My family is behind in the times, and we recently have decided to buy a digital camera. We are looking at the:

Fujifilm FinePix A345 Digital Camera

Just so you know.

In any case, it says it uses USB 2.0. I believe my computer has USB 1.1. (Yeah, it's old)

Will this USB 2.0 thing work in my computer and get the pictures on there, or am I SOL?

It'll work but expect your tranfer rate to be SLOW. Take Ikohn's suggestion and get the USB 2.0 card. It will make your life a whole lot easier (and faster).

To give you a rough example of how fast the transfer difference is, if you have a picture that is 10MB in size  in 1.1 it would take you something around 2-3 minutes. In USB 2.0, it would take you less than 10 seconds. This might not seem like a big difference but it adds up when you take, oh, let's say 40 shots of 10MB each (which is improbable most of the time but it could happen) which adds up to about 400MB. In 1.1 it would be something on the order of 20-30 minutes while in 2.0 it would be around 1 minute.

A 10 mb picture?

...Since when do you have a 10 mb picture?

Are digi cam pictures really that freaking big?

The newer ones can shoot up to 12 I believe but they're usually only used by pro photographers. They'll be using the SLR lenses. I wouldn't worry about it. Even if you take a 2MB shot, if you take 100 shots, that's 200MB right there and it'll take at least a 3-4 minutes on 1.1 compared to the less than 1 minute it would take on a USB 2.0

Okay, thank you for your help. The only pictures being uploaded will be what I take, which won't be much. My parents are getting one of those photo docker thingys to print their shots.

Do new computers come with 2.0, though? I'm probably getting a new one soon...

Thank you again.

Yeah, USB 2.0 is pretty much standard in all new computers.

Yeah, most new computers (if not all) have 2.0 by now.
