characters can be important.

And then some people just don't like the green bar.

I have to admit the PS1 greatest hits makes games look like crap. What was probably meant to attract kids and their budget minded parents makes a travesty of what video game art is all about. donssword hit on all the important points with that. I buy most of my games once they hit greatest hits staus so that I get the same price without any of the greatest hits crappy cases. Microsoft is the only company that really got it. The silver actually looks better than the green and they left the original manual in there. And the front picture is cropped only slightly and the back cover is left alone also. It should be the standard for the next generation of greatest/platinum/player's/ultimate/infinite/cosmic hits

It's a great time to be a cheap ass gamer.

I don't remember seeing a SFA GH but I did see a copy in a jewel case covered with Capcom Edge logos.

Yeah, there was the longbox version and then that one. I've only seen the jewel case version once in my life though, lol.

I never got a Playstation, and now that I have a PS2, all 6 of the PSX games I own are GH, so they almost look ok on the shelf :)

But I hate the red rounded part of the few GH PS2 games I have.

The Greatest Hits logos look just plain bad. Im sure Sony made them stand out so much so people could easily tell which games would only cost $20. They stand out the most with the colors, personally i hate the colors. They stand out but they look so god damn shitty, especially PSX Greatest Hits...............

Wasn't that when they re-released it as part of the "fighters edge" collection or something like that.....

Street Fighter Alpha was not released as a "Fighter's Edge". However, SFA2 and 3 were. SFA was released in the two variants of the cardboard/plastic longbox and possibly the longbox jewel case, but I have seen no evidence of this.
