Capcom's doing nothing for thier 2D fighting fans, and done nothing for awhile, (I don't count Capcom Fighting Evo, that was rehashed crap.) they're focusing all their attention on platformers, while SNK is really only working on 2D fighters. I do wish SNK would go to hi-res and sometime soon. Honestly the low-res really doesn't bother me to much but it bothers everyone else. I don't know how many times I have to hear "This looks like Super Nintendo." Anyways two game I can honestly say are good that we can see shortly are Neo Geo BC and Samurai Showdown Special, and they both played great. We can't keep playing the same old fighters forever, so never say never.

Does anyone know FOR A FACT why Capcom pulled away from the fighting game market? I assumed it's because they don't sell as well as their other big titles like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.

Thanks for that info. I'm not sure how long collections can keep being released. They've made several SFII collections already and with this recent collection that would seem like the end for me, besides a Street Fighter Alpha collection that is.

CFJ was made by Japan, was supposed to be their last big 2D fighter to leave the market with. That's why a number of fans were so pissed off - Capcom hardly put any effort into their "last great 2d fighter for the fans", with a lackluster, small roster.

All I know is that Capcom USA owns the rights to Street Fighter, but not anything else. Japan still owns the rights to Final Fight I believe, since that new game Final Fight: Streetwise is being developed by CoJ (I think).

You guys are using Kalleria or something like that? It's a program where you can play you're emulators online right? As of now I have a very slow 5 year old iBook, but possibly in a week me and my wife will be purchaseing another, more faster, Mac. Theirs no way to play that using a Mac right? I got roms and stuff on a hard drive ready and waiting. Plus I'll be getting an X-Box in a couple months along with a ton of 2D fighters. So maybe very soon your shoto's could face off against my grapplers. But I gotta warn you, my Zangeif and Adon wreck the uppercut bros.

Well I think this Thursday I might get the computer. I'll look into then. I won't be getting X-Box until my brother gets an X-Box 360. He was gonna give me his old system, but I think I can push him to give it to me sooner.

As with grapplers I don't mind taking a punch or two if I can get off a throw. Infact this brings up a good discussion, what "kind" of fighters do you like to use? Speed, Grapplers, Basic (shoto's I guess), Poke, Reach..... I'm sure there's more. Plus name a couple of your favorites that you excel with.

I usually gravitate torwards grapplers or powerhouses like Zangeif, Hugo, Clark, and Wolf. But of course that's not all I use. But mainly I love picking characters that most people don't use. In fact these are my top 5 favorite characters:

Billy Kane - (KOF + Fatal Fury series) He pokes, but over the years I've learned to use him so well I become very annoying with him. Probably my most well know character to use among my circuit of friends. And I ain't letting out any hints on my technique with him, just in case I have to fight any of you one day.

Geese Howard - (KOF + Fatal Fury series) He's a very unique character that is hard to use. The motion and button combinations for his DMs are very unusual and hard to pull off in the heat of the battle. He's got a nasty projectile that snuffs out all others, plus he's the king of counters. He's to be used mainly as a defensive character obviously.

Zangeif - (Street Fighter) My bread and butter of Capcom. Thank God they put him or a character that play exactlly like him in every game they make. FINAL ATOMIC BUSTER!!!

Paul - (Tekken) I know, he's a very commanly used character in the Tekken series, but He's been my favorite since Tekken 1, and I know his moves inside and out. Too bad everyone knows how he plays. I get low parrys all the time, plus I can never pull off his 10-hitter without it being counterd.

Axl Low - (Guilty Gear) The main reason I like him is becasue he's an almost exact Billy Kane clone. Both of their supers are done the same way qcf, hcb + P. Not only that it's the same move, a big ring of fire then he shoots something out at you. They're both British rock punks. The both have charging move were the throw their wepons out, which can be followed up with an additional attack. Both have a counter, Axl's is better though. They both have a move where they jump really high in the air and come down hard on the enemy. The both wear bandanas with denim. If you have a game with both of them, I suggest you compare to see how much alike they are.

We played MvC 98% lag free, and then MSHvSF which was about 90% lag free (on my end anyway).

