View Full Version : How long does it usually take to burn an 8x DVD on a 16x burner drive with Nero?
That's basically my question because I just installed my new external burner and it registers and everything, but the actual burning is taking forever. it's still just in the lead in phase at 1% after 45 minutes. If you guys need anymore info, don't be shy to ask as I'm in dire need of help. I've gone through everything and can't figure it out as to why it is taking so long and just at 1%. Thanks in advance to the great CAG community.
It takes me about 12 minutes to burn a DVD that is the longest time it takes

See if it says that it's encoding. If it says it's encoding, it'll take about six hours.

Nope, it doesn't say that it is encoding. I'm basically doing a bunch of data discs to backup my computer. I've made sure that the settings are at DMA if available and the dvd will start find and seem to burn fine, but then it will take forever and still not end. And Nero will freeze. No matter how much I'm trying to burn it does this. It will burn CDs fine though.

Generally it's best to not write over 4x if you go faster then that you have a high chance of currupted data.

6 hours to encode!?!?! You must be kidding since it only takes me 30 minutes to encode and write a full length DVD.

Well burning takes about all you computer memory to do it. If you are running any programs along with it it might freeze up or get stuck. If thats not the problem re-install nero and try it again.
