I have the 14 day free trial and there are a few limits (*Guest Pass Restrictions: Maximum level = 20. Maximum gold = 10. Chat limited to guild and party channels and sending "tells" and "says." No access to the auction house or player trading allowed. In-game email limited to sending and receiving mail from Game Masters.)
Are the first levels fun to play so I can get a true feel for the game, or does it drag on and only get interesting after level 20?

the games fun, but you'll get sucked in and all you'll ever care about is playing WoW. i'd say do it if you're planning to quit right after the 14 days.

I agree with 2poor. This game is crack, if your going to start playing the trial, be strong and don't get sucked in. But if you intend to buy it afterwards, say goodbye to your life.
I started on the trail one rainy day now I own the game and level 21 and its the only game I would play

it's just something about mmos that people get adicted to. i think it's the leveling and item collecting.

there's just so much to do in it... lol, my brother likes to call it 'world of warcrack'. so if you don't want/don't have a life, go for it man. ;p

There comes a point when you're level 60, and run the same instances 3 times a day to get geared up to run more instance 3 times a week where it just slows down and becomes one big grind. The game is fun for those first 100 or so hours, though :D
Blizzard is taking strides to fix this, but it's taking awhile. The addition of the Battleground is nice until you realize Alterac Valley is a waste of time because you can get three times the honor in half the time just playing Warsong Gulch.
The next patch should respark the interest I once had since it offers a very unique raid instance as well as a new battleground.
But wow that trial limits everything that actually makes the game interactive =/

if you've played the game up to level 60 and past some, you'll understand what he's talking about; for those reasons i had to quit. :\