Cool a Fighter thread. I just recently discovered Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Wow, what a great game. I can't believe I've waited so long to finally play this game. Until now I've been solely playing Guilty Gear XX and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Now I'm complete addicted to SF III, there's so much to learn and the gameplay is very technical. I mainly got SF:AC for the comple SF II collection. I've barely touched SF II and mainly play SF III, what a great surprise for me.

MSH vs SF was okay but it had one annoy feature that I'm sure VGM loves, too many Ryu clones. Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Dan and Sakura, wow what a variaty characters. Seems like a waste to me. But Capcom made up for it in MvC when Ryu used a super to change between Ken and Akuma's style. What a great idea, they finally made Ryu fun to use. Although I would've liked to see Sagat in one of the MvC games.

jeeze, I'm gone for a day and a new thread is already around... man am I slow.

I would love to play friggin Mame against some people (though, I can promise I prob won't impress anyone with my 2d fighting skills). Once they get a decent running version of Tekken 3 or another 3d fighter, I can do myself some justice. I could play, but my house is dial-up only. The only times I'll be able to get some time is prob on sunday monday or tuesday, since I am at my sisters house and leach of their neighbors wireless service ;)

hmm... type of fighters I play... mainly a mix of Power and either Poking or Speed:

Tekken: Bryan (avatar), Paul (... yet I can understand how he is so easy to predict Rodimus), Kazuya, Devil Jin, and Heihachi: Bryan is played by alot of people, but I think is one of the most balanced power fighters in the series, not to mention he has some nice looking juggles ;)

SFA: Rolento (duh!), Cody, Dan, Sodom: I mainly get a kick out of rolento's super cheap QCF+P, QCF+P, QCF+P can be against anyone who is blocking. Cody, I know is not that great, but I just like the awkward style he plays. Dan... well, he's the first guy I loved playing in Alpha. Sodom I suck at and need to work on, but he plays like a weird grappler.

SFIII: Nobody (ken or makoto, but I don't want to admit it): I just suck at this game. Nuff said.

Vs Series: Venom (a childhood dream come true for me), Captian Commando, Jin... and that's it!: Venom plays exactly the way I would want him to. Venom to be in a 2d fighter was a childhood dream of mine ever since Street Fighter 2 came out in the arcades, and this was the greatest gift to me capcom has ever made (other than Killer 7). Captian Commando is awsome partially due to the fact that his attacks do decent damage, but also take up the entire screens horizontal space or verticle, thus, preventing super jump type of players to jump like mad animals. Jin is the few charge type characters that plays pretty awsome, plus his damage is great.

Soul Calibur: Nightmare/Sigfreid and Asteroth/Rock, and probably soon to be Zasalamel: Nightmare is my version of Bryan for the soul calibur universe, good speed and power. Asteroth is a great Mind Game/Power character. Zasalamel, I heve yet to play, but watching most of the way he plays I like him already... kinda plays like a Kazuya for the SC universe.

Rival Schools: Shoma, Hideo, and Edge: I have been a huge Hideo fan since Rival Schools launch...

KOF:Yamazaki, Ralf, Heidren, and Maxima: Yamazaki... oh man... his personality alone makes the game great. In fact I programmed a pretty sad brawler type game using him as the main character

Darkstalkers:Demitri, J. Talbain, Huitzel: dont know what to say here...

VF: Jacky, Sarah

DOA: Hitomi

I believe Sodom is Katana with a different name (and different weapons).

There is a guy at the end of level 2 in Final Fight 1 that you fight in a wrestling ring... uses a large katana, hence the name Katana. Looks identical to Sodom, so I'm thinking Capcom just changed the name, gave him more unique weapons, and went with it.

Hugo is the son of Andore from Final Fight 1, IIRC. I know he has ties to him somehow.

Rolento is at the end of stage 6 I believe in Final Fight, in the industry level. He's a pain in the ass to fight... Rolento's stage was the one cut out of the SNES version, as well.

Maki is in CvS 2, and she was a playable character in Final Fight 2, I believe (though it could be 3).

Everyone knows where Cody and Guy are from.

