Some brands have better read/write rates than others. Some have better reputations than others. Panasonic SD cards are said to be some of the fastest/reliable on the market, thus the high prices. Just stick with the major brands and you'll be fine.

i've had little problems to no problems with SanDisks ones. They are usually cheap.
