Like everyone else here I want more money well I got a great way to make it. For all those graduating seniors of HS or college, have a graduation party. I had one the other day and made some major loot. My folks picked up the bill for all the costs and all I needed to do was to help out and greet/talk to everyone. The best part is you send invitations to family who you know cant make it and they most likely will send you a check anyway. It worked for me it can work for you too

Yeah, my sisters did this as well. The sad thing is, though, when I graduate, I don't think my grandparents (Mom or Dad's side) will still be alive. Which is already a bad thing.

Dammit, when I graduated ten years ago all I got was a crappy cake and about $100.00. Cheap ass parents/family.
It's a good thing my relatives don't try this with me. I'd take a bath on shipping to send them something horrible for trying to exploit me.

I gotta go with you on this one. Fleecing family? No thank you. These people already do enough for me as it is.

I've got to agree with elprincipe on this one.
Trying to manipulate your family and friends for a couple bucks is fairly low.

Yeah but HS graduation may be your last chance at a few bucks before they tell you that you're a man and you have to go out into the world...you might as well get some last bucks in as a kid.

Yeah, I can understand that defender, but manipulating your family for the sole reason of getting a paltry few dollars? I mean, I sure just about everyone still gets checks from thier grandmothers (if they are still alive) on thier birthday... I don't know about you, but I've never even cashed one of those.

He probably will never regret what he's done but someday may regret what he does not do. In most cases the older you get the wiser you get.
Someday he'll have to make it right one way or the other.

No amount of money is worth seeing my extended relatives. But when I had my graduation party one of the gifts I got was a pen with a clock in it. No money or checks just crappy gifts.

I feel the same way, I hate seeing most of my extended family (I could spend hours explaining why so I'll just leave it at that).
When I graduated HS I didn't have a party but I still ended up getting some gifts anyway.

Perhaps I have a skewed world view.. a couple hundred dollars IS a paltry few dollars to me.

Isn't that money supposed to help you either get on your feet in the world or get through college? My parents made me save most of mine to use as spending money in college. I was mad at the time, but in retrospect, not having to work that summer was excellent.

Do you realise that when you DON'T cash a check you unbalance the senders checking account?

how do you do that? The bank has no record of the transaction until you cash in the check

I'm graduating this month, and insist my parents dont throw me a crappy party for me with all their friends. If my family is going to give me money for graduating, they are going to if i have a party or not...Anyways, i haven't worked 30 hours a week the past 6 months for no reason, i have enough g's in the bank to last atleast my first year at University of Florida. (My 100% scholarship should help some too :)

Yeah, but in the person's checkbook ledger they wrote in the check and subtracted the amount out of their balance. After a while they've got the money shown as gone on their own records, but the bank statement won't reflect that, and chances are they'll have forgotten about it, so they'll have to go back through cancelled checks and match them up to the ledger's entries to see who's screwing up their math.

I understand that, I just check online to see if my check was cashed though. I guess most people that still use checks probably do not use the internet
