DVD+, DVD-, JIFF, JPEG, DivX, etc, etc ... which formats should I look for in a DVD player? I'm looking for one around 60, 70 dollars.

i can also vouch for this. got it for 30 after signing up for the amazon credit card. it also plays PAL and NTSC. also it's very easy to get it to play all regions...if that's your bag (as it is mine)

Shhh... bypassing region codes is illegal in some parts of the world (like, you know, the united states).

So when it says that its a divx player, what all does that mean. Can you burn .avi files (ones i have usually say divx in the corner) to a dvd and it will read them?

If its 700MB, you can even burn divx movies to a CD, and the player will read it and play the movie. It even plays Xvid.

I would also highly recommend that philips model(I have it's predecessor, the 726), although I've read playback can be finnicky depending on how your divx/xvid file was encoded. luckily it has a firmware update option, which might help alleviate that.

well its all ways good to buy in case you want to play avi files on it and watch em without having to convert em to dvd and crap.
