i have to agree with GuilewasNK about that SNK has kept it alive... though 3d fighters have kept the genre alive also, but only a small part of keeping the 2d games alive. Too many companys are going into the 3d realm of gaming IMO. Gamer's are already asking for more 2d games, and all most devs do is pump out 3d stuff... oh well. :(

It's still hard to believe that Capcom hasn't released any of the Alpha series as a collection for play over Live.

Capcom needs to have *some* games stashed away for a rainy day, or if a big name game flops hard and they need some quick cash.

Capcom is whoring out Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the 5th time I think, on PSP, so there is something to look forward to. Luckily this version is SFA 3 Upper or whatever it was called, the one on GBA that features Eagle, Maki, and Yun, and it will run on a portable that can handle it.

Just in case anyone forgot, Tekken 5 is $27.77 this week at target. This is good news for the guy in this thread who felt bad because Tekken 5 would take forever to go on sale :D.

I have never been a huge Tekken fan but I am seriously thinking of jumping on this one. I did always enjoy playing through and unlocking people in 3 and 4 and I have heard really good things about the new one. This sale may be a good enough motivation for me.

I'm surprised I haven't heard anything on Rumble Fish coming to the states. I played Rumble Fish 2 in the arcades and it just came out for PS2 in Japan a couple months ago. Alot of intresting characters, cool looking moves, and in plays great. I'd recomend it to any 2D fighter fan. Sometimes it looks alittle wierd cause it's not exactly 2D, but then again it's not 3D, you just have to see video of it to understand.

I love Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, but the combos were limited with strings already set out for each character, this could be good or bad depending on how you look at it. However SNK still hasn't animated Terry's Triple Power Geyser better than in Real Bout Special. The overall animation quality isn't any better than Alpha 3, but it's no worse. I think SNK were the first to include DMs or Super Combos (whatever you call them.) The original Fatal Fury's had gameplay problems, but the moves and characters I think were more unique than Capcom's efforts, except Axel Hawk he sucked.

I doubt rumble fish will be heading over here, due to what seems to be lack of popularity in japan... though I may be wrong (going out on a whim). If it came to the states, I would definitly pick it up, as I really like it when new fighting series are created/released. I've pretty much exausted my resources of good fighters on consoles, as well as MAME/NEORAGEX, and need to get some new flavor of fighting.

I was trying out paul although zaibatsu says his D+4,2,1+2 is as hard as tekken 4 now it steels feels like regular TEkken 5 to me. Tried out Feng also his b+1 is not as good anymore, d/b+3 doesn't mop them to the floor on CH.

I was at Otakon (an anime convention in Baltimore in case you didn't know), and I was wondering around the Dealer's Room when I came to a dealer who had a sign for Melty Blood on display at his booth. Needless to say I bolted for the booth (I've wanted Melty Blood for the last year and a half), and asked him if he had any copies left. He said they may have one left, but he wasn't sure, but the other guy that worked the booth did, but he was in the can. I waited around for 15 minutes, and when the guy came back, he told me that they had sold the last copy of the game not 20 minutes ago :cry:

That was a complete blower, but they told me that they would reserve me a copy, and I could pick it up at the next convention they're selling stuff at, so iy wasn't a complete loss.

With Fei in 5.1 can you still ss+4 and then df+1 to mop them up. Someone posted earlier that the df+1 doesn't have that effect anymore. I can pull off some nasty combos from that set-up, it would suck if they took it out.

from what I am guessing about 5.2: since the PS3 Tekken trailer has been shown and around for a while now, people beleive it to be Tekken 6. IMO I think it is not 6 at all. It's actually the home port of 5.2 (or 5.3... whichever becomes the later release). The Tekken dev team would need a load of time just to do a Tekken 6... whereas Tekken 5.2 is more feasable on the PS3 since they already have the foundation of 5 to work from. Just a hunch...

also, it may happen since the PS3 is pretty damn powerful, but Tag may make a return...

i just looked at the gamepro page scan from the above link and didnt realize when I picked up my copy of nintendogs I totally missed the SF trading card game? anyone know if the game mechanics are any good? so far the only card games I ever enjoyed playing were decipher card games... everything else blows in comparison usually.