That's about all the Final Fight characters that have shown up in fighting games.

Bonus fact! The new Final Fight: Streetwise stars Cody's brother Kyle.

also, since we are kinda talking about beat em ups, anyone who likes the tekken series should pick up Urban Reign for PS2 when it comes out. It's developed by the same exact team that made Tekken 5, and also has Paul and Law as playable characters.

Okay guys, before you get too excited over Street Fighter 4 the list Kain Vincent gave you, 80% of it was accurate for a JAMMA arcade show in Japan that's in September. Hopefully all of it's true but some are not confirmed yet.

Rolento - The only reason I say Paul is easy to predict is because he's been around since Tekken 1. When I was in Tokyo I played some Tekken 5 in the best arcades in the world, and whenever I used Paul they always low parryed me, but my Fang Wei seemed completly new to them. I was catching them off gaurd. It's just that Paul's been around for awhile and it's easy to remember what his move are like. That's why I always train extremly hard with a new character in every version.

Maki was in Final Fight 2, Sodom was in Final Fight 1, and Rolento was in Final Fight 1 however the SNES version cut him and his stage from the Arcade version, but later added it in Final Fight GUY for the SNES wich was a re-release of Final Fight with more stuff (including Guy which wasn't in the original SNES release)

PS. The girl that comes out with Hugo in SFIII is alegedly a hermaphrodite. Just what I heard from the grape vine.

@Rodimus: yeah, makes sense that people know him easily now. I kinda do the same with learning new characters, except I try to learn old character's new moves and try to figure out new ways to play them so that people are caught off gaurd more. Some of the best fights are always the games focused on primarily Mind Games.

Another note about Hugo: he is an enemy in FF (don't know which one). He's a tall guy who wear orange or read I think. He has the same curly hair, but is not as huge as his SFIII version of himself.

yeah Tekken 5 is easily one of the best looking games out right now. except in the PS2 version, Asukas face looks a little odd.

I have to agree with you apossum. Tekken 5 is the only fighting game I have ever played where the music actually pumps me up for the fight. Overall, the music gives Tekken 5 more than it needs, which is great! I loved the music so much I even downloaded the whole soundtrack. It seems ever since Namco got a hit with Katamari Damacy's music, they've been making alot better game music for each of their in-house games.

All of those complaints are the reasons why he's so awesome.

He can actually be used effectively if played right. I used him (and Genjuro) more than anyone during my brief stint with SvC Chaos on Xbox Live.

yup certain characters had too many advantage (Nina,Bryan,Steve) while others were too weak in the game so namco made different versions changing characters attributes for ex:


Bryan Fury
- b+1 does not launch on normal hit.
+ CH WS+3 stun can not be escaped.
+/- 1+3+4 taunt and f,b+2 punch remain the same.
- f,f+2 has more delay.
- 1,2,4 has more delay.
- <wall> 1,2,1, d/f+3 catch no longer works.

- d/f+2 does not launch.

I've been tinkering around with Tekken 5, but ever since all my data got erased I lost motivation to train. Have you unocked all the costume and stuff? I remember you saying that you leveled up everyone to Tekken Lords which is impressive.

On the weekends I bring my PS2 to work and on our off time we play some Tekken 5. They're all very bad, so to make it even they put their handicap up to 150% and I drop mine to 50%. That might help give you more of a challange with your friend Rolento.

i personally hate using a game cheating device at all, but in this case it's almost pointless to try to get everyone's items. I got every friggin character to tekken lord, and I still didnt have enough cash for a little less than half the items for the game. most of the prices in that game are a little absurd for anyone who wants to unlock everything.

If only they made the controls tighter and the action/turnaround quicker, Isuka could've been a really fun party game. I hate how the characters chug along and take 3 seconds to turn, it kills the whole game. and boost mode is a total throw away.

Dan is cool, but it seems SNK makes him more fun to use than Capcom can. In both SVC Chaos and Mark of the Millennium he's funny, he makes me laugh alot. HA HA. Also it seems fitting the VGM likes him. A Capcom fighter used to poke fun at SNK, plus he annoys the piss out of everyone.
