View Full Version : EB Trade IN Deal - extra $10.00 for three games NO EXCLUSIONS
loserboy

Time to start doing the math, but it looks like trade-in mania is here again. EB from 5/2 - 5/29 is giving an extra $10.00 credit for every three games traded in WITH NO EXCLUSIONS though the titles must all be different during each trade in.
Start buying up those two dollar games...

i.e. no game gear games? :P

Yeah, but it's not worth a damn if they only give you .01-1.00 for each of the games you try to trade in like they do sometimes with crappy next-gen games.
loserboy
05-02-2004, 06:16 PM
The restrictions are of course Next Gen Games only and:
"Games trade-in must be 3 different titles. Boxes and instructions are required. Cannot be combined with any other offer or discount. Some customers may be responsible for sales tax. Not valid at EBGames.com Full games only; no demo discs accepted. Offer valid from May 2, 2004 through May 29, 2004. See slaes associates for complte details."
Also they have their incremental percentage increase for used games:
Buy 2 games 20% off with card
Buy 3 games 25% off with card
Buy 4 games 30% off with card

If you really want to clean out your collection use ebay. The slot machines may not need much skill but you don't get any return. With the table games you have a chance.

I was at EB tonight and saw this deal. HOWEVER, the guy also told me they do not issue vouchers anymore. If I wanted to trade in my games, I'd have to use that trade credit on the spot or otherwise forfeit the remainder. I'm in Florida, and he said it was a new state law. Sounded bogus, so I left.

I thought they meant 10 plus the value of each game. But the sports game they only give like a buck for so it wouldn't be that much more.
But are you sure its 10 for all three? Can I give like 1 for ps2 and 2 for xbox?
bradr
05-02-2004, 09:16 PM
If I remember correctly, EB was giving $.25 (that's cents) for some next gen titles. Keep in mind the $10 on top would only give you $10.75 for three games. Is that worth it? Even if they gave you $1 each, $13 credit for 3 games?

You might rather do five games for free game BUT try and trade in MLB 2002 for ANYTHING. Hell, try and sell it on ebay...it's worthless. The same with any old sports game they no longer have any value...with the 4 or 5 games for a new game EB's exclusion list is HUGE...

i dont know why anybody trades their games back in....i was about to cry the other day at gaystop when i saw these two women (who obviously didn't know what they were doing) who were trading in a bag full (yes, a sports authority bag full) of video games and dvds....
i was watching as the gaystop worker pulled out billy madison...said, "cool...billy madison...great movie...mint condition...seventy five cents....south park season 3....nice....i might buy this myself...haha....two dollars...disgaea...mint....four dollars"...they did have some other poo poo titles that i saw like paper boy for n64...that he gave them twenty five cents for....and pac man for gamecube (i dont know what she got for that)....but still i wanted to pull the women aside and say look....ill give you $50 for the bag....it was way more then what they were getting from them....knowing gaystop will get way over a couple of hundred dollars by reselling all of the stuff....i know they were taking advantage of these women due to them knowing nothing about games...
the guy directly behind them heard the employees prices for a couple games and said he'd give them $XXXX for certain games and the employee said that he can get arrested for interfering with the transaction by giving competitve prices....thats messed up...
anyways...i would never trade in a game...

You can only trade in PS2,Gamecube or Xbox games
-no duplicate titles
-no demo disc
-you can trade in sports titles like nba live 2001 etc
you basically trade in 3 games and you get whatever they a worth plus a bonus 10 dollars on top of the regular trade in value for the 3 games, so each game gets like 3.33 added to it.

I think they give less cash than strore credit. If you get, say, $40 store credit, it will be even less as cash. I think 20% or less. Someone must know for sure.

I like the sound of this. Especially with the extra 10% off when u buy 2 used games. Hm... I might do this. $27.50 for R + C: GC (Paid $20), Hobbit ($10 at amazon), Madden 2002 ($8). Loos, of $10. Might be time to pick up Pandorra Tomm- its only $30 used for PC. Maybe F-Zero GX too. With the price drop, used copies might drop too. Sweet.

one time at eb a guy was trading in like 30 n64 games and a system and the guy was like
ok 50 cents, thats nice 1 dollar etc etc and I was behind him and he said he would sell me everything for 60, not that bad for 30 n64 games and a system and controllers and some racing wheel, I didn't do it though. I would have pulled those two ladies aside and made a deal with them and what are they going to do, kick me out of the store and if they did I would have told the two ladies to come outside to sell me the games. They probably got 20 dollars store credit, lol.
I remember one guy who traded in a gba for 20 bucks, I should have given him 20 cash for it. It was missing a battery cover but you can get those on ebay for like 4 bucks. He was trading it in because he bought a gba sp and didn't want to pay 100 for it I guess.