Rolento - I found SF the Movie in Japan for $5 so I couldn't pass it up. (They call it SF Real Battle on Film.) It's like SF meets Mortal Kombat, but in a bad way. Still I enjoy playing it just becasue it's so cheesy, Velveta even.

A funny thing I noticed about the movie is it's (of course) made by American's so the character M. Bison was "our" M. Bison, not the Mike Bison from Japan. So if you watch the movie Shadowlaw wanted to create "Bisonopolis" which was in big letters in the background. Now imagine being Japanese and watching the film, even if they change the characters names back to what they're supposed to be, "Bisonopolis" is still there. They're probably thinking, "Why do they want to name the city after the stupid boxer guy?" Just something I wanted to throw out there.

The best Mortal Kombat is Mortal Kombat 2. MK3 sucked due to the crappy linear combo system and characters like Kabal being abused because of their combo's caused the most damage. MK3 tried to be more complicated than the previous versions, but there's nothing wrong with basic, fell good gamplay. Just because you can do more moves doesn't make it better. MK2 didn't require the player to remember boring, overused strings of combos. It was just wits vs. wits, nothing to remember but "reading" your opponent. No Mortal Kombat has been better than MK2 yet, in my opinion.

I have to agree with rodimus about MK2... even though it was fairly basic in terms of what characters were able to do, due to this all matches were usually even matched. MK3 just added so much unnecissary stuff (run button? huh? Pre determined combos? er? annimalitys?)... MK2, IMO, was the pinnacle for the 2D versions of the series. It's the only MK I have on MAME that I like to turn on every once and a while just to let me remeniss of the old arcade days. I totally forgot how to do one thing though?... what's command to make Reptile invisible?

For Reptile to turn invisible I thought it was hold block and press up 3 times. Something like that. The lowest point in the MK series was when Scorpion's did his Animality and turned into a penguin, layed an egg, and it explodes. What was Midway thinking? Scorpion's a bad ass, he doesn't turn into Penguins and lay eggs!

I think people might be thinking more about the AI than anything else. The AI in MK3/UMK3 was some of the worst to ever be in a fighting game, ever. However, if you're playing with a human opponent, the combo system can me pretty cool.

actually, I was pretty lucky. I only had a few short bursts of power outages for a split second... but nothing horrible. Sux to hear your power died out on you. In a few days all should be better though.

Haven't you heard of the new modes in SC3? There's Character Creation, Tale of Souls, Chronicles of the Sword, Coin Collector, Dancing Statue, Soul Squash, and Wisp Shoot. Come on!

And IMO, there's no such thing as a bad strategy in a fighter if it wins the match. Unless it's something like Guille's handcuffs.

aw... ibuki and makoto? theyre pretty tough characters to use. ibuki being weak as hell and makoto having to rushdown 100% of the time to be effective.

i dont play makoto much and i dont play ibuki at all.

i would say ibuki is low tier, but makoto is middle or even middle high tier. top tiers would be ken,chun, and yun. i like to play ken,Q, and alex.

edit: yeah a good dudley will mix you up with high and lows all day. theyre tough to beat if they know what they doing.

To be an expert Ibuki player, you need to rushdown your opponent like crazy. Just learn how to chain most of her combos together, and you can take on just about anyone. I should know, a friend of mine has handed me my ass plenty of times with his Ibuki.

I don't know much about Makoto, so I can't provide much advice to yu there.

A Q is a fuckin' moster in the right hands. I played against someone's Q last week, and he mostly turtled and kara threw the shit outta me. Breaking his defence was really hard, especially after he did Q's taount, which raises his defense by a huge margin, but you all already know that =P

The onyl character I can use effectively is Dudley, so if you need any tips on how to use him, let me know. I'm an intermediate level Dudley player.

is SFIII: 3rd strike, i usually play as hugo, remy, or makoto. i've tried playing with Q a few times, but he doesn't hold my interest much. maybe I should give him another chance.

hugo really sucks though. his large size realy makes it difficult to jump over projectiles. and his HK is pretty much worthless to me. but he's got a 360 throw, and that's why i use him.

makoto i haven't tinkered around with much but i love her rushing punch. i usually alternate that with a few low attacks and mix in the command throw and i'm set... damn i need some real strategy with this game. :(
