It seems like we are getting some bad sectors on the server's hard drive and will have to take the server down to perform some maintenance.
I'll keep you informed.

How long...?Every night, usually for a few hours..Wise ass. That's just the server being its normal shitty self. That will end soon.

The host will have to take the server offline to perform drive diagnostics and repairs. Hopefully they do it in the middle of the night tonight.

I hope things work out.

So, when you told the hosting provider that you were putting CAG up there, did they give you a cheap ass server to go with it? :D "Only used on the weekends, I'll give you a great price on it." ;)

Seems like the hard drive is a POS, if it's getting bad sectors. :|

Hopefully, we can migrate sometime in the future to two servers and do some load balancing, so that way, one server being a POS won't take down CAG. Plus, it'll help spread out some of the load.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I ordered the new server.
I think this is doing to be the final config...

Dual 244 Opteron processors
4GB RAM
4x36GB SCSI Hard Drives in RAID 10 array

Do we have an ETA on that hot sauce?

Hopefully everything switched over to the new diggs before my birthday (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2005-9-9&c=1).

Holy crap! Your B-day is 9/9? So as a birthday present you got the Dreamcast launch back in 99? Slick. :applause:

Time to load up on emergency supplies of hookers and hard liquor. May god help us all through our soon to be time of crisis.

Well the server should now be better than ever. There was a php caching and accelerator system that was in beta and produced errors. It's actually been on the server for months but didn't notice it was not upgraded to final release. Now the server should be godlike in the performance end and the spikes and lag should stop now.

You, sir, are Mr. Wizard!

So does this mean there's no need for the new server or are we going to get it anyway?

Hell yeah that'll do the job. 4GB RAM, nice job. :applause:

Especially with RAID 10, that'll keep us going along without any single drive failures.

Let's hope so. If it does, I'll be very happy. :applause:

I still think that the new server will be a very good idea, especially with RAID 10 behind the scenes, 4GB of RAM and dual Opteron 244's, since they tend to spank the Xeons badly in just about every test I've seen.

Oh, we certainly do need it. We need a fast running server to keep all your fine wisdom flowing quickly. ;)