As for interfeering with trade-ins...
Yes, you CAN get arrested (however the chance is slim). Really, they could lose there Pawn Shop license if police came in and saw other people saying "I'll give you $5 instead...". Yeah, seems stupid, but its just like going into Wal-Mart and going "Target has these for less". They have every right to kick you out, and ive done it at my store.

If you trade games in for cash, 20 % is taken off the total of what you would get in store credit. Also, you are not eligible for promotions like the extra 10 for 3 games when asking for cash. Please know that cash trade-ins are only in your area type of deal.

I think it's illegal if you own a business/have a license to sell games AND you advertise in other stores. But if you are just an average Joe on the street offering to buy some games, EB doesn't have the right to do anything to you, I think.
I've gone into Suncoast and muttered under my breath, "These prices suck. I'd rather buy my DVDs at Best Buy." I don't think they could do anything there, because I was speaking the golden truth.
If anyone trades in anything, let us know what games. We want to know which games earn more store credit.

They can have you leave the store. But I don't think they could have you arrested unless you come back in a 2nd time (trespassing). But this probably varies state to state. And I'd imagine any store would at least say, 'Get out now or I'm calling the cops to have you arrested.' In reality I don't see a store actually calling the cops unless you obnoxiously continue to attempt to snipe deals after being told not to do that and then told to leave the store.
And depending on the particular employee working that day they may even say, 'dude if he'll give you more, go for it.'

You can not be arrested for offering to buy something that someone is seeking to sell to Gamestop, at least not in New York. You can be arrested for trespassing if they ask you to leave and you don't leave, but no officer would waste his/her time booking you. You'd likely be escorted out and that would be the end of it.
If this happens to you, ask the clerk under what law and/or statutory provision would you be arrested.
Of course, I confronted a police officer about specifying what authority allowed him to do something while I was in Australia, and after failing to come up with anything he just stated "I'm a police officer and I can do anything I want." Of course, that's not true, but why tempt the fates. ;) Sorry about the aside...

I was in EB last night, and I had one game to trade, but I wanted to maximize the deal, so I picked out 2 games that I actually wanted, and the 5 cheapest games they had (old sports titles. 3 were $2.95 each, 2 were $3.99 each), and bought them, getting 30% off. I made sure they all had manuals, but I didn't even make him pull the discs (except on the ones I was keeping). I took the five cheap games I bought, and the one game I brought in, and did 2 separate trades of 3 games each in order to get $20 extra in credit (the sports games trade in for $.25 each, btw).
The clerk was pretty cool about it, and he said that it actually helped him boost his numbers for both preowned sales and trade-ins. Probably not worth the time unless you have games you want to trade in that aren't multiples of three, but you can get an extra couple of dollars credit.
Here is the math invlovled if one does not start out with a game to trade, but instead buys 6 used games. Figure 3 @ 2.95, and 3 @ 3.99, the total would be $20.82. Subtract 30% and it is $14.57. Add tax (9.25% for me) and it comes to $15.92. Trade them in, and get $21.50 in credit. A 35% gain. It works even better if you have credit with which to buy them in the first place, so there is no real out of pocket expense.
$2.95 preowned PS2 games: NCAA College Football 2k3, NCAA Football 2002, Madden NFL 2002.
$3.99 preowned PS2 games: NCAA GameBreaker 2001, High Heat Baseball 2002, NBA Live 2001, NFL 2K3, ESPN NFL Prime Time 2002, NFL GameDay 2002, NFL 2K2.
$3.99 preowned Xbox games: NFL Fever 2002, Sega Sports NFL 2K2.
Don't bother with Cube, they are all too expensive, just stick with PS2 and Xbox.
Only do this if you have a lot more time than money (although going in with a list of the cheap games should help cut down on the time it takes). Make sure that all the games have manuals and case, or they can deny the trade, also no more than 1 of each title per trade, but if they have multiples of the $2.95 games, one can spread them out over multiple trades, potentially bumping the gain up to 58% or more, depending on tax rate.

When I was at EB. we used to keep $1.99 games under the counter so when they had the promotions of trade in three or buy three or more to get a higher percentage off, we would throw them in. I could sell a GMR subscription and still save them more money by adding a ton of crap. It was all math. Most people didn't even take the games we threw in, so we would just trade them back in for like $0.50 each. Then we would use them again. After a few weeks of that I would have a card with a lot of credit. It wasn't illegal and not against the rules of the promotions, maybe a morale issue but the games were thrown away. Just like finding them in the garbage on the street. You couple that with my discount, GMR discount, and the promotions, you wouldn't believe the deals we used to get. Considering that I caught the manager stealing and had proof and EB did nothing about it, I wasn't too worried about my little numbers manipulation.
